I suspect there have probably been a number of threads like this before, so I apologize for that, but I'm always really interested to see other peoples name lists (I'm not the only one who keeps an ever-growing list of names, just cause, am I??).

I like unique but classy names (as in not just really silly unique). I'm really happy with Yarrow's name, and might have chosen something a bit more unusual than Jasper if I had to do it over again.

Here are some from my list, in no order and not sorted by gender...

Mythra
Ember
Ayla
Wicca
Seneca
Faelan
Sequoia
Griffin
Fire
Surreal
Kestrel
Onyx
Lyric
Wren
Fenyx

......this may or may not have to do with possible futurepuppy who, though at least a year away, is much in my thoughts these days!

People on here seemed NUTS to me about not posting future names they picked in case someone "stole" it... but then last time we had this thread Taqroy wrote that Tipper was almost called Trillian, and that's the name I have picked for next female dog, so apparently not that crazy (although I think we both picked the name without ever reading it on this forum) :p I'll share mine anyway:

Trout
Trillian
Chelsea Dagger
Cowboy
Calcifer
Cinncinatus C.
Moss
Laska
Soap MacTavish
Livingston
Ursula
Timequake

I've got a puppy on the way as well, planned for 2014.

The name that I'm giving her as of right now, but may change: Brimstone. I just love the meaning behind it, and I think it could be a really cool fit for a red ACD. If she comes blue, I will save the name for another. Lol

Others I've considered and like:
Teller, inspired by Sons of Anarchy
Gah, I've got tons more... But apparently they are lost at this moment in my brain.

I may come back to this. Lol.

Right, I thought about that, but really, if someone likes one of "my" names and wants to use it, I don't really have a problem with that! I mean maybe if we were friends in real life it would be an issue if I also named my dog that, but it doesn't bother me if someone has a dog named the same as mine somewhere far away...I'm sure there are lots of them anyway that I just don't know about!

I don't usually pick names out before I meet the dog. But with god as my witness, someday I will have a dog named Fig! and a dog named Toast.

ETA: And also possibly a Dibs.

I knew a dog named toast:) My friend who runs a refuge has some of my favorite names but darn it, I could never use them now lol.

On stealing names....well, there are always going to be others with the same name IMO. Even the most unique name probably someone has thought of before lol.....though I do wonder if there are any other Qcumbers out there

I don't have a big list just yet and I'm not sure where I put the list I had started...

I know if I ever get a female Xolo I'm going to name her Xibalba (she ball buh), but call her Xiba (She-Buh) for short. Xibalba is known as the underworld or realm of the dead. If I'm remembering correctly, in Aztec culture the Xolo (or Colima Dog as they were known back then) would be buried with the dead as a guide into the underworld or paradise.

I've been going back and forth on so many different names for when I eventually get my bengal cat. I really want him to have a unique and exotic name. Will for sure more than likely be getting a boy.

I love all of these. HAHA I'm bad at coming up with names. When I get my bengal I might have to have you name him for me lol.

I don't pick out names until I grow to know the animal, but I love unique names that have meaning to them. Ma'ii (pronounced muh-ee) was named after the Navajo coyote spirit, since his personality and being is right on par with the coyote in Native American folklore; mischievous, manipulative and deceptive, and too smart for his own good.

Django is the top pick I have on my list right now... mainly after watching the movie Django Unchained.

I love all of those names, but I LOVE Zephyr and Saffron

Quinn was named after the cutting horse Quintan Blue. I've heard of other Quinns though it is pretty uncommon - I think the meaning is quite unique though. For her little bro (whenever he comes around) I'm hoping to stick to the theme and name him after a stallion called Gallo Del Cielo - "Rooster". I have some back ups if that doesn't suit him, but I reallyyyy hope it does.

I'm very bad at coming up with names. Either I see the animal (and/or "know" it ahead of time) and I immediately think of something, or I can't think of anything for a few days, the animal is called a generic name, and I'll finally settle on a name that I don't hate or particularly care for, and then that name ends up being a great fit.

That being said, I don't keep a lot of names on hand that I WANT to name a dog. I have some names I like (and when I'm stuck for a name, I often cycle through my books/movies/animes/etc. to come up with something), but those often aren't what I end up naming the animal.

After considering Future Puppy, I'm going to be tempted to name him Abram. (Yes, like the tank.) If the name fits him when he comes home, it will likely stick. Unless I think of something better. lol

At this point I've decided to just wait until I meet the dog lol
I had a list a mile long when I was waiting for Merlin for girl/boy names.
Merlin was not on that list. But I knew I wanted either a magical, literary or an astrological themed name.

I am glad I decided on Merlin because he is SUCH a Merlin! :rofl1:

This forum actually was a huge part of why I decided on Merlin. I suggested it and it just..felt right lol my future puppy thread felt like such a group effort that when everyone else loved it too I was sold!

But a few that were on the list..

- Pyxis (it's a small pretty constellation)
- Hubble
- Apollo
- Fitzgerald
- Elara (which is one of Jupiter's moons)
- Pan
- Nix ( one of pluto's moons)
- Potter
- Nova
- Aurora (Rory)
- Borealis (Bo)

Just so you know, there are so so many dogs named Lyric/Lyra. It's pretty amazing actually lol. I know quite a few Embers too, and have met at least half a dozen Fires.

Oooh that's a good idea. I think Jax or Jackson would be pretty high on my list but I'm afraid people would think I named my dog after Michael Jackson. :D Gemma is on my short list too.

If I end up with a blue female ACD I'm 99% sure she will be Indigo/Indy.

Otherwise...it would really depend on the dog for me. I do love that name Wren off your list though! That's very pretty.

Well I just watched Fahrenheit 451 for the first time so I currently desire a Dalmatian named Montag, but I'm sure that will fade eventually. I did finally pick a female name I like, Ziva (yeah, NCIS). And I like Colby and Cisco for boys. But I don't think I'll really pick out a name ahead of time.

Mike wants another small black mutt dog (or he said brown would work, too, I think) so he can name it Ember. So then he can have a Cynder and an Ember. Although then I suppose we'd have to spell it Eymber. LOL
