Long story short: we had to cancel EVERYTHING we've booked for Peru.

We're going to Hawaii now, though, which I'm SUPER excited about.

Long version:

Our airline had an issue with our payment method (apparently thought it was fraudulent), and instead of calling us about it, they sent an email.

The email ended up getting buried in my husband's spam folder, and we didn't see it until a few day ago. The flights we wanted are gone, and we would've had to add a flight to Miami, and take a flight we didn't want from Miami to Peru. It also would've been twice the price for longer flights and more frustration.

We chalked it up to not being meant to happen.

After planning a super complicated vacation, we wanted to do something more relaxed and simple.

So... we decided to rent a house near Kona on the big island of Hawaii. The house has a private pool, a hot tub, and a view of the ocean. It's amazing looking.

I'm super excited and a little relieved to have something more relaxing to look forward to. We're going to do Peru next year since we have it all planned out.

well the way I see it things happen for a reason. And this way this trip will be more relaxing, and hopefully the trip to Peru will be a lot less stressful since you pretty much have it planned out :)

Plus the place you are staying sounds Heavenly.

Sorry Peru got bunked! That's a crappy thing to happen. But, there's always next year. :) And HAWAII! Still just as jealous.

Warm beach? Bummer! :p sounds like its all working out for the best.
Hahaha definitely. Oh no, you have to go to HAWAII instead!

Not the same of course, but I bet you could find some really awesome trails and stuff to hike in Hawaii as well. Googling quickly turned up this:

SEA TURTLES

That is my dream vacation... going to Hawaii and hiking around, looking at all the beaches, coming up on waterfall pools... ahhhh.

I don't know how full your itinerary is... but if you have time, they have manta ray night dives in Kona, which is not something you can do any where else in the US (or even in the other neighbor islands of Hawaii). I've never been (I DESPERATELY WANT TO), but I've had several friends who did do it and they say that it's an absolutely incredible experience. They drop you off in the middle of the ocean (with a guide+group), either with snorkels or SCUBA, and these enormous beasts just slowly fly by you as they feed on plankton, not caring that you exist. :D

Well, I'm sorry your plans got debunked.

However, Hawaii should be amazing. My brother went there for vacation once.... He liked it so much the only time he came back was to be at the closing for selling his house here!

That's frustrating! You're handling it much better than I would though!

Funnily enough, we were looking into Peru for the summer, and I think we may end up in Kona instead. We're already visiting Santa Barbara for a high school friend's wedding in July, so we figured we might as well just add on the extra flight--it only adds a couple hundred dollars to the itinerary. You are our vacation dopplegangers!

That's too funny! I'm a little jealous of how short your flight is going to be- we have a stopover in LAX. The majority of our flight will be spent going from Orlando to LA, and then sitting at the airport in LA for a couple of hours! It ends up at about 13 hours total!

If you do end up doing Peru, let me know. I'd consider myself a pro at this point with itineraries (flights, trains, towns, etc). We also ordered a couple of guide books and I'll send them your way if you do it! It was a relatively complicated trip to book, which is what frustrates me the most :( It makes me feel better knowing that it wasn't meant to be, and we'll have the easiest trip ever to book next year :D

Hawaii will be awesome, though. We're definitely going to do the night manta ray snorkel, a day at Volcanoes National Park, a day in the rainforest, a coffee plantation tour in Kona, and the rest of the time will probably be spent on the various beaches (green sand, black sand, exploring tide pools, etc.). Stargazing at Mauna Kea looks amazing as well- it's a 13,796ft tall mountain. You can either rent a 4x4 to get up there, or take a tour to the top.
