I put myself through a lot of embarrassment today because of this thread lol. Decided to get some castor oil for my face... and needed some Miralax for my cat... so it ended up looking like I have a major pooping problem... :rofl1:

About to go get some castor oil, sunflower seed oil (maybe lavendar?), baby wipes, rosewater stuff.... anything else I find, too. Hopefully they'll have it at the Neighborhood Market, because we have none of these stores you guys are talking about :rofl1:

Use just the code at the end of the URL, not the full URL.

Also warning for any emitophobes not to watch that link if it's what I think it is.

I used EVOO and castor when I tried OCM, 50/50 for a bit (which I don't know why that is suggested on some sites when on so many others everybody is like OH MY GOD TOO MUCH CASTOR OIL!) then switched to 75/25... then tried grapeseed oil. I liked the grapeseed oil better (EVOO has a particular smell, bleh.) The coconut oil felt weird, I didn't try that very long! I didn't try sunflower oil, that's a good idea... I do like sunflower oil for cooking!

For cosmetics, I love love love Mon Ennui Cosmetics. They sell containers of loose powder and clear eye and lip "potions" so you can mix your own, as needed. They're GORGEOUS. I seriously want to do paintings with their pigments. And she makes them out of natural ingredients, because she grew up allergic to most makeup and after figuring out how to make it for herself thought other people would want it too.

Sadly, the owner is recovering from a serious surgery right now so the store is on hiatus for a little while. But I highly recommend getting some samplers or something when it comes back.

Huh, that braid is really interesting! I wear my hair up in a ponytail all of the time at work, so that would be a neat way to do it. I couldn't really tell from the photos, but is the bottom half essentially a french braid?

I will be eagerly watching this thread for hair tips...ever since now, I have worn my hair two ways: up, or down. LOL I either throw it up in a ponytail, do a half up/half down dealio, or just flat iron it and leave it down.

I've now added French braids to my list, but I am just HORRIBLE with styling my hair. Absolutely horrible. I can't even make a proper sloppy bun.

So...I want to see tons of hair styling tips, people! :D
I am a pony tail girl too usually ... If I need my hair braided I uses to to it myself... But since my shoulder injury where the horse kicked me, I have to have someone else braid it now ... So I usually put it in a pony tail

I have recently started blow drying my hair on medium heat and using a heat protectant, but I do this everyday now :( Is it just as bad on medium heat? I just love how it falls and how unfrizzy it is when I blow dry it.... I don't want to ruin my hair though.

Are you washing your hair everyday as well? When I get a blow out at the stylist (VERY rarely lol as my hair is naturally curly so we tend to let it air dry) it lasts several days, the smoothness of it.

It's better, if you're using heating tools, to use them on the coolest/lowest setting possible, but I think any amount is damaging. But if you're blow-drying on a low or medium setting with a protectant once or twice a week, I don't think it's going to do the kind of notable damage high heat more frequently is going to do.

OMG if I put anything on my face that ended in the word "oil" it would look like a pepperoni pizza for sure :/ lol.

I like my hair to be "touchable" I only use the braid for work to "protect " my hair for work to keep it "safe" lol

My skin is super oily and it actually seems to have helped even since last night. Usually I wake up with a new blemish or two in the morning, but this morning there was nothing new (whoohoo!).

The premise is that oil dissolves oil. The skin oil that gets dirt and impurities in it and hardens in your pores is what causes acne.

When you take a clean oil full of vitamins and minerals and massage it into your skin, it dissolves the hardened gross dirty plugs of oil in your pores. Then you steam your face under a cloth and wipe off the excess. Voila! clean. :)

If you've ever used orange or lemon oil to clean a greasy stove, you'll know how well that works. Same principal.

What Romy said. I've got really oily skin and am prone to breakouts and what I think might be undiagnosed cystic acne. Since I started this a month ago I've gotten one pimple and that was right at the start. No new breakouts, much more even skin tone and less oily skin.

We'll see how it works long term and I know everyone's skin is different but so far I'm impressed!

Okay I'm totally and completely trying the OCM ASAP.

What's the best way to achieve long, healthy, soft, shiny hair? I have been battling damaged/ungrowing hair for a long time now, and it's SO much better than it was (the ends were basically fried off when I had my hair ombréd about 8 months ago), but it isn't in good shape. It has grown slightly but I have had to cut off dead ends a little at a time.

It grows VERY LITTLE, VERY SLOWLY. I have trimmed maybe an inch or two off at most in the last 8 months and it is the exact length it was when I ombréd it. I used to have very long, thick, healthy hair, and now it is nothing like it used to be for whatever reason. My guess is a combination of damage (from bleaching/coloring) and diet (from when I was on a 500 calorie diet with no fats or oils of any kind, even on your hair or skin).

However I have been eating relatively healthy and haven't colored or bleached my hair, have been using expensive "treatment" shampoo and conditioners, applying expensive Aveda brand oils to my ends, and leave in conditioner, trying not to blow dry or straighten, etc, etc. It is definitely in better shape than it was. But nothing like it used to be.

Any tips? This OCM for your face sounds fantastic, like a skin miracle, so maybe one of you also knows a hair miracle? :D
Try a deep conditioning treatment? I'm guessing your hair is naturally wavy/curly since you mentioned straightening it? If that's the case your hair will probably love some extra moisturizing. It's rare that I do a deep treatment because I get lazy and forget - but this thread had me feeling girly today so I actually have some goop sitting on my head right now. It'll help repair your hair, get some moisture back in it, make it soft and shiny... probably not help it grow, I think that's just an individual thing, but it's beneficial in lots of other ways!

Anyway I make a homemade treatment by raiding my kitchen. Today I made mine with a few squirts of conditioner, a chunk of a banana, tablespoon or so of olive oil, a plop of coconut oil.... mix it all together, apply it to wet hair, and now I just have my hair all up in a clip while it sits for an hour or so. You can add honey, mayonnaise, eggs... I just don't have any of that stuff :p There's no rhyme or reason to how much of each ingredient I use, and I ended up having A LOT extra since my hair is pretty short.

Otherwise healthy maintenance. My hair started looking a lot healthier just by using more natural products that aren't full of chemicals. I do use a little bit of heat, I blow dry my bangs and sometimes diffuse the rest of my head a little - but that doesn't seem to affect my hair really.

Hair miracle - depends on what you are already doing but generally...

Get down to washing 1-2x a week

Use sulfate free shampoos

Get as basic and natural as you can with your products

Nourish your insides as well

Make masks, packs, etc out of everday items. Egg, vinegar, coconut oil (all ois really), avocado, on and on are all great things to use for conditioning purposes.

I'll have to give the oil thing a shot. I've tried natural face washing products and it does weird things to my skin. My face wants chemicals dammit!

I'm not super impressed with Burts Bees shampoo and conditioner, and I can't bring myself to order shampoo off the web. My hair does well with the sulfate free L'Oreal stuff I think it is. I have read that it's not truly sulfate free, more like low sulfates, but it works better than Burts Bees and regular shampoo. I work in a factory and while it's a pretty clean factory, I feel icky is I don't shampoo daily.

Oh and with all things, when switching to less washing of hair, new products, OCM for the face, washing with honey (which is awesome too), etc etc, sometimes it takes time to adjust to the new routine and it can get worse before better.

And, anyone else here have addiction to nail polish?? With gardening season hitting its peak, my nails will suffer...but I still love my polish:D

I miss my nail polish so much :( At work I regularly have to use industrial strength acetone with is obviously not good for the polish. I have some coworkers who swear by these gel nail stuff they get some at a nail place. They can get acetone on their nails and it doesn't remove it. It's their own nails too, not acrylics (which I've had and will never do again).
