I have an interview at the Petsmart pet hotel in a few hours so I'm starting to freak out a little. Anyone know what sort of questions they'll likely ask? Any tips? I want to be as prepared as possible!

When I worked there it was when they had the equine department here so I was quizzes on my horse knowledge (which of course I passed with flying colors) but my manager was an asshole & I didn't like the fact that I also had to deal with the fish & other animals they had ... I don't know of they still do that, but I don't like that approach ... It seems like they would be better off hiring someone to work I tht department that has real experience, like I did with the horse stuff instead of someone who doesn't have a clue.

Never worked at petsmart, but I did get a doggy day care job - unfortunately I'm pretty sure I only got that job because I had a really strong recommendation and grooming experience, which meant I could cover for bathers.

They'll probably care more about things like your ability to be on time, reliable, flexible, responsible, etc. and follow directions and safety procedures than they'll actually care about your experience - but saying you've worked with dogs before and are knowledgable about their body language and way they communicate and can quickly identify when one is fearful, stressed, or threatening other dogs will probably help.

They'll probably ask you typical questions like "why are you a good candidate for this job?" and "why do you want this job?" and "what do you expect working with live animals to be like?"

Don't be afraid to mention the work you've done with your own dog! Explain that you've worked with your dog on his reactivity issues and if you feel like that gives you a leg up or has been valuable experience, say so. I know that counts to me when I meet potential employees.

Thanks guys! The interview went well I think, they told me to call the store manager tomorrow to schedule a second interview with him. I think that interview will be more nerve wracking, are second interview questions a lot different?

For me it was basic interview questions, what has been your biggest accomplishment, your biggest challenge etc.

Then it moved on to training questions they really like when you support the use of haltis and easy walk type things and dislike the use of prong and chain collars.

For me at doggy day care, my second interview was even easier/similar to the first.

First, one of the managers interviewed me. Then she told me she felt really good about it, and gave me a second interview with the owner. The owner really pretty much asked some similar questions to the manager, and really just explained the job to me a bit more. It kind of seemed afterwards like the manager basically hired me, and the second interview was just so the owner of the place could get a feel for me and make sure she did an adequate job choosing someone.

If they've interviewed multiple people and various candidates seem like equally good choices, it might be different.

Had my second interview today with the store manager. He said that after the drug test, the job is mine! I'm so happy I have a job, I don't have to keep looking and have my parents down my throat. Plus I get to do something I know I can do and think I'll really enjoy.

Awesome! Working at day care was sometimes really exhausting and it took a little while to physically get used to all the cleaning and lifting and stuff, but it was a pretty enjoyable job. It's definitely more "work" than "playing with dogs all day" but wayyyy wayyy way more interesting/fun than something like retail. I really loved my job at dog daycare. I hope you enjoy it!
