This! I'm going to my first movie by myself tomorrow, I've planned it, LOL. I really wanna see Silver Linings Playbook and all my friends have already seen it, and I have a gift card. My uncle does it all the time, a few friends have told me they've done it, so now I don't feel so weird about it. Plus I feel like at a movie it's not like you're talking to friends during it anyway. But out to dinner? I think I'd be really bored, and feel awkward.
I loved that movie! I didn't watch it on the big screen (used my computer at home instead LOL) but it's such a great movie. Plus, it doesn't hurt that I have a giant girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence.
But yeah, I feel the same way about movie theaters and restaurants. Movie theaters are dark and it's practically impossible for any attention to be drawn to you. You just focus solely on the movie, it doesn't really matter if there's a friend sitting next to you or not. On the other hand, when I'm at a restaurant, I don't just hone in on my food and forget everything else around me. I enjoy going out to eat for the food, and for the opportunity to socialize with friends. Whether it's breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, I definitely would feel extremely self conscious about being alone at a restaurant. Even at home, I need to be doing something while I'm eating.
I typically don't even do it at places like Subway, etc, because I'll either have Jackson in the car with me, or just pick it up to bring it home because he has to be let out, lol.
Oh yeah, I've never actually eaten by myself at a Subway because the one I go to is within walking distance from my house. Whenever I go there to grab lunch, I always have Trent with me, so I just bring it home or eat at one of their tables outside and share with him. I also can't remember the last time I actually ate inside a Mcdonald's or Dairy Queen's because it's always a "swing by with a friend for a snack" thing.
Cafes and coffee shops are the same, if I'm getting food I'll always end up sitting outside at a table with Trent. But I don't really have any reservations about scarfing down a sandwich at Subway's by myself, either.
