Les Mis was FINALLY at the cheap movie theatre ($3.50) but today was the last day...and I missed the last showing by THIRTY FREAKING MINUTES. :wall:

I guess I'll just have to rent it on Amazon or something. I was really wanting to see it in a theatre though :(

ETA: WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!! THE SCROLL BAR JUST DIDN'T LOAD! It's still showing tomorrow, yay! :D

Missed the first leg of our trip to Ireland by approximately 30 seconds. They were closing the gate as we ran up. It is "our fault" for "only" getting to the airport 2 hours early (you have to get there 3 hours early according to ticket policy). There are no more open seats for 3 days due to spring breakers. Our only option is to purchase brand new tickets for Monday night.

Whole trip is canceled. Non-refundably.

This sucks. I have been in tears since 5:30 pm.
That's awful. I am so, so sorry. :(

It's my friends wedding day and snowing :( it's a 2 hour journey at the best of times, so we can't go.

I'm gutted! And just want to set off and see, I don't think the roads will be that bad once we go, but it's a big risk as cars have been stranded in other places :( :(

Ok seriously... it's 9 am. Why do the neighbors feel the need to blare their music and rattle my walls with their bass?

I mean I know why... the sister that owns the house is not home so the mooch sister who sponges off of her takes advantage of that and blares the music.

Thanks guys. This morning I'm feeling mostly just embarrassed that we messed up. Looked to rebook everything for the summer time, but it was going to be twice as expensive (and we already paid for the first trip, so we'd be paying 3x what we originally planned) and it's just not in the budget for my travel buddy.

Tried to email all the B&Bs and excursions we had planned to see if we could get any money refunded. Hopefully we aren't out the full $1500 we had each budgeted out. The boat tour told us that the weather was so horrible that they canceled their tours this weekend anyway, so there's some solace in that...

My favorite boarder came in yesterday. She's the only Bulldog I can honestly say I find adorable (no offense to Bulldog people) and if they ever gave her up I'd take her in a second. She's definitely not a 'to standard' bred dog. She has chronic Demodex issues as well as likely allergies. Her owners, one of whom is a medical person of some type, will let us put her on meds when she boards, but going by her skin when she comes in any other time, they don't continue at home. She came in this time and she's got massive bald spots, wounds from tearing herself up, her ears are a mess, and she's lost 3 lbs, so her spine is very visible. Her owners said nothing when dropping her off. She was again prescribed meds, but come on now..

They've given her away once and she was returned when that person didn't want to take care of the skin issues either. So sad :(

My boss was supposed to look after the horses tonight Since I'm sick. She just text me saying that she couldn't muck out because one of the TWO pitchforks Is broken and I didn't tell her. Of course the reason I didn't tell her was because it happened last night, when I was sick, freezing, getting pelted with hail and trying to work out how to squeeze 3 horses
to 2 stables because the roof was threatening to come off the third stable. Then I had to make sure the 2 mares had more than enough to eat so they wouldn't fight.

All of which means that tomorrow I'll have to spend double the amount of time trying to fix the mess the stables will be in. I should have just worked even though I'm sick. It would have been less trouble.

i'm exhausted and my back hurts and I really want to just run a hot bath and soak.

but my friend's birthday party (the one dating my co-worker) is in a couple hours. and they are both my friends so of course I want to go. but I don't because it will just be a mass of people being really loud and drinking a lot.

maybe I will go just for a bit... just to make an appearance... then I can come home and go to sleep.

Have you talked to them about it, or are you assuming that they don't take care of her skin at home because of how she looks when she comes in? I just put my American Bulldog down a couple days ago. He consistently looked like a severely neglected rescue dog for the horrible state of his weight, coat and skin, yet this was a dog I spent nearly $10,000 over the course of a couple years attempting to treat for his issues. I apologize if you know for a fact that the dog was not treated for her skin issues and allergies, but it hits a raw nerve (because I've gotten a whole LOT of nasty looks, and comments, about my own dog) when people assume that because an illness isn't getting better = dog isn't being treated for it.

I wish I could decide on a breed for future puppy. And a way to get that breed.... and the puppy.

Ugh.

Although I did e-mail a breeder.... But I'm pretty sure she's not Chaz-worthy. She didn't mention health testing or anything like that and the puppies are under $500. I'm not sure if it's worth it. I don't want an unhealthy dog......

More ugh.

The vets have talked to them about it. They've said they don't want to deal with her skin issues..it's why they gave her up once before. They don't do follow ups, refill meds, or change diets. The one time a vet gave them a lecture, they followed up for a few months and she looked 90% improved. They do have kids, which is why I suspect they aren't giving her up a second time.

I do think they care for her a lot, they just don't have a lot of time, it seems, to deal with ongoing issues.

If you can't find or afford a well bred dog from a responsible breeder, PLEASE don't go to a sub-par breeder. There are too many risks for you AND you're encouraging the production of puppies by that breeder, thus contributing to a surplus of un-health-tested/screened dogs.

Cost alone doesn't a bad breeder make, but that combined with a possible lack of health testing certainly should raise flags.

How does "an appearance" always turn into three hours later.

And I meant to go to the grocery store when I was done but since it was past midnight and I was so tired I didn't. Tomorrow we're supposed to get hit with a major snow storm so I'll probably be stuck at home all day which means no groceries tomorrow either.

Also this storm is going to impede my half marathon training some more. I'm about to be like "forget it, I'll just walk the whole thing." Which is stupid because I ran six miles this morning which is almost halfway there anyway, I'm just being overly dramatic, but this weather has been immensely frustrating for training.

Speaking of which my friend told me she's going to train for a 10K. She said she went for a run this morning and went to the gym for a stretching class afterward and it was great and helpful; I told her I could understand that because I went for a run this morning too and my back had been hurting all afternoon. She asked how far I ran and I said "Six miles, so not a big deal."
A 10K is six miles.
I'm an idiot.
What I MEANT is that I'm not in double digits or anything... so not like I went out and actually ran a half-marathon or anything...
idiot.

It has really been the most sad, dissappointing last two days ever.

Yesterday, we head over the pass as we had to pick up the rest of our stuff to drive it to our apartments. Since it was a 5 hour drive and the dogs didn't get any excercise that morning before we left, and everytime we make the drive we pass this awesome looking park by a lake we decided to stop and let the dogs swim. It was a nice day, but still a little too chilly for people to go swimming so no one was there.

We've never been there so after checking it out, we decided to let the dogs off-leash (it's fenced except the opening where you drive in which they would've had to run at least a half mile over hills and grass to get there) since both dogs wanted to burn some energy and they have good recalls.

Well, we played and let them swim for a good 30-45 minutes, lost two tennis balls in the process lol. Right before we get ready to leave, suddenly a black lab comes charging over a hill at the far end and goes straight for Art. I called Talon, and David called Art immediately. Talon made it back, but Art wasn't even able to turn before the dog was on him.

The dog grabbed him, flipped him, and at that point all I could see was thrashing and Art screaming bloody murder. :( Luckily David had a clearer head then me, I held on to Talon scared the dog would go after him next. David ran at the dog and threw a very large stick at it and luckily it ran away. Art is very luckily to be pretty much OK. Nothing requiring a vet at least. Art was about 10 ft away, the dog was just too big and too focused on him, Art was too tired to run fast on the sand. :/

So David got Art, after we did a quick check over of him I ran to catch the owner if they where there. I went up the hill towards the parking lot area, because I figured if the owner had the dog, they could be trying to run away. Guess what? I was right.

I saw this older lady with the lab on a leash and a golden off leash trying to book it out of the park as fast as she could go. I yell to her, saying "excuse me!" "Ma'am" etc but she ignored me. I knew she could hear me as I was yelling and a person that was walking towards the lake ahead of her heard me. I got to her and said excuse me she turned around like she didn't hear me before. Yeah.....OK whatever.

First thing I said was, "Your dog just attacked my 14 lb terrier" and she says "Oh I'm sorry, I try to keep him away from people and dogs because he is so aggressive." Really? Yeah...I know thanks! While the attack happened I didn't hear this lady try to call the dog at all, she was no where in sight. Then she tries to tell me that she will never come back there again.

I told her "That's great, but though I don't see any wounds on him right now, I need your information in case we find any damage." She looked like she was trying to think of something to say, then started giving me a phone number and luckily her dog, the on that attacked Art, had a collar with their phone number and dog's name embroidered on it in very bold white lettering. The number she started giving me was not the same. ....yup

So I go "oh look, that must be your number on his collar huh?" I took a pic of the collar and dog and lady. Got the number, her name, her dog's name, just in case. Told her that her dog could've killed him, that dog could've hurt someones kid or someone that didn't have a dog it wanted more. The entire time her dog is just staring at me, not in a friendly way.

I left it at that, and Art is fine. Again, no serious injuries at all, we got super lucky. Though he was attacked, it was a nice lake and we had a lot of fun up to that point. Poor Talon, we went to the dog park today and he was a bit weary of the pack of 3 black labs that came over. Luckily they where all friendly.

Then today we took Talon and my sisters dog to a herding thing a place around here does. Everyone I've ever heard from says it's a lot of fun and a really great place to try a herding instince test unnofficially. I meant to go last time I was there, but wasn't able to due to time restrictions. So we went today. I got to say, that is the worst place I have EVER been to!

I was so excited when we got there, we signed up and started watching a dog in the ring. I look around for a moment and start noticing all the prong collars, eh...ok. Not my style but that's ok, not a big deal. I go back to watching the GSD herd. The guy has a PVC pipe, which I knew they'd have, they do need to protect the sheep and guide the dog and sheep, at least that's what I thought it was for.

Suddenly the GSD get's too close to the sheep and the guy pulls the pipe back and slams this dog right on it's back. HARD. This was not a gentle reminder to back off, this was seriously a beating. Then again, right on the head. Then again on the back because the dog didn't run far enough away. Then he throws a bottle full of rocks at the dogs face, and hits him in the head with it. The people on the side lines all start cheering "good shot" "you showed him" "good job, good timing" Me, my boyfriend, and sister are on the sidelines with our jaws on the floor. REALLY? this was NOT training! This was animal abuse!

I was a bit prepared for some rough styles, I understand needing to protect the livestock, but this was completely uncalled for. Then suddenly their "trainer" was showing a family with a dog with people aggression issues that has bitten someone (we heard them talking) how to "pop" the leash on the new prong collar they just slapped on it. They pretty much where hanging the dog, on a prong collar no less!! Of course all this happened within minutes, we immediately look at each other and find the person to get a refund, but she's not there. We go over to a group with nametags and ask, and she was training with someone so we had to wait.

As we wait someone with a border collie probably a little older than talon has a rock filled canister he throws at the dogs head anytime he whines, or moves, or IDK what it did at one point. Argh, then the group of "trainers" or employee's, started chatting about how the one "trainer" was with a group of people and someone commented on how inhumane a scruff grab was. So she says "I showed her. When my dog didn't listen to me the first time, I grabbed her fur and pulled her off the ground. Yeah, she tried to grab my arm at one point, but there was only a few scratches so it's all good." WTF seriously? How can this place be "so much fun" and "such a great place" ??? How do they get great reviews!? REALLY??

So finally the lady for the refund comes back and we tell her that we where watching and don't agree with their methods and thought we just needed to head home. I let my sister talk because at this point I couldn't keep a cool head. It was really horrible. The lady keeps telling us how, "well get home and regret not trying" and not "every dog needs the stick" but she couldn't guarantee they wouldn't beat our dog or throw rocks at it. Then how "vets have come out and are completely amazed at the transformations dogs go through here" and how even a positive trainer came out and loved it. Yeah, doub that. Then she says "I just don't want you to leave thinking or saying we are abusing the dogs" We assured her that we didn't think that (even though we very much did) so we could get our refund.

No, we don't regret leaving. I only regret ever going. I don't care who's been there, that is NOT ok. And yes, that is definitely what I'd consider abuse. Hitting dogs with PVC pipe, I don't care if it's thinner than an inch, it whips and a full grown man using as much force as he could, causing his dog to limp out of the ring IS abuse!!!

I am honestly super frustrated and dissappointed at the entire thing. I wanted Talon to herd so bad, I knew he'd enjoy it, but I'm not throwing my dog in a ring just to be bashed on. Period.

Well she replied and I e-mailed back asking several questions, one of which is if she health tests. I probably didn't ask all the right questions, but I tried to include health testing, breed related health problems, average age, etc. I hope she realizes I'm asking about HER dogs specifically and not just the breeds.

Is there a site or thread that lists breeders that health test? I'm looking at about 4 breeds right now, putting out feelers to see which one fits best with us. The cost is an issue, but I could do a payment plan..... Though even with one I'm not sure we're comfortable going over $500. It really depends.

I'm trying not to get a BYB puppy but I'm not good at noticing the 'red flags'.

A quick google on finding a responsible breeder turned up several checklists. This one seemed quite reasonable: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/responbr.html

What breeds are you looking at? Often those on Chaz can give you an idea of what health tests you need to see for the specific breeds. You can also check the OFA website for the health check results of specific dogs: http://www.offa.org/
