Vibes that it's nothing too serious! Dogs seem to love making their owners worry, so hopefully the vet gives you some good news.

Well, they're thinking it's just a muscle injury/strain on the left side of her neck. She's on muscle relaxers and pain medication and crate rest for the time being- no running, jumping, parks, agility, etc. I have to raise all of her food bowls up so she doesn't bend down. She started acting much much better at the vets after she was moving around some. Vet said she's moving good, just reluctantly. There's nothing neurological going on. She did end up sleeping last night too and is resting right now.

If there's no improvement by monday we're going to be doing x-rays.

Poor thing, but I swear papillons act like they're dying every time something doesn't feel good. It makes it very hard to judge the severity of what is going on!

I'm so glad it doesn't seem to be anything serious. Be sure to bring her chicken soup in bed and tell Mia to let Summer have the remote control while she's resting.

Lol I don't want to be in the broken dogs club! :p

Mia's actually being really really sweet to Summer, which is hilarious because yesterday she was dragging her around by the tail. But she's just curled up with her all the time. It's sweet. <3

Oh man, I swear I got to the vet and the tech was really hounding me to do Summer's annual exam that day. I just told her point blank no, I'm not giving my injured dog her annual right now. I will schedule both my dogs when Summer is feeling better. Then I heard the tech telling the vet Summer was overdue her annual but I didn't want to do it right now and the vet chewed her out saying 'We don't do annuals on dogs that are in for injury/illness!' THANK YOU.

First thing she did was run after a rabbit in our yard.
Well now, doesn't that make you feel better than seeing her refusing to even get up?

Now say it with me:

"STOP IT THIS IS WHY YOU KEEP BREAKING!"

This is me: 'But you were refusing to move an hour ago!'

And at the vet she wanted to jump on people. Really it does make me feel better because all last night and this morning she was just sitting there not moving at all, not even looking at me, and holding her neck out funny. I'd much rather see some sort of indication of the happy dog she usually is.

But she needs to stop running and jumping and hurting herself like that!

I am glad she is doing better! at least better enough to chase a rabbit! And yes Papillons are such drama queens I swear, the tiniest thing wrong and they act like the world is falling down around them. You wold think for such rowdy little dogs they would be able to take more pain.

My dad totally called it last night. Beau did the same thing years ago over a pulled muscle.

I have never had such non-pain tolerant dogs.

Just a thought. Summer is "older" if I remember correctly, right? Could it be a calcified disc in her back? Ma'ii behaved the EXACT same way before he was diagnosed.

Either way, hope she get's better soon.

They do not think it is IVD/calcified disk but if she doesn't eat better after rest thats our next thought. I really hope it's not :/.

They didn't think it was because she's moving very well and not ataxic or anything. It's also very clearly on one side of her neck. I'm still a little worried about it but we will just wait and see.

The way the vet explained it to me is depending on the location of the calcified disc, the dog can still move normally. Ma'ii's is located more towards his lower back, and with the exception of some yelps once in a while with sudden movements, you wouldn't know he has it.

I hope that's not the case with Summer though. It's something I wouldn't wish on any dog or owner. Hopefully the vet is right :)

Yeah the vet was saying that since the pain is definitely high in the neck that there would likely be issues neurologically. It is right by her left jaw area/behind her head.

I'd imagine if the pain is more in her neck area, but she can move around fairly normally, then it isn't a calcified disc. I had a beagle years ago who had a calcified disc in his neck, and he could barely walk or lift his head. It got so bad, we had to have him euthanized.
