Mine only wear collars when I am travelling, never at home outside or indoors. I did have a collar on Kris when she was younger until she reached through the page wire fence to get some horse manure and got caught. Luckily I was right there and managed to take her collar off.

I should add, both of my guys are microchipped. Ivy sometimes escapes (she knows how to open the gates if they arent fully and totally shut) but luckily, she just wanders around our side yard and maybe the neighbors (plus I always check on her frequently if I am not out there with her).

The Curly Tails wear their collars when we attend classes, events, travel, train, or go hiking.

They never wear them when home and on their evening walk before bed they wear harnesses.

Zander has worn his choke 24/7 since he came home 7 years ago. His tags are on it, he is microchipped.

More often than not he also has a bright neon or black nylon on too. When everyone's first reaction to your dog is "OMG A WOLF" you have to cover your bases. Especially when said dog is a runner and will take you completely off guard just when you start getting comfortable.

I used to leave collars on all my dogs 24/7, but then I got Squash. Squash and Maisy like to grab each other's necks when they play, so now they never wear them in the house or yard. Only when we leave the property.

At this point, with the dogs I have, I'm far less comfortable with the risks and consequences of someone snagging a tooth on a collar than of someone getting out into the world without a collar on. In the past, and possibly someday again in the future, it's been the other way around. But for now, we have a 6' privacy fence and I keep the gates padlocked when the dogs are in the yard. We also have front AND back enclosed porches so there is no door in the house that leads directly outdoors. All the dogs are microchipped. So that's that.

The only time my dogs have collars is if we are leaving the house. The rest of the time they go nekkid. When I was a kid we had one of our family dogs jaw get wrapped up and caught in our other dogs collars, it was horrifying and yeah.

Quinn wears a kangaroo tag collar all of the time. I try to remember to take it off right before bed, but I often forget.

Really, the only time she wears a real collar is on hikes or to her herding lessons. Doesn't stop me from hoarding collars though LOL. I'll pack a slip lead in the car for emergencies or if I decide to take her out of the car for whatever reason.

Mine do (unless I've forgotten to put one back on). Years ago a relative had a house fire and, when the emergency workers broke down the door (no one was home) the dogs shot out. Their tags got them home safely.

Mine are naked,on the property but anywhere else, they were a collar or more exactly,a sliplead.
For me,collar are more decorative than anything else.

When I worked for a vet, we had clients who had 2 dogs, a Dogo and a Catahoula. The Dogo got her jaw caught on the Catahoula's collar while they were playing. Even with the owners right there, they were unable to free the dog in time to prevent strangulation. They rushed the dog in to us, but it was too late. So very, very sad. :(

This is the biggest reason that my dogs don't wear collars.

Gambit always wears his. I want people to know that he is an owned pet and not a wild animal, because, when around strangers, he goes coyote on them and I don't want him shot.

Gimmick weas his because....well they're pretty and I want to admire them. Yes, I really am that shallow

Copper is the only one of our dog that wears a collar with tags. Bloo has one on, but no tags, it's just in case we need to grab her. Em and Shadow never wear one.

The only time Gracie's collar is off is bath time. She's not microchipped (currently weighing that decision) If she got loose..... that might be the only way to get her home.

Violet, yes. She door dashes on occasion and needs ID at all times. Chloe, no. She hates them, and they rub her fur off, and she may walk out the front door occasionally, but she doesn't go anywhere. And she always follows us back inside. I would like for her to have one because anything can happen but she constantly rubs her neck on the carpet and shakes her head if she has one on. I'm hoping to microchip both of them asap.

No, the only one who wears a collar all the time she is outside is Josefina because she (don't laugh ... LOL) wears a little cow bell on her collar so I can know where she is in the yard without always having to be there hovering over them like a hawk (who likes that ??? :/ ). the collar has a brass plate with her name & my phone number on it.

I should mention all three of them are chipped so there's that. It also helps that both of our porches are closed in so they'd have to go through a minimum of two doors to actually get outside.

Natasha wears her collar only during the day, we put it on her in the morning and when we go to sleep we take it off.

When she's in the park, I usually have her in a... ok, I don't remember the name. A typical nylon collar with a thing that you push to open it. This way, if something bad was to happen, we could easily open the collar.
