Not your own dogs, just out and about. :p

I seriously remember running into two the entire time I was in Texas. I remember because it was a big deal at the time. Both mals. One confo bred dog I was in a tricks class with and one working bred dog that went to the lake I would take the girls too.

Now, I see them often. Like... 4 days a week at least. Makes some sense because the head trainer at the agility place has one, many students have them, and one of the students breeds them. They must be one of the most popular breeds at this training club. I also found another breeder in the town. But they all breed tervs. I run into all 3 varieties now, although the black dogs the least and tervs the most.

I ask this because I went to petco and ran into a terv. Then driving back saw a malinois walking. I didn't know either of them.

Then again I ran into a briard at petco too once so...

Has the breed exploded in popularity recently?

There are three of them (1 Mal, 1 Terv, 1 Groen) that frequent the dog park we go to, but other than those three dogs, I only ever see Belgians in different dog classes I take. They're either participating in class or are the trainer's dogs. And most of them are Tervs.

I'm glad I don't see more, cause everytime I see one and watch one I desperately want one. I don't know what's wrong with me haha.

Never. I have never seen a Groen or a Terv in real life, and the only time I have seen a Mal is during police demonstrations. Not popular at all where I live.

I see Mals fairly often - there are a couple local breeders that come to trials. I never see the fluffy Belgians outside of dog shows, though.

I see Mals pretty often. They are the sport breed du jour so there are quite a few out and about in the dog world (training or agility classes).. I usually hear them before I see them :rofl1:

I've known one Mal personally. I had a customer a few weeks ago with a Mal.

One of our regular customers has a Dutch shepherd (I know, not the same exact thing :) ) that is her service dog. Awesome, awesome dog.

In the last week I've seen 8 Groendaels, 2 Mals, and a Terv that I can think of off hand.

Then again I've also seen several Pyr Sheps and a Mudi so apparently my world is weird.

Other than Aeri, not often.

There's one (ONE!) in our IPO club, a malinois. I see him every other week or so.

I saw two, one Groen and one Terv, at the obedience show and go this past weekend.

At agility trials I usually see 2 or 3. A friend has several tervs but I don't see her often.

The answer is yes and one can look at rescue to see that.

I see them a good amount. I train with several and have a few clients with them, plus at sporting events they're all over.

I do not see laeks nor groens as much as tervs and mals.

Send them all my way! I have never met a mudi and have only met one pyr shep. Wonder if there will be any more at the AKC nationals...

In my entire lifetime, I've seen a few Mal police dogs at demos,
a mal at a frisbee competition,
a mal at the beach,
and I'm 90% sure a rescue dog that came into daycare was a mal. His ears flopped down at the corners, but his face/body was all mal and he never. stopped. moving.

I don't ever recall seeing a terv or groendael in real life.

Tervs are pretty common as sport dogs here. We did agility with 3 this summer. Once I met a dog Denise Fenzi bred at an obedience trial!

Other than that though, a friend of mine ended up with a Mal/Terv cross. That's just a disaster all around.

Other than mine, I see a Mal and a Groen at daycare, and then the occasional sighting at classes, trials, and events. I once saw a cop STARING at me while I was walking Blossom, and then he smiled, and I realized he must have been like, "Is that girl really walking a Mal through a Chicago city park?" LOL

Mals have exploded in popularity and are pouring into rescue at a disturbing rate. ABMC rescue is like constantly buzzing.

AFAIK the other varieties are not suffering from the same issue.
