Can snails... Ummm reproduce on their own?

Cause I had one snail... Now I seem to have tiny end of pencil tip sized snails?

What kind of snails? Most can reproduce asexually, yup, except mystery snails.

My bet is on the plant. More often than not plants have hitchhikers.

Another of Sushi, he's so cool and Loves this plant!! I can't imagine having him in a smaller tank, he covers a lot of ground in the tank, I am getting him a Betta log because he seems to like it under the bridge sometimes and I know the prefer higher in the tank...

I honestly really like having snails in my tank. Sometimes they can get a bit out of control but usually if I cut the food back or smoosh some they get back under control. They are great for helping keep the tank clean.

Totally agree! Whenever people bettas "don't move around much" I always want ask "are you keeping it in a vase where it can't even flick its tail without hitting glass? Because that may have something to do with it." He's beautiful by the way!

And usually it's pond snails that dump out babies like that, and the snail you bought isn't a pond snail (no one buys pond snails lol). So likely a plant had eggs on it or something.

that was kinda funny. Totally agree though, when I had a bunch of scum on the glass I bought algae eaters, fat lot of good they did, and they crap non-stop lol (I love them though!!). Now the ramshorn snails, they took care of that scum like professionals, just cruised right through it and it was gone overnight.

Don't snails eat live plants though?

Some eg apple snails do. But many only eat squishy stuff like algae and dead matter and boiled zucchini, and some (assassin snails!!) eat other snails.

So you just drop boiled zucchini in there? it doesn't mess with the water quality?

They should only eat plants if the plant is sick or dying.

Well, you don't just drop a week's worth in there. You put a little chunk, the algae eaters and snails feast for some hours, then you remove the leftovers and then you don't feed them again for a long while. Sometimes I've left it in for over a day but that's a no-no.

And now that you mention it, the only tank I feed zucchini in is my dirty neglected tank filled with detritus, snails, a few fish, shrimp, ugly plants, yellowy water that I sometimes let get too low and it ALWAYS has great water quality with only a dinky sponge filter. My nice tank will sometimes crash and burn for no good reason. I think I'm going to put a sponge filter in that tank and get rid of the tetra whisper filter.

Yeah, sometimes people see the snails at holes in the leaves and think the snails made holes, but usually it's just the plant deteriorating and the snails are cleaning up the dead stuff... like maggots!
