No, but I was two when my brother was born (and a few weeks after I got my first dog) and I was four when my sister was born so I guess I wasn't alone enough, but I didn't realize they were so common or normal. That's pretty cool!! I kind of wish I'd had one now.

I'm with blue. You guys are my imaginary friends :D

A tangent to this - about 8 years or so ago, my girls got very in to "Annie". My older daughter had been in the school production of it and we had the movie (from 1980, not the Disney one) on DVD which they watched endlessly.

Coming out of this Annie obsession was that they played "Orphan" a lot. It was a game where they pretended they lived in the orphanage like Annie did. One of my friends asked when observing their game if it bothered us that my kid's fantasy play was predicated on the fact that I was dead. Changed the whole dynamic. Been watching those two ever since :yikes: :rofl1:

I suppose technically you could say I still have imaginary friends, but the word for them these days is "head people." They don't interact with me or usually things going on in my life, just with each other. And what happens in their own lives. Characters for my stories who live in my head and like to pop up at the most inopportune times - usually when it's completely impossible to write ANYTHING down.

A few weeks ago I was in the shower and they started talking and it was kind of panic to get out of the shower, run to my laptop, and start hammering down everything before I forgot what was going on.

It's weird.

Never imaginary friends (and I was an only child until 10), but I did have an active imagination. I used to play in my room for hours with my Barbies, and toys, and dolls, etc, and make them talk to each other, etc. I was very good at entertaining myself lol.

Once I discovered my dads giant video camera, I used to make movies with them too. Like I would put my Barbie on the table, tape for a split second, stop the camera, move the Barbie barely an inch, tape for a split second again, and then by the end, I made the Barbie 'walk' LOL. I was very into techy stuff from the beginning ;)

My friends and I used to pretend we were other people all the time and we played 'house' where one of us was mom, dad, sister, brother, etc, and we would pretend we were older than we really were. I remember I always wanted to be 12 - I thought that was sooo much older and such a cool age :rofl1: We played 'school' a lot too, as much as I hated the real thing, we loved playing teacher and stuff.

I was also obsessed with Backstreet Boys and me and my friends would dress up like them and make music videos. Oh lord those are entertaining.

I had an imaginary sister growing up... who stuck around until about the time I hit puberty. When we moved to the US I would speak "English" with her - in reality I wasn't really speaking any language. I remember sitting in my closet speaking what I thought was english.
I also called myself Hannah for a while for reason... my imaginary sister changed names ever so often.
I had a pretty vivid imagination as a kid though :)
Oh - and I am an only child..

Hannah doesn't really have an imaginary friend but all her stuffed animals are alive to her.
Oooooh, this for me, too. I had to sleep with them in rotations because otherwise they'd become offended. And if I put any of them into storage, I had to explain to them why I was doing so, and that I still loved them. Not to mention when my mom made me give some away due to the fact that I had SO MANY.

I also would do that with my animal figuring toys. I had an entire WORLD in my head devoted to their playtime. How they interacted, how the world worked, the terrain, the back stories, the neighboring towns...everything was thought out. Sometimes the animals were animals, but intelligent beings, in a world ruled by people. Sometimes they were races of their own.

I really miss being "too old" to play with my toys. It was so much fun. Now I guess I just spin stories in my head.

ETA: I most certainly am NOT an only child (have four other siblings, I'm the second oldest) and I grew up with multiple dogs, a cat, and various pocket pets.

Ha! I did the same thing. And if one fell off in the middle of the night, oh boy, I thought they were MAD! I also had a lot of china dolls my grandmother collected for me. I turned them around each night so they couldnt see me sleeping with my stuffed animals. I was convinced they would get jealous and kill me in my sleep:yikes:

No people, but tons of pets. From dogs to dragons.

I used to ride dragons all over the place :)

However, I'm struggling to get past the hidden cameras being filmed bit omg! :yikes:

I had three main imaginary friends growing up, Raleigh, Ru, and Allison.

Allison was actually Alice from Alice in Wonderland, the TV series. I thought that Alice's name was Allison, and her last name was Wonderland. Allison Wonderland. I very clearly remembering telling my family that Allison was having a baby and I needed to give her all my doll's clothes that they had "outgrown". My grandma sat with me and I had all my doll clothing in a little chest, and we went through it all and sorted it into piles to "keep" or "give to Allison".

I also was constantly imagining that characters from books or TV shows or movies were interacting with me and playing with me - most of them were dinosaurs when I was really young. First the Dink The Dinosaur dinos, and the The Land Before Time dinos. The Winnie The Pooh characters also hung out a lot.

When I was older (around 6, 7, 8) I had imaginary dogs, instead. The first one was a husky named Curly (like in Call of the Wild). I think that eventually turned into a whole crew of like 6 or 7 dogs, but I can't remember them much. My friend also had an imaginary dog named Hershey, a boxer. They played together.

We also had imaginary dolphins that lived in the pool. Mine was called Splash, and my best friend/neighbors were called "Anita" and her baby, "Peter". We said they could swim back and forth between our pools through a secret portal behind the pool light.

I was probably around 9 when I stopped playing with my imaginary friends.

I didn't have any actual imaginary friends, I wasn't all that creative though. I would pretend to have conversations in my head, but honestly it was never too an actual 'person' in my head. I just talked to myself, and then I would respond. Not out loud either. I think I did it because that way I couldn't interrupt myself or talk too quietly. I used to talk extremely softly and would get ignored because of it, so that escalated into just not talking much.

I did do the car jumpy thing, but instead of an animal I'd pick a dot on the window and physically move my head up and down to make it jump over stuff. So I'd just be sitting in the car, bobbing my head. Now I do an even weirder thing on car rides, even while driving that's hard to explain.

I was in love with stuffed animals when I was younger, and they'd all be in my bed with me at all times. On cold nights I'd get them under the blankets. To solve the jealousy problems I would often pile them all up into a huge pile, and fall asleep on top of them, with the theory that if I was touching one, then my love would be passed from that one to all the animals it was touching, so it would all be spread out.

I never had "literal" imaginary friends because I always "lived" them through drawing or writing I guess.

If I didn't do that all my "imaginary" friends were plush toys lol ... That was until I got my fist dog.

try to explain, now I want to know!!!
It's not anything cool or anything, but you know the dotted and solid lines on the road? I'll use my hand, and imitate the lines. Like, where there's two solid lines, two of my fingers nearest that side of the car are pressed down, and I'll lift the fingers when it becomes dotted.

Like, there's usually only three lines to take care of, the two in the middle and one on the outside, and the fingers I've assigned to each line have to be pressed down when that line is going past the car. I've done it so much that I do it without noticing it at all now, it's strange

Oh my god I thought I was the only one that imagined animals on trips as a kid lol ... I thought I was crazy
I had a friend, who also had imaginary pets, and we'd often have games together with our pets.

She was extremely artistic and would often draw them, and once even made stuffed animals with wire in so we had them really there!

I loved my imaginary menagerie!

Lol, that is totally me, except I am involved in their lives. They have lives outside of me, but if I am on a long drive, or just relaxing and not thinking about anything (usually evenings, bedtime, lunch, breakfast.... anything except work :p ) I can resign into my little "world" in my head and start becoming a part of their lives.

I have gone months following a world of people's lives chronologically, one full continuous "story", before it ends and a new "world" is created and there's new people, new events, new politics, new settings.

It's probably a bit weird but, I enjoy it. I've always assumed the reason I'm like that is because being deaf in a hearing world, everyone wants you to be part of the events then they dump you, content that you're there but not involved. So growing up, being able to resign to an alternate world in my imagination was how I passed the time. Now, I'm almost 30 years old and that imagination still is as strong as ever. So I consider that a blessing, to be honest, strange as it is.

EDIT: Though Doctors, and a certain dear friend on this forum, probably think I need to get help!

I remember mine like it was yesterday. I was so attached to all my imaginary friends, I sometimes still imagine them being around for the fun of it, once in a blue moon though. I always constantly had them around me, they would always play around/do obstacles/help and sometimes fight each ether. I loved car trips because I'd also imagine them going over obstacles and such.

My main imaginary friends were Max, a purebred male Rottweiler who I watched grow old. He was always around me, he'd 'protect' me. I think this is were my love for the breed came from. Funny little story with him though. One day I was at school and I was devastated because our SBT had passed away the day before. I believe in ghosts and as I was sitting in class, I saw the spirit of our dog, Toga walk towards me and as clear as day, I saw Max get up, growl at her since he was unsure of her but back down when I said who she was. She said her good byes that day. What I find weird, I wasn't expecting to see Max since I wasn't thinking about him and I saw him just as good as I saw Toga. I don't know how to explain that.

Next was Char, he was a charazard, he was a Pokemon. I adored him, he was my protecter, he looked after all the other imaginary friends, he was almost always around me. He was also a doctor. He had a hospital in the clouds where he helped all my imaginary friends.

I love Pokemon so most of my imaginary friends were Pokemon, I had a ton. They'd always follow me around and play around. What I liked most, there was a bit of a story line and so many different plots happened between them. There was a ton of good Pokemon but bad ones as well.

I had a human imaginary friend called Charlie, he was my only human. I made him up when my friend had a imaginary friend called Jack. He was around for a few months before he decided to run off with Jack and never return to another dimension. This what felt so weird because I tried imaging him being back with me but I couldn't ever do it, it's like he made up his mind that he didn't want to come back.

I also had dragons, creatures, horses, a pride of lions and other big cats, a pack of wolves. They all did so much and entertained me. I loved them all. I also had these clouds that could talk and they'd always give me lollies.

I have a awesome imagination and I currently have these people who I act out in my head about a gang. So, I do what Beanie does except I have these characters because my friend role plays them with me with hers in person/on the phone so I/they act themselves out in my head when we aren't together.

I had one when I was really little.
When my sister was born (18 months younger) she soon ended up with the same friend.

I don't remember her now but Mum says she was a little girl, very uch matching the description of a little girl she would frequently see out of the corner of her eye. And that everyone else that lived in the house or often visited would see.

My guess is that my sister and I were probably seeing a ghosty.

I also had an imaginary Dalmatian that I invented to go everywhere with me. I even kept track of his age as he grew.
