Everyone has a different guess for what Codex is, and I'd like to see what the Chaz community thinks! I know for sure what her mother's breed is, but that leaves 50% to the imagination. I've included a few photos from the front and side, as well as a few of her litter mates. The two merles in the litter were much bigger than the rest of the pups and had shorter hair. The other pups were black/white and some had tan, all had longer hair. Personality-wise, Codex is intense, makes weird noises and she is quick to pick up new things.

Pictures!! :D

Really she could almost pass for a pure Border Collie.

I'm going to get ACD/BC or Aussie/Lab

Mine is an AussieXJackRussell lol

Since you know she's half Aussie, I'd assume the other half was a more dainty breed... so perhaps BC, or even ACD? I doubt my aunt's ACD is pure as he from a shelter, but the colouring on Codex's siblings is similar and Ozzy in particular has a relatively refined muzzle if you look at it from the side.

This is Ozzy:

She reminds me a lot of the Aussie/ACD mix I know. Maybe through in a bit of Border Collie and there you go!

I say Aussie/BC with maybe some JRT or similar terrier mixed in.

She and her sibs are too light boned to be Aussie/ACD imo since both breeds tend toward heavier bone and there is something about the structure of a few sibs that looks terrier-ish to me.

If you hadn't said she had an Aussie for a mom I would have sworn she was a purebred Border Collie. So now I say Border collie/Aussie lol.

Chalk me up as another who would have believed purebred BC.

That said it's possible there are multiple fathers. It's interesting that the two non-merle dogs seem to have very heavy ticking in the irish white but both merles have clean white.

You know that thought has crossed my mind as well of having multiple dads for the litter. I've asked for a DNA test for my birthday, just for fun. I'd like to see what breeds pop up in the mix.. probably Basset Hound and Basenji :p

I also forgot about one of the merle pups, she went to a family in Ohio and I'm not FB friends with her owners haha. She was also the same size as the other merles compared to the other pups. Dex is the only merle in the group that didn't have a nub tail.

The terrier guesses are interesting, that's one group of breeds I hadn't considered before, but I can see it. Usually I just say Aussie mix, or Aussie/BC mix, but I had one lady swear up and down she was an Australian Cattle Dog. I ask if she meant Australian Shepherd.. "no no, Cattle Dog". Eh, whacha gonna do. The BC people say she isn't mixed with BC, the Heeler people say she isn't mixed with Heeler. I've had people suggest some sighthound breeds, Collie, Lab and Houla as possible mixes too.

It's so interesting that you can find traits from all these breeds in her if you look closely. My guess is that mama dog met up with mixed breed dad from down the road and that is why the litter was surrendered.

And because it's full of cuteness, here is the group on their first leg of transport up to MN:

Thank you all for your guesses, I love to see what other people think she might be :D

I actually think the one that looks b/w and heavily ticked is a cryptic merle.
