Yes I find certain types of toilet paper (to figure :/) make me quite irritated down there. Also I can't use condoms with spermicide lube & for the uh ... Personal lube I have to use the gentle water based kind.

Also I don't ever uh "get kinky" in the bedroom with like honey, chocolate, fruit (you get it) because the sugar content in it can upset that PH balance of your "V zone" & make it prone to things like yeast infections. (You'll have to pardon me, I read a lot lol) like I said it could be the most fickle thing.

Also if you use pads/tampons with a scent, that can also do it (at least it does for me)

You could try taking an antihistamine and see if that helps.

About the price thing as well, the state health clinics around here have a set fee. Of course they just upped it, but it was $50 each time you came in no matter what you had done. Now it's $75 plus $25 if you have any blood/urine labs done.

I bring this up bc both regular doctors AND pp itemize their bills. They may be cheaper for routine check ups, but for things that require different labs and screening, it might not. So I would also call the town health center and find out their fee. I recently needed a full work up with titers and updated vax, the set fee thing REALLY saved me some $.

We don't have insurance and we just pay per visit. I don't go to any free or reduced pay clinic type places. I actually go to some of the better offices in our area for our dentist, my gyno, and our family doc, etc. my yearly exam is a little over $100. The other day I was having some weird, female related pains so I went in and had a pelvic exam and the total cost of the visit was $73. Chloe's well child check ups are like $60-$100 depending on vaccinations and a sick appointment at our family doc is $65. We have no plans to get insurance any time soon. I REALLY think you are looking at like $75-$100 depending on what doc office you go to.

Actual Gyno might be a bit more, but I don't think you'd even hit a thousand. Maybe $300-$700 range? Depending on how highly they think of themselves, I guess. Everything over that I would assume is a specialist-in-house.
This is crazy to me! I go to an actual gyno, at a nice office and my yearly exam with pap is $120!! My visit to discuss some weird symptoms and just have a pelvic done was $73. We rarely pay over $100 for any type of doc visit.

On the PP suggestion - I would highly recommend you call your regular doctor/gyno (whoever you were seeing before) and ask how much it would be, then call PP and ask how much it would be. I was without insurance for three months, and of course my depo injection fell in that three months. I called my doctor and they told me how much getting the shot would be, then transferred me to the pharmacy so I could ask how much the injection itself was (it is over $50 without Rx insurance.) I called PP and asked them how much it would be. Without the price of the shot itself included, they were OVER twice what it was going to be TOTAL at my regular doctor.

Just call and check how much the exam fees will be before you go. I was REALLY surprised it was going to be that expensive at PP.
I second this. I don't see why what you are going for would even cost near $200. Check PP and check several other gynos who are accepting new patients.

If you don't want to do all that work with the glove - you can just use a tampon applicator. Fill it with yogurt and squirt it in.

The only times I had a yeast infection (twice), I used yogurt and it killed it right off, never went to the dr for them.
sweet. thank you.

I know this is going to sound weird but do you think it's possible that you are having some kind of allergic reaction to something you are using? (Soap, powder & even some intimate lubricant as well as the lube from some condom brands ... Even toilet paper.).

I am sorry if this sounds intrusive lol, but sometimes it's the hung you'd never thought it'd be.
Not a whole lot has changed really. The soap I use is a soap that my friend made. There aren't any perfumes in it at all... it's a simple lye soap. I've been using the same soap for months. I don't use lube all the time and there's only one kind we always buy. I'm a bit of a creature of habit so I don't branch out much in the trying different lubes department. Now toilet paper... we usually just buy whatever seems more affordable. I don't think we buy the same brand every time.

DD has a very good point! Have you changed anything you put on or in your body recently?

I know that people can be allergic to things that would cause swelling and pain in that area: latex (condoms), preservatives in lube/spermacides, even sperm itself!
curious... is it possible to be allergic to one person's sperm and not another person's? I've never had issues in the past, but I have noticed that ever since I've been with Josh I've had irritation in that area periodically and a lot of the time it's after sex. He tested clean of STDs so don't think it's that. I do wonder though if it's possible to be allergic to one person's sperm and not another's.

Unfortunately my last gyno/regular doctor is in New Mexico. I haven't seen a dr at all since we moved from NM so I don't have a regular doctor or gyno established out here in VA.

I can't use spermicide on anything because it actually really irritates Josh. I think he's allergic to it because anytime we've used condoms with spermicide he has had a LOT of pain afterwards. We also don't do the chocolate, honey etc... we just don't lol. I get weird about the idea of having food down there lol.

Also with pads/tampons... I always buy unscented.

I'll definitely look into that too. Thank you. Also... where can I get an antihistamine? Just any store that has a pharmacy?

Yes you can be allergic to one persons sperm and not another. Its not a general "you're allergic to all sperm!" Thing.

Antihistamines are just allergy meds... benedryl, allegra, etc. You can usually get them at grocery stores or anywhere really.

Oh durr.... I don't know why I was thinking antihistamines were something completely different. I do have benedryl here because Cricket gets benedryl sometimes for her allergies.

If Josh takes any medication, it could be that you're allergic to that or a chemical reaction it has that effects his sperm.

Personal question (you don't even have to answer it, but something to consider), is Josh uncircumcised? It's uncommon, but I have heard one woman say that she got frequent yeast infections from being with her uncircumcised husband (and never had that issue with an uncircumcised man).

Also, didn't you frequently change your diet pretty drastically? That could have an effect, but probably more of something your body needs to get used to than an actual problem with the diet.

To MM's point - men and women CAN exchange yeast infections back and forth (and regardless of the circumcision status of the man). If you have a yeast infection, you may want to talk to the doctor about meds for Josh as well.

The only medication he takes is levothyroxine which he takes daily for a thyroid condition. He also is circumcised.

The change in my diet is something a friend of mine mentioned to me as well. I didn't gradually switch to paleo... I literally went 100% paleo cold turkey.

That sounds like ring worm/athletes foot/jock itch to me. If not a yeast infection.
oh god I hope not ring worm.... that would give me the heebie jeebies

Just in case it is a yeast infection: cranberry juice. Drink it.
I love cranberry juice and can definitely drink some just in case...

oh definitely. I'm keeping Josh in the loop on everything. He hasn't noticed any pain or anything abnormal in his department, but I told him to let me know if he notices anything at all and I will definitely ask the dr about meds for him if it is a yeast infection.

I'm home today now. Started my period two days ago and of course it would be a super heavy one when I already have issues going on. I used to get really bad ones when I was a kid and would end up in the hospital for the first couple days. I'm anemic so when I have heavy periods I get really dizzy, shakey and in today's case, I pass out. I was supposed to work today, but now I'm staying home because Josh said he doesn't want me driving at ALL right now if I'm shaking and passing out. My landlord's wife is here and she told me to call her if I need anything and if I need her to take me to the hospital if it starts to feel really bad then she will take me. Laying in bed with the dogs and took some iron this morning as well as took some cayenne pills to help slow the flow and i'm taking shepherd's purse extract every hour or so which is supposed to help as well.

Ring worm is just a fungal infection, it's actually easy to treat. I say that because an entire fraternity back at school had it, they spread it by touching their junk and door knobs, shaking hands, so forth. It looks like red, puffy, sometimes dry skin, and can itch but is mostly a burning sore feeling. It's easy to spread and easy to treat. :)

The wrestling team in high school ALWAYS had ring worm, all of them.

It's way less skeevy than the name implies. I don't think it's any "grosser" than a yeast infection.

Wrestlers do get ringworm a lot, with all of the body contact. I've never seen it cause puffy skin, but to be fair, I've never seen it in a delicate area before. I would guess some sort of yeast issue if you've not changed detergents or something.

Hope you can get in to see someone tomorrow and get the issue cleared up!

I'm pretty sure cranberry juice can help for UTI, but it's no help for yeast infections

That's what I thought too.

I would say treat it like a yeast infection (if you can't afford or don't want to go to a doc in my case it would be both) I think one of the yeast infection treatment kits has a tester thinger that will tell you what you have. You could try that.

Actually...on the Paleo subject. Have you cheated recently and had something very sugary or carb-y? That can often set off the balance and cause yeast infections. Or nuts. When I went Atkins, I felt great for a few weeks. Tried to go into the next phase of adding nuts...and...uh, my body didn't react well to that.

Cranberry juice doesn't help with yeast infections or UTIs, unfortunately. And all the sugar in cranberry juice these days is probably more likely to cause more problems.

Hope you get it all figured out soon! You sound like you're having a pretty horrible week. :(
