Pure awesome.

Well, I can't speak for the breed in general but I can speak for Wesley, no idea if this holds up against other standard poodles. He's always up for whatever but has fantastic chilling capabilities. He loves cold weather, really doesn't like the heat. Loves kids like whoa and loves dogs a lot. He gets along with the little critters well too. I will say the majority of Standard Poodles I have met are pretty snarky with other dogs, but I've noticed a trend in the females being that way especially?

He's a really silly, goofy boy but is really intelligent. He feeds off of people's emotions really easily, and has a tendency towards anxiety. Very much enjoys the act of snuggling. He's pretty reserved when he meets new people and can be a little wary, but he warms up to them really fast once they're deemed ok. He is an alarm barking machine and would be an excellent watchdog if it was needed.

I know several that have a strong natural tendency for guarding and are far from overtly friendly with strangers. Aloof and aware are fair terms. They are super silly and fun dogs but so are my Malinois with me, with a stranger pressing them, or worrying them its a different story.

I'm not sure how handler reactive or sensitive they are.

I really like the breed, they're extremely versatile and I don't mean it insultingly when I say they have a harder edge than most people expect.

My family has had one Standard after another. They do tend to be more dog than one would expect. That being said, with an hour or two of exercise a day, ours had a great off switch in the house.

The last one, who I grew up with, really enjoyed people and liked attention but could be snarky with other dogs, as has been said. She had great ball drive too. She was a pretty anxious dog when it came down to it, although that was more just her individual personality. Despite that, she wasn't guardy of us or her home and was pretty laid back with strangers, unless they offered her attention. Then she'd go gaga.
