I'm gonna have to just love my colour after this first application, I think lol. Or wait to do another. I don't have a lot of spare cash at the moment and Henna isn't cheap. :p But thank you for the advise! I am getting two boxes of Henna, so 200g. I hope that will be enough. And I have a friend coming over to help me. But she's coming over in the morning, so I will just have to hang out all day with henna in my hair, wrapped in plastic wrap lol.

The lady selling to me said she has very similar in colour hair to mine and she said that she gets a "rich 'Irish Setter'" colour... so looking at that, I'm cool with that. :p

Well, I'm in the process of henna-ing my hair. I'm not sure what exactly I thought it would smell like, but it smells identical to my chinchilla's food :p

I'm a bit nervous! I have a TON of hair, and it's all henna-ed and piled on top of my head; it's so heavy! Here's a before picture:

How much henna did you end up using to get all of your hair? I am looking forward to after pictures! :) I am SO excited to do mine!

250 grams, and I barely had enough! I'll definitely post after pictures! :) My bathroom is a HUGE mess. I'm not even quite sure how henna got splattered in all the places it did.

On another note, both dogs won't come anywhere near me. I'm not sure if it's because of the shower cap or the smell :p

Eek... I really REALLY hope I have enough to do my hair. Gah. I only have 200g. And I have pretty long, thick hair. I'll have to make it a little more runny, I guess..

That picture is about 4 months old (I hate pictures of myself), so my hair is a little longer now than it was there. Plus a lot of it ended up on the floor. You'll probably have enough if you're more careful and conservative with the application than I was! :p

My hair is probably a little bit longer than yours in that picture, and really thick... Gah. I will have to be very careful. Just couldn't swing another box right now or else I'd have gotten 300g. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I haven't mixed mine up yet because I am not sure if I'm just supposed to mix the Jamila powder with boiling water or what...

Hm. I mixed mine with a little lemon juice, and equal parts boiling water/red zinger tea. I'm a complete noob to the henna thing, though. Maybe someone will chime in!

I rinsed it out. My plan was to sleep in it, but I started getting a headache; it was in my hair from 6PM-11PM. Without the flash, it's actually not very noticeable. My hair feels so much better, though! Next time I'll definitely leave it on longer! Here's a few more before pictures, then some afters. These are taken with an iPhone camera, and the colours aren't very true-to-life.

I can't wait to see how yours looks post-henna! :)

I'm really worried that I did mine wrong! I've just never done anything like this before so I had a really hard time getting ALL of my hair coated, I don't know if it would have been easier if I thinned my mixture out more? Blah. I'm scurred that I missed parts  Plus my hair is short so it wouldn't stay piled on top of my head well and kept falling in my way, and my bathroom was a complete disaster afterwards... totally should have laid down newspaper like they suggest...

Anyway, I've had it on my head for a little over 3 hours now. I might just go another hour or so.

Here's my before, won't have an after shot until later tomorrow... if it turns out decent enough for me to share. :p

Well, I just finished washing it out. Unfortunately I can't really tell how the color turned out lol my hair just looks...dark and wet. As usual. And since it's 2am I'm not going to take the time to blow dry it now. =P I can tell that my roots are rather orangey/reddish so I'll take that as a good sign that the color at least took lol.

It was a piece of cake to wash out, thankfully. The whole ordeal was a little bit of a pain for me, just very time consuming and messy. Not sure if it's something I'd want to tackle again anytime soon unless I end up really loving the results once it's dried.

Hannahbeth, something tells me you have a bit more hair than I do, lol. It's way longer and looks like it might even be thicker, and mine is pretty thick! I really like how yours turned out! It looks great! That first pic with flash, without flash is my ideal colour, though I don't think I'll get quite that. But we will see.

Southpaw, WHERE ARE YOUR pictures?!

My dye is setting now... and oh my, it smells AWFUL! I mean, I grew up on a farm with lots of hay and smells like that natural earthy smell... but they never stunk as bad as Henna! lol I am getting pretty excited, though! I didn't have a glass bowl to put it in, so I hope that it still works... though I got some on my finger while mixing it up and it wasn't even on my finger for a minute, and I now have an orange tinted finger, so I think it's gonna work, lol.

Henna question. Does it come in different colors/shades? My sister wants to do it, but she wants a dark brown (reddish tint is fine). Also, does it work on colored hair?

From what I have gathered, the PURE stuff only makes it red/tints of red. But I know you can buy stuff from Lush that makes it more brown and even one that makes it more black. http://www.lush.ca/Henna-Hair-Dyes/henna-hair-dyes,en_CA,sc.html

But all of the other colours aren't "pure" henna. They have other stuff mixed in to make it that colour.

I might redo mine relatively soon. I feel like I could have done it better lol.

I'm having a heck of a time getting pictures that actually shows the color! The sun isn't out today (figures, the one cloudy day we have!) so my comparison shot isn't the most accurate.

Henna is red so I think you'll always get some reddish hue from it even with other things added. Some of the hennas from Lush have Indigo added to them which makes them darker and tones down the redness a bit. I got mine from Lush but I got the Rouge so it doesn't have any indigo added, I wanted to get the most red that I could.
I'm not sure about henna over colored hair. I know you're not supposed to do the opposite (chemical dye over henna). You could always test a small amount of hair to see how it takes.

Wow! :) I like that a lot! Looks really nice! How long did you leave it in?

Thanks! I had it in for about 4.5 hours. That wasn't as long as I had wanted to leave it in, but I didn't get it on my hair until 9pm... so it seemed like sleeping with it on would have been a bit excessive, but I also didn't want to stay up to wash it out at 3 or 4am either. =P
