If you are pre mixing the oils make sure it's a sterile container and not one you have to dip your fingers in each time.
This sounds complex lol. Is this just so your grubby fingers don't dirty up your oil? I wash my hands before I wash my face. And I don't own anything sterile lol.

It doesn't have to be like hospital grade sterile...just make sure it's a good clean container where you can easily pour out the oil instead of sticking your fingers in and that it can seal closed instead of having an open spout. Any kind of cleaned out face wash bottle or small lotion bottle should do the trick

Looked for coconut oil at my local grocery over lunch...and failed. Either they don't have it or they hide it. Couldn't find a stocker to ask. Will have to try somewhere else next time.

Even if you've washed your hands you are still putting "stuff" back into the jar that can sit and contaminate your oils.
I have a jar of face scrub from Burt's Bees and I have to put my fingers in it to scoop some out and it's gross when I think about it. So I try not to think about it. X_X

The bottle I used when I was doing OCM was just like one of those little empty bottles you can get in the travel department at any store... Target has a bunch of different kinds for 99 cents. Definitely get yourself a bottle of some kind rather than using a jar and sticking your fingers back into it.

...Is seriously considering trying the OCM as well as a no-poo hair care. With the no-poo, those of you who use that, do you wash everyday? Can you use a coconut oil afterwards as a conditioner?

With OCM, do you need to rinse it off at any point, or do you just leave it on?

You'll need a soft washcloth, your oil blend, and hot, running water.

Pour a generous puddle of oil into the palm of your hand. Roughly, the size of a quarter, but more is acceptable. Rub your hands together to warm the oil and smooth over your face.

Begin massaging the oil into your face. This will remove makeup, dirt, and other impurities, so there is no need to use a makeup remover or wash your face prior to the massage. I've found that this removes even my stubborn waterproof mascara and concealor.

Using slow, firm motions across the skin, massage the oil deeply into your pores. Take your time and focus on your problem areas. You want the oil to work into your pores so that blackheads and the like can be dissolved and steamed away.

As you're massaging, let your mind drift off to something calming and breathe deeply. Take this time to relax and release some of the stress that your body is harboring. Sit down, breathe deeply, and take your time. Give the oil enough time to work on dissolving the impurities in your pores and give yourself enough time to unwind. Picture what your face would look like if it were completely clear and free from blemishes. Focus on that image and know that it is attainable. Trust that it is attainable. Accept that it is attainable. You can have clear skin, free of blemishes and you will have clear skin, free of blemishes. Focus on perfect skin and breathe deeply. (LOLOL this entire paragraph never fails to crack me up.)

Once you're satisfied that your pores are saturated and you're feeling calm, pick up your washcloth and soak it in clean, steamy water. We want the water to be warm enough to open your pores and remove the oil. Cool water will not open your pores, nor will it remove the oil efficiently. We're not scalding our skin, we're steaming to coax our pores to release the oil carrying the impurities. We're essentially steaming our skin as an esthetician would, but without the luxury of a steam machine.

Hold the washcloth to cover your face. Allow it to stay until it cools. You will feel your pores releasing the impurities. Wipe the oil gently away and rinse the washcloth well in hot, running water. Hold the washcloth to your face again, allowing it to cool. Wipe gently, rinse well, and repeat two or three more times. Avoid any temptation to scrub, as you'll find it's completely unnecessary and your skin will be soft, smooth, and free of flakes without the additional manual exfoliation and irritation that will result. Impurities, dead skin cells, and bacteria will be gently swept away.

Have no fear of the oil, as the steamy washcloth will remove it. The Castor Oil, though it is an oil, will help with the removal of the other oils, as well. It is our main cleansing oil and is easily removed with warm water.

alrighty... count me in on this OCM chazhound experiment.

Just mixed 1 part Castor Oil to 9 parts Jojoba Oil and added a few drops of lavender essential oil. It's in a squeeze bottle and ready for me to start using tonight. I'm going to just do it every few days or so. Washing my face every night is a bad idea usually so every few days or so should be just fine.

I'm also going to try something with my hair tonight probably.

Very interesting that oil will actually cancel out face oil ... Kind of goes against everything we know about face cleansing.

As far As COM goes ... I wouldn't be able to leave it on all night I would only be able to leave it on for 30 min at the most ... Would it still work? Also I have read that it has to be shampooed out ... I use the no poo method, could I effectively wash it off with conditioner?

No, actually, it's exactly what we know. It's chemistry of solubility. Like dissolves like. Oil dissolves oil. Water will not dissolve oil.

So far so good.. thinking of getting a less heavy oil for my face (I've read coconut is a bit heavy for those who breakout sometimes) but I love the smell! My face has cleared up quite a bit.

Loving coconut oil as body lotion though!

As to the OCM - I'm down for the experiment. My skin has been getting progressively worse since I stopped using oil on it every day, and I'm breaking out and bumpy and have blackheads and scars. I'm going to go back to the oil and see if it clears up. I think I'll do some before/after pictures. Anyone else down for that? :p
I did a picture the other day with no makeup or editing at all but I don't think I have a good comparable before picture.

I've changed to Jojoba and I really like how light it is. The olive oil was too heavy for me and I'm using the coconut oil as a moisturizer rather than to clean.

I'm hoping I'll like the jojoba. Added the lavender essential oil since I wash my face at night Nd have trouble sleeping so hoping lavender might help.

I have EVOO, castor oil, and a pitchfork for when we form a mob and go after Linds for making our faces fall off.

Still looking for coconut oil, all these other crazy oils you folks seem to find, and torches.

Does someone want to break down the effects sulfates have on hair in simple terms for me? What are the benefits of going with a sulfate free shampoo/conditioner?
