My legs shake during weight lifting workouts every time, haha. Oh squats. If I don't end a workout feeling like I got my ass beat, it wasn't a good workout. But then again I'm slightly insane.

When you push yourself to that level, that's when changes happen. It's good for you!

Starting the "transformation" weight loss routine. 25 minutes of intense workout 5 days a week. Also doing a low carb diet. I'm scared because my body is in bad shape (really bad back & feet, and moderately bad hips and knees) but I'm going to do this. I'm ready.

I love that feeling. I didn't when I started but now if I don't feel dead then I don't feel like I worked hard enough. Even the last workout of the program, I KNOW I should've been lifting 30s but I didn't and I'm still mad.

I never thought I'd be like this but omg must be sweaty and barely able to function to feel fulfilled!

So was mine 6 months ago. I could barely get through the 10 minute workout. Keep working, take one workout at a time and don't beat yourself up if you have trouble. You took a while to get out of shape, you won't get into shape overnight.

You're "I'm going to do this. I'm ready" is exactly the right attitude!

Thank you!! That's really encouraging! I wouldn't be too worried about the soreness or the pain part of it except that I'm doing the work out every weekday morning at 8 am and then I go in to work for an 8-9hr day. And I really don't want to be like...crying in pain at my job all day! LOL.

You're very welcome. Remember the old "no pain, no gain" adage? It's bullshit. Working out shouldn't cause "pain". Sure, it should "hurt", but there is a difference. If it was easy, it wouldn't be called a "work"out.

Soreness is one thing. Pain is another. You can push through soreness. You need to treat the cause of pain.

For me, today I did that 2.3 mile route again. I did it before breakfast. I did need to stop because I had decided to try a pair of orthotic inserts in my running shoes that I use in my walking shoes and my umpire base shoes to give a little more support. I have been dealing with some Plantar fasciitis symptoms lately, especially since I started running again. I get relief from stretching and icing and it doesn't bother me when I run, but I figured I'd try the inserts to give more support to the tendon. I stopped about 2 blocks into my run to remove the inserts because I was cramping where it was pushing. Who knows what damage I would have done if I had "pushed through the pain" on that. I just shoved them in the pockets of my shorts and got back on my way. No problems after that. I have taken a 20 oz soda bottle, filled it with water and froze it solid. Then after my runs and a few times a day, I get it out and roll it under my foot for 10 or 20 minutes to reduce inflammation. It seems to be working, because my pain level on waking was significantly less today.

I'm sore today. But I am finding this is a good boost to make me want to eat healthier. I packed myself a lunch today which doesn't seem like a big deal but it really is for me. I always buy lunch at work.

Thanks Eddie! I'll keep that in mind! It makes a lot of sense.

Just got back from my first morning of work out. The friend I'm doing it with didn't get a chance to get her weight room cleaned out so we decided to walk. What should've been 25 minutes ended up being 47 minutes and change. XD But I actually feel good. My back and feet got a little sore, but they seem in decent shape right now. And I got a charley horse in my leg while walking and had to stop and stretch it out, but it also feels fine now. Maybe I'm in shock or something LOL! J/k but it wasn't too horrible. I feel tired and a bit sore, but good. :)

I can't believe it. I don't notice it to that extent on myself but now that its side by side I can see why people do double takes now. It's amazing.

So, I wrote this in my sparkpeople blog - thought I'd share it with you guys:

A gozillian years ago (well, more like 25), I was a runner. I ran on the cross country team and winter track team in high school. My best 5K was 16:27 my senior year. I wasn't awesome, but I wasn't slow either. I ran a little after high school while in college, but never competitively again and not to the extent I ran during the sports seasons. Years later, when I would meet with friends who knew me from high school and I was asked if I still ran, I stole a line from "Real Genius" and replied "Only when chased". Having played softball for years, I would also sometimes say, "Only 60 feet at a time".

Fast forward to this week. Something has come over me. I have a desire to run. I've been working on my fitness level for 6 full months. I've lost 78 pounds and am as fit as I've been for quite some time. I'm not sure why I want to run. Perhaps I'm being chased - chased by my young, more fit self - chased by my fatter self from 6 months ago - or chased by a "mid life crisis". Either way, I'm running again.

It started with my mentioning to my wife that I'd like to start training for a 5K in the fall. It didn't matter to me what 5K, just that I wanted to do one. Then when we were away with my daughter for freshman orientation, I went down to the fitness center in the hotel to walk/jog on the treadmill. As I started, I noted that the treadmill seemed to know what my heart rate was, even though I wasn't holding the sensor grips. After a few minutes, I realized that the heart rate monitor I wear to exercise is the same brand as the treadmill (Polar) and they synced up. So it became a game. The treadmill would adjust to get my heart rate in the "right zone", I'd speed up/slow down as appropriate and watch the tenths of miles click off. As I approached one mile, I started setting my goals. First is was a 2nd mile. As I approached the 2 mile mark, I said, "5K is 3.1 miles. I'll do that". I completed a 5K on the treadmill in perhaps my slowest time ever (just over 43 minutes), but I completed it and that made my happy.

The next day when we got home, I said, "Well, I'll run around town now." When I got about 6 blocks away, I started resetting my goals - get to the next block - get to "the square" - now get home. I completed the run - just over 2.3 miles according to the "map your route" feature here at Sparkpeople.com - in 23:35.

A day after that, I ran a mile on the track. 8:08. This morning, I popped out of bed and did the run around town route again and completed it in just over 23 minutes.

And so it begins and it turns out that instead of being chased, I am the one doing the chasing. I am chasing new goals and new levels of fitness. I am chasing a life where I don't need blood pressure or cholesterol medication. Above all, I'm chasing a healthy lifestyle that will enable me to live a long life and enjoy it with my family.

So, bring on the chase. I'm ready for it.

Up "at the crack" today. Did my run (2.3 miles again).

Off to help my daughter practice the parallel parking (driver's test later today).

Yesterday (the 4th of July!) I woke up at 8am and ran 2.5 miles. Then at 11am I played ultimate Frisbee. At lunch I chose a healthy-ish option (a Gyro burger instead of a burger smothered in cheese and bacon) and only ate half of it. In the evening I went on a 10 mile bike ride.

I am finding that I absolutely love being active :)
