I forgot earlier!

I never thought I could be a sighthound person, but I think I would love living with a certain type of Whippet. A friend of mine has an 8mth old from (I believe) racing lines and that dog is awesome. I love her. She's unlike any other Whippet I've ever met (who've all been pet/show lines) and just amazes me. I'd like to meet more from similar lines someday to see if they're all similar to her or not.

And I was weird with Aussies. I've loved them for a long time, but waivered on them a lot over the years, unsure if they were actually suited to me or not. There are so many BYB ones around here that made a bad impression. On paper they sounded perfect, but I was never in love with most of them in real life. It took working at my current job to meet a handful of really nice Aussies that made me take another serious look and go "hey, these dogs are everything I've been looking for. Maybe I should reconsider..". And I'm glad I did, because mine anyway is the epitome of everything I've wanted in a dog. And now I get all giddy and happy when I see another nice Aussie.

I love yay life dogs as long as they have the right kind of edge. I find more and more I love the overly happy, ready to try anything and have fun dogs with some drive added in. Mia is almost always moving at a happy bounce (unless the ball is involved that's srs business. Summer quite often pogo sticks her excitement and I love that.

I don't even know how to describe it because a lot of yay happy breeds annoy me.
That's kind of how I am, I think. I love a dog who is always happy and thrilled with life, but they have to have a level head and focus and not just be all over the place all the time exuding happiness. Along with my love for perpetually happy dogs, I guess I also need them to know when it's time to seriously think and focus on a particular task.

This has totally happened to me! I do boarding so I see a lot of different breeds (and get to live with them in my house and really get to know them) and I have to say it has turned me off a LOT of breeds! I was pretty sure I was going to go with a GSD next but I have two super regular GSDs who have made me reconsider (to be fair, I don't think they're the greatest examples, but still).

Koolies were on my maybe list for a while, but after living with one (who I love to bits!) I think they are not for me. Almost, but just not quite.

As for the other way around, I've met Mals and a Dutch Shepherd who I just adored right off the bat! But I was at least somewhat interested in those breeds prior to that too, so I don't know if that counts...

I do fall away from breeds I meet. I never want a mal from the ones I've met. I don't want a dog that hard.

Flat coats though... I knew I wanted from when I met Kaleb. Then to test that I went to the specialty and immersed myself in FCRs and their people. Sold me on them.

Shelties I've been wishy washy about because some can be so shy and reserved and really hit or miss for drive. But I met a breeder who has dogs I really like and produced a dog that I REALLY like that my friends have so I'm sold on a sheltie for nextdog.

Papillons I love still but don't know if I one would fit after meeting them. They're cute and fun but I still don't know.

Yep! I've had several breeds on my "want" list, that after meeting them I knew I would never realistically own. Papillons were one of them, and they're still I breed I very much admire. But I've met several at the training center and while I still love them, I know now that they are definitely not the dog for me. Too cat like :p lol
Another breed that immediately pops into mind is the BC. And I still occasionally want :D I love their energy and handler responsiveness and trainablility, but the intensity and the staring is a big put off. Like previously stated, too serious for my personality. I need a laugh. Hence the sheltie :rofl1:  oh Bailey

Aussies are one I've waivered on. Initially I loved them then met some and thought 'no way'. Then I met MORE of a more working type dog and loved them again. Lol. Line matters, I suppose.
I thought this was just me! I have been back and forth on Aussies. Right now I am sooo for  lol!

On the flip side, I've always thought that terriers were not the breeds for me. Pretty much any of them. But the more I spend time with certain terriers, the more I love them and can picture it happening. :D

Still think you need one. but I think everyone needs one. :D

I don't know if I'll ever have another sheltie. I love some of them so much, but many shelties just... not really. I loved mine a lot. Something just doesn't fit right though and I've really had a hard time coming to terms with that. I still have a soft spot for the breed, but I really have a hard time seeing myself with another.

I see so many poorly bred dogs that there are whole swaths of breeds that I feel like UH-UH NO WAY NEVER... and then I meet a well bred one and wonder who is the exception, the ones I'm seeing or the well bred one. :p

Lol. I know they've been out for a while. I love hanging out with them and I totally see the appeal but I take it too personally when my dog wants everyone else to be their friend as well.
Yay life! and noisy:

Shiba Inus. I don't like small breeds, but I covet all the Shibas. We spent the weekend with Adam's friend who has a Shiba, and he was an absolute unruly cat-like asshole. I loved him. I have yet to meet one and not think, "I love them." The only reason I even started to consider them is because Adam wants one.

So true.

Even though I normally prefer a dog that is silly happy with me but aloof with strangers.
This. Quinn is a complete goofball with family and I love that about her but very few other people see that side of her. I also like that to her, work will always be top priority

I've actually found that I love dogs that are "yay life" and are people dogs--love to meet and interact with people with some focus and drive thrown in so that tasks can still be preformed. My ideal dog is a social, confident, happy, drivey, focused with an off switch lab.

I have a bird that is into me and only me and everyone else can go die as far as he's concerned, so I've have my fill of that sort of thing--happy, social, adaptable critters for me from here on out.

You'd like my Pirate. That pretty much describes him, except he's not a Lab.

Yeah, I tend to like the outgoing dogs myself. Part of why I wound up with Staffords. Though ironically, the first 3 Staffords I owned weren't all that outgoing. I think Elmo, my first, would have been more outgoing if I weren't his 4th home, I think he was a little clingy because of that. My girls have been willing to meet people who make a little effort, but willing to ignore strangers too. Pirate, OTOH, thinks he's a celebrity.

Irish Setters surprised me when I've met them, they are much more 'air headed' than I expected :D. I also grew up wanting an Aussie so bad, and the more I meet, the less I really want to live with one. Collies too...I've met some sharp ones for sure, but a lot of them are so mellow, not what I expect.

Breeds that I never expected to like and I'm fighting? Cocker spaniels. I don't know what it is, but I've met a few that just had 'it'.

I think the only breed I can think of that I use to adore, and sounded great for me, but I can't stand to live with them are Golden Retrievers. They sound great, and a few are, but the majority drive me up a a wall. I literally walk away from them gritting my teeth as I find them to be super off the way, no focus, crazy dogs.

I met one at my job that I absolutely fell head over heels for. They got it from a shelter, the lucky couple, I wanted to steal their dog. lol It was a year old, deep red in color, light feathering to the coat not too fluffy. It was sooo awesome! It was intellegent and friendly without being over the top crazy and pushy like most of them. I was (kinda still am) in love with that dog. If every golden was like that dog I would definitely go for it! Unfortunately, they are not and I can't stand them. Even most of the well behaved ones kinda drive me nutty lol

I used to really covet NSDTRs. My friend has an absolutely wonderful girl who is sort of my model for everything I want Cohen to be, training-wise. I had an opportunity to get a pup from this same breeder (well respected working/sport breeder) but ultimately had to pass. There's just something about the retriever personality that doesn't quite gel with me.

Whippets are another breed that I've been infatuated with for a while. (The long haired ones in particular.) However after seeing friends working their whippets in agility & flyball I realize I don't have that kind of patience. Even the drivey ones are kind of flighty and emotionally fragile. I don't think they'd be a good fit for me.

Malinois and other Belgians are so cool to watch, but for some reason the more I meet the less I could see myself with one. I think the manic self assurance might be what's giving me pause.

Aussies are an odd breed for me. Obviously I love Cohen to bits, but the more Aussies I meet, the less I really like. If I were to ever get one in the future I'd probably have to search long and hard for a line that has the kind of things I really want.

Border Collies, the more I meet the more I love them. My husband doesn't agree, but we'll see if I can convince him to go along with it a few years down the road.

There's something about the Toller personality that doesn't quite gel with a lot of "retriever people" either :p. They are just a little...different.

There's a cocker in my rally class that I am in. love. with. I want that dog. He's AMAZING--cheerful, self-possessed, and such a good worker. I'd take him home in a heartbeat.

I still think he's a bit wacky looking though.

I love cockers, talk about a good breed with a bad rap. Given Ive met a lot of ditzy ones and a lot with bladder issues but over all they've been a pleasure to be around.

The one I covet, the lady trains him with really, really harsh corrections, but he just doesn't quit.

She can't keep up with him when she sends him over the broad jump, so he gets popped literally every time he goes over it, but every time she says 'over!' he races up to jump just as cheerful as ever, even though he knows he's going to get popped on the way down. He's a machine.

Even when she gives him two conflicting commands at once, he still tries one, even though she corrects because he 'chose wrong.' The next time she gives two commands at once, he still tries. (And yes, our trainer gets on her case about it, and she is getting better.)

Most dogs I've known wouldn't tolerate such shenanigans. He's just so cheerful about it.
