Mira and I have done it twice and would really like to try again. There was a competition near here this weekend, actually, but she's in heat so no dice
Usually we don't have any within 2 hours, which is more or less my outer radius.
The first time we went was just a practice funtime thing at a county fair. We happened to be nearby (visiting family) so went. It was a lot of fun. The guys running it were giving me this pep talk about how it's okay if your dog doesn't want to jump right away, etc., and I kept telling them this was probably not going to be an issue...I have a water-crazy Flatcoat...sure enough I unclipped her lead, released her, and started walking up the stairs to the dock...I had barely reached the flat when Mira jumped into the pool at the other end of the dock and treaded water, waiting for me to throw the toy that was still in my hand...lol
The second time was an actual competition, and indoors which was really weird for both of us lol. From the dock it looked like jumping into bleachers until the last minute. We don't really have style...I just chuck the toy to the far end of the pool and let her go. But we had a lot of fun and she did pretty well for an amateur. Not exactly a 26'-ers like some of the hardcore folks there, but we could hold our heads up anyway
