Stray pug

Showed up at my SIL's I am so tempted, he's been advertised every which way, dog catcher and SPCA are aware and on local radio...

No one is coming forward, which blows me away, he's neutered, good with their JRT, and 6 year old, knows some basic obedience, house trained and well behaved, though the poor guy had 12 ticks on him...

If no ones come forward by Wed, I may just bring him home.. Risky though because I'm in Ontario and I'd an owner comes forward later it means shipping him back

True, but they may not evencome forward. I forgot you was away.

I may take him anyways, Wed will be almost a week, and he's advertised everywhere! If someone's looking for him they should easily find him, worse case I waste 150 and ship him back... Be harder on my heart tho

A week isn't very long, IMO. Just because the dog is posted a lot of places doesn't mean the owners aren't looking. Some people aren't very in tune with the ways to find a lost dog.

There was a dog in my area who had been lost since December, a very much loved agility dog. It took the owners 5 months to find him. This was kind of the opposite situation from yours. The owners advertised everywhere, local vets, grooming shops, facebook, sent an alert to the microchip companies etc. The only reason they got him back was because when the weather got warm he started having allergy issues and his new family took him to the vet. Lo and behold, he was microchipped and the vet contacted his owners. 5 months later, they got their dog back.

He looks well cared for, someone will be missing him.

Also keep in mind his owners may have been traveling through and their dog got loose and ran off, or the owner could be a truck driver and the dog hopped out unnoticed.

Been checked for a chip, and remember where I am, extremely small town, and if the owners hadn't heard any if the radio spots (one station) seen the newspaper as (again one paper) or saw it on Facebook then a friend or family member is guaranteed to have... At the two vets, no one recognized him... It's weird, no collar or tattoo (still common here)

Honestly? I wonder if he belongs to a tourist? But this area is so depressed very few travel through...

Have a better solution though, just in case, my MIL is driving up the end if June, she's going to keep him until then, and I'd no one comes forward in a month, the SPCA is going to do a surrendered foster situation and we can legally adopt him

This is the only thing that makes sense, though down here very few travel "through" it's the end of the province and as a rule ESP these days no one comes here unless they live here lol

I just worry. I know I'd be frantic to get my dog back, but I also wouldn't give up hope after a week.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do. I'm sure if the owners came forward you'd do the right thing.

Oh no doubt there, hard as it would be, that's why Im going to have him stay with my MIL until the end of June, that's near two months, if no ones claimed him by then they better have a darn good reason... Also taking him to a vet Mon an hour away in the next town to double check for a chip and see if they know him there as off chance as it may be, no one breeds pugs for hours away, it's a rare breed here, no one can recall anyone around who owns one (again, very small town, everyone knows everyone or if they don't they know someone who knows the ones they don't LOL) that's why it's so very strange to have a purebred period show up stray, let alone a Pug

This sounds like a great pan, that is a good amount of time.

If a dog is stray and picked up by the council, in most of the uk they are up for rehoming within 7 days.

Sucks, but probably sucks more to be a stray dog.

And if someone comes forward late down the line, I'm sure you'd do the right thing by him

Yah, honestly, a week is more than woulf be given legally here at least. If he were to be picked up by or dropped off at the humane society, he would be up for adoption after 3 days.

Same here. At work we hold them seven days (with ads placed) before starting a search for a new home, but at the shelter here I think they get either 3 or 5.

Happy ending! A mix up of sorts, father thought he was with the daughter, daughter thought he was with the father... They live a few houses apart and when they got together both were like "Where's Hank?" Yes Hank... LOL
