Hows Talon doing today?

Have you gotten the results back from the vet yet?

Sending more vibes!

Update:

Ok, so Talon's other test (it was a Urinalysis apparently) came back normal from what they said. Pretty much the vet said finish the prednisone and come back if anything happens or if he acts funny. T_T Helpful. They didn't give us an explanation on why they thought AIHA or why they still wrote "AIHA???" on the end of his paperwork AFTER the urinalysis. They aren't really my normal vet, but my normal vet was 40mins away and I was freaking out and they are the closest I have been to before soo...yeah. Back to my normal vet with us.

Talon is doing better. He is still acting ...weird, for lack of a better word. I don't know if it's from the inflamatin still going down or what, but he keeps closing his eyes or blinking them repeatedly. He can't seem to keep them open normally for more than a minute unless he concentrates really hard.

Otherwise he picked up a ball and tried to get me to throw it for him today, which is a good sign. He's still exhausted and sleeping more of the day, but he's getting better. :)

So basically, he's getting better, but no diagnosis of what happened. I'm assuming the eyes were a bad allergic reaction, but that leaves the anemia, the brown/grey tongue, and blood in his urine unanswered. So at this point we just don't know. I'm keeping a really close eye on him for any changes and I'm talking through email to the person Stardogs recommended about the possibility of AIHA or not. She has been super helpful. :) We will likely go back to our normal vet to let her go over Talon and the information to see what she says, as I respect her opinion a bit more.

If you read all of that you deserve two cookies ^_^

Glad he's feeling a bit better, poor boy! Hope you can get a conclusion to all this, sounds terrifying.

I'm glad he's improving, but HOLY CRAP that's super frustrating! I'd defintely see what your normal vet says. Anemia is NOT normal, so even if it's not IMHA (I'm also curious as to why they call it AIHA?) it's from something and that should be tracked down.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier, but the anemia could definitely be why he's so tired.

I'd also ask for a copy of his bloodwork. I'd want to know EXACTLY how low his red blood cell/packed cell/etc are.

Probably not, but any chance he got into rodent poison or warfarin or anything similar in the last couple weeks?

AIHA is a different name for it. Some people use that, some people use IMHA.

I'd definitely go see your vet ASAP.

It really is frustrating. I just want to know what caused it so I know if I need to do something else. I'm afraid it's going to be something and if I don't do anything he'll have another episode. >_< I made an appointment with my normal vet for tomorrow morning, so we will see what she says.

I got a copy of the test results and paperwork that they had so I do have the exact numbers, which are confusing me even more honestly. The PCV was 30.8%, which according to their range is below average but not drastically.

He's probably tired from the anemia, you're right. He seems to be getting more color in his gums and eyes as he starts feeling better, so that's likely the cause. :)

The only medications we have in the house that are dangerous to him is tyelenol, but it's in the medicine cabinet and I'm sure he hasn't gotten any. Otherwise, we live in an apartment so what they spray on the gras and surrounding area's I have no clue of. I do know they sprayed for june bugs somewhat recently, but he doesn't even go pee/poo on the grass where they sprayed, Art does. Art isn't sick at all, so I don't think that's likely.

I really don't know at this point. I wish I knew what it was, maybe my vet will have an idea.

Update:

I went to my regular vet and she ordered another test. Apparently the other vet didn't do a complete blood workup so she wants to make sure everything else is normal (live, kidney etc) and she also listened to his heart (other vet did not) which luckily sounds good. :)

As far as the cause of it, it's still unknown for sure. We should get the blood test on Thursday, but in the meantime Talon is a lot better. He's more energetic and doing well. The only problem really left is he is peeing like a horse, but I'm pretty sure it's the prednisone.

Absolutely. When Logan was on pred, he peed more than I could even imagine his bladder could hold lol.
