It has been a VERY long weekend. I don't think I'll do another 4-day show. It's long and exhausting. But I had a TON of fun, and got to meet Sizzle and Airn! Everything was horribly disorganized, which didn't help any. But there were more dogs and more vendors than last year, so that part's looking up.

FRIDAY

Friday was 2 CATs and a match. Kaylee, Rocket, Gwen, Logan, and Gavroche all ran 2 CATs each, and all got 2 legs except Rocket. He got 1 leg, and it was through no fault of Aryn. It was a terrible judgement call on the part of the coursing people. I'd have been pissed if it was my dog. Logan and Poison were in the match. I'm not sure how Poison did - I saw her in the ring for the first part, then I moved to where adult BIS was going to be judged...and waited forever (I thought it was going to happen much quicker, which is why I moved!). Logan got BOV and Group 1 by default (he was the only adult herding dog). They did not give out a reserve BIS in the match, but I think the pointer got BIS. I don't remember anymore lol. Our BIS judge ran away, so we were waiting until they found another one. The group/variety judge in the match LOVED Logan's structure.

Gavroche got his CA title, and was TIRED. I'm super proud because he ran the FULL course for all 3 legs. He was eligible for the half-course since he's a flat-faced dog, but he has enough of a muzzle and loves it enough that I let him run the full length. He crashed HARD after his first run of the day, he slipped and rolled at the end of the course. Then he nearly fell at the end of the second run, too. He was definitely sore the next day, and yesterday. Today he seems better, though.

My makeshift grooming table

Logan waiting not-so-patiently for BIS. He and Gwen got into a contest to see who could be the cutest and get the most attention lol. Logan was convinced Gwen MUST be a collie, because she's pointy and tri-color.

Poison! <3 She's a charming, adorable puppy, especially when she has a turkey foot.

Bored. Are we done yet? (She did VERY well with such a long, eventful day, though!)

SATURDAY

A CAT leg each for Logan, Rocket, Gwen, and Kaylee. Gwen got her CA title, YAY!! Afterwards I had conformation with Logan. He got Best of Winners, and I *think* he might have gotten a point, because he beat a puppy bitch and a special bitch, but I don't know for sure. Thus judge Saturday liked Logan the best out of the three judges we had in breed ring over the weekend.

Kaylee

I just realized these are in reverse order for each dog lol.

SUNDAY

Logan had conformation again on Sunday, this time there was also a National Owner-Handler Series competition. Logan got Winners dog, but the puppy bitch didn't show up, so he couldn't get Best of Winners. He got Owner-Handler Group 2nd, which I was not expecting! He was beaten by a gorgeous bearded collie. I think we got 25 owner-handler points for the day, 5 for BOV and 20 for Group 2. I didn't know this thing had points or what it was even for until last night when I got home to research it. Apparently the top 10 owner-handler dogs of each breed at the end of the year (October marks the end of the year) get invited to a big national competition in Orlando in December. We will likely qualify, but I doubt I can afford to actually go :(

My dad took pictures Sunday, and he really has no idea how to work my camera, and the lighting is terrible to begin with (see Poison pictures lol). But at least I got some Logan pics!

More, still!

MONDAY

Today Logan got Owner-Handler Group 3 for I think 20 more points (15 for group 3, 5 for BOV), giving us 45 points total and placing us at #2 NOHS Smooth Collie in the nation, and the #1 NOHS Smooth Collie Dog (#1 bitch has 70 points). The judge in breed and NOHS group were the same, and she really didn't like Logan that much :/ The sheltie from the group pictures (group 3 Sunday) before beat us, as did a corgi that was absent yesterday.

I got to hold shelties for some people when they were in the ring, and I fell in love with their little boy <3

I have really grown to love grooming. Logan hates it and wants the world to know how much he hates it in the bath. I told him everyone knows he's so abused, but nobody cares ;)

Somebody save me. I AM SO ABUSED! (I impressed a couple people with his tape. It's paper medical tape from the Dollar Tree and it comes off instantly and leaves no residue, but stays put for a couple weeks at a time. It's nice because I can just pull it out right before our ring time).

He looks like such a derp in this picture lol

Our ribbon haul for the weekend, minus one orange coursing rosette they need to mail to use because they ran out. I also won a Purina travel mug, and to get it I had to fill out this card that asked what food a feed. I found immense pleasure in writing down a NOT PURINA food :rofl1: I use the mug to mix chalk and corn starch (interestingly, I used no chalk on Friday and Saturday and did use chalk on his legs Sunday and Monday, and he did his best in the breed ring on Saturday with no chalk. That may be just a coincidence, but still!)

And finally, packed up and ready to go. And he was FINALLY tired!

This is the dog that beat Logan all weekend. He's a very nice dog, but it irritated me that he's chubby, when the standard specifically states fat dogs should be penalized. In this photo he's thin compared to how he looked today. To be honest I tried to bulk Logan up a bit, but he either doesn't eat more than he needs, or he eats everything and then has diarrhea, and ends up staying the same weight. Even if I could have fattened him up some, he can't stay in that condition all the time. It's not healthy for the activity and work he does.

DONE!

Ahhh so many great pictures! Logan is so adorable. He is an acceptable boyfriend for Gwen :rofl1: Both of them behaved amazingly (except at the lures but.... lures!). I was so proud of Gwen. It was so much fun to meet you and Logan and Sizzle and all the dobes. Logan got so many ribbons! And Gav was a cutie. I love his ears ;)

We'll have to do this again next year, but hopefully we'll get to hang out before that. There's a fall show, right?

And thanks again for taking pictures of Gwen. Chaz would have hated me if you and Sizzle hadn't been there. :rofl1:

Unfortunately, the big fall show (in Salina) has been cancelled for the last two years. There are some good-sized ones over the summer in Tulsa and Oklahoma City though! I think one at the end of May, and one at the end of June? I don't know when the nearest lure coursing event is, but I think it's also in Tulsa in June.

I had a great time meeting everyone and all their dogs, too! :D

Congrats on the wins. Looks like you had a busy busy weekend. Where do you guys go to look up info on non-sighthound breeds lure coursing? I don't think AKC allows non-sighthound breeds to lure course.

Those are fantastic! Poisons legs really are almost impossibly thick for a bitches aren't they! I can't wait to see her all grown up!
She has decent bone, yes. :)

On the contrary... the dogs in this thread have AKC Coursing titles.... specifically, Coursing Ability titles. Any breed can get a CA, CAA. CAX etc. but only sighthound breeds can participate in competitive AKC lure coursing.

More info on the CAT program: http://classic.akc.org/events/coursing_ability_test/index.cfm

Ok I thought it was AKC that didn't allow non-sighthound breeds to compete for titles. Its probably AFSA. I'm always getting them confused. Thanks Sizzle for that info. I will have to check into it for Ivan.
