This type of tool is extremely effective for dandelions. If you go out and do a few every time you take her out, they'll be under control in no time at all.

When I'm killing them in a driveway or patio, I usually just boil up a big pot of water and go around dumping it on them. They shrivel up on contact. It also cooks any seeds stuck between patio bricks so you don't get new ones right away.

It'll kill your grass though, so won't work on a lawn unless you can target it exactly onto the dandelion. Even then, I don't know if you can get it down to the root without it killing nearby grass roots.

ETA: if your lawn has large solid clumps and patches of weeds though, the boiling water would work really well for that.

I yank them out of the ground one by one. Or I just leave them alone and snip the flowers off before they go to seed. People around here aren't into perfect lawns so nobody cares if there are a few dandelions as long as you aren't responsible for seeding the whole neighborhood.

Me too. In the garden I use the hoe.

My backyard is a weed infested jungle. I'm about to cough up $10k to get someone else to deal with it, because I do not have the time/energy/know-how to take care of it all. Bleh.

My next house will be a townhome with a tiny yard.

 Too bad you're on the other side of the country, because I'd do it for less than half that $$.

How much free time do you have this summer? Your kids want a free tour guide through the museums of DC while you slave away in my backyard? :D

(Kidding, but only because DH would have a heart attack that I was inviting the internet peoples into our home.
