Waiting forever in the doctors office. Stressing out about talking about my stress and anxiety. Makes sense, right? Totally why I'm here. And yet.

Also forgot to take Zane out this morning before I left, so BIL will have to do it. Whoops.

My boyfriend means well, but he just spent a year trying to get into the school he really really wanted to go to, and he's in! ...

and now he's going to interview at a different school today.

He wants to get his BA in the next two years; it took him five to get his AS.

why change? WHY. He literally didn't even APPLY to any other schools in the year he was trying to get into the one he's accepted to because there was NO WHERE ELSE HE WANTED TO GO.

He spent five years bouncing from program to program trying to find what he wanted while working on his AS, and now doesn't even want to use it.

SOMETIMES GETTING IT DONE IS THE RIGHT THING EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT SURE.

Jesus.

With the nice paychecks coming our way, it will be really nice to save, eventually get a house and some upgraded vehicles...

BUT HORSES. I want one NAO.

BYB'ers aren't all bad ... By healthy I mean that the pups/mom seem to be in good shape, good weight, shiny coats, not mangy or thin.
My first Chow was from a BYB. They had dogs from decent lines, but did not health test. He had horrible hips, which he had surgery for. He blew out a knee (which he had surgery for) and he was allergic to everything green (which we managed by keeping him away from all things green). To look at him, he was in wonderful coat and condition. Even seein him walk around, you'd not know he had any issues since we fixed them.

To continue, my Grimm was in fabulous body condition..even when an autoimmune disease was taking him from us.

And Julian, who should be the poster dog for BYB, is in fine coat condition (except right now, because sometimes you need a haircut) and he's a little turd..physically and behaviorally.

There is not a single thing you can tell about those pups from a photo, except that, yep, those are Mastiff mixes.

I'm not certain that you are grasping what a BYB actually is... most BYBs don't have their starving dogs caged in a shed, covered in filth and grime.

I feel horrible and sick and cold and achy and tired and...sick. But I took my temp and it's normal so I don't feel validated in taking off work and I already had to take off a couple hours on wed to go get my license. So I'm gonna go in but I really need to sleep. :(

I don't think any knowledgeable dog person thinks mixes are healthier... I certainly don't, working in vet offices for nearly a decade. I do equal bloodwork and xrays on both mixes and purebreds.

To be anecdotal: the dog I've personally had with the worst hips (worse even than my Chow, who had an FHO) was a mix of probably Golden and probably several smaller things. Horrible, horrible hips. And she passed away of a brain tumor before age 5.
Grimm was a mix and passed away from an autoimmune disease.

I suppose someone could breed mixes and health test to stack the odds in their favor. But this is not extremely common (and certainly not for someone registering on kijiji...) But, as a whole, no..mixes are not automatically more healthy

I agree with Grab, ime my well bred purebreds, from healthy lines, by far were my healthiest dogs. My mastiff/rotty mix had bilateral TPLO surgeries, the mutt I had growing up had horrible teeth, nothing would fix it, other then surgeries. The only poorly bred purebred (to the best of my knowledge) is Bristol and she is only 2.5 so we will see with time.
