I think I'm going to cry. I was taking my camera out of the bag and my lens fell out and a piece came off. I tried to put it back on and tried the lens to see if it still worked but the pictures came out white and then I couldn't get the lens off. After tinkering with it for a minute, I got the pictures to come out clear but it was still very difficult to take off. There's a clicking noise that sounds painful and definitely wasn't there before. Something is definitely wrong.

The lens was a gift a couple years back and the box says it has a limited warranty but I was never given a proof of purchase and when I attempt to register for the warranty the page says it cannot be found. I'm afraid the lens is a goner.

It is my only lens besides the one that came with the camera and it took such better pictures. I'm not sure what to do at this point. :( Is there somewhere to send it for repairs? Well, I guess I could contact the company (Tamron) but would it be cheaper to buy a new one? Never thought about that until I started writing this post.

As much as I try to learn, nothing really sticks with me. I still don't know a whole lot about cameras and photography. But incase I can't get this lens fixed, what are your favorite, affordable lenses? I have a Canon Rebel T3. 99% of my photos are action shots of the dogs and maybe a portrait here and there.

Which Tamron lens is it? I have the 70-300 and I personally would not pay to get mine fixed as mine was only a $200 lens and money spent fixing it would be better spent on a higher quality lens.

Mine is the same. If you wouldn't have it fixed, what would you suggest for me as a complete beginner as a replacement?

I would just suggest buying a new unused one of the same if you are in a budget crunch. It's a decent lens but after 4 years of use even mine is having problems (and I never dropped it) My aperture iris doesn't always work correctly which isn't a major problem since I usually leave it wide open all the time. But if I ever try and do Shutter Priority my lens will "error" on me a lot as it tries to change the aperture and I will have to shut the camera off take the lens off and snap it back on.

However if money isn't a huge issue, my plan is to buy the Canon 70-300 as a replacement when I can afford it, about $450-$500

Keep in mind you can't buy the old $200 Tamron 70-300 in stores anymore (only online), it's been replaced with the updated 70-300 which is about $400-$450.

Tamron does have a good 6 (8?) year guarantee but like yourself I no longer have my receipt.

Good deal. Yep, that's the exact lens I have.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I really want to upgrade to a better lens. But with me not knowing enough about lenses and cameras I don't want to do anything right away. I really need to research things a lot. I feel really dumb because I want to learn and know but as soon as I read something, I forget it. I don't want to get something (like the camera I already have) and not be able to use it to its full potential.

That sucks :/

But, if you're going to upgrade, and want something.. a lot better (IMO of course), get the Canon 70-200mm f/4 lens. They sell for around $500 used. It's what I have and do the vast majority of my pictures with. Love it. I want to sell mine and get the 2.8 version but mine is so sharp and I'm afraid the 2.8 won't be, so I've stuck with it.

Two of the biggest pros to doing an upgrade rather than a same replacement. Sharper images at max zoom and faster auto focus, no matter which upgrade it's going to be better than what you've (and I've) got. But every upgrade is going to be more than double the price of the cost of a same replacement. So weigh your options carefully.

Either way as I said before I would not repair the lens you currently have, I would only buy brand new same replacement or an upgrade.

I've saved up some money and I'm looking into lenses now. It was suggested to me before to rent a lens to try it out before ever buying one so I thought about going that route. Where do people rent lenses?
