Dogs and Mornings

Where in the magical doggy word did you all get your dogs? Gipsy was up at 5 or 6 in the morning. She had her tactics if you did not get up at the same time as she would.

First she'd sit next to the bed and watch you. If this did not wake you, she would put one paw on the bed and put her head on there as well and watch you some more. If he doggy breath did not wake you YET you were doomed. Full doggy dive.

Forget the dogs, I want a world where I have the chance to find out if my dogs would sleep until 11!

Meg probably would - she never wakes me up, or even stirs when the alarm goes off. She'll stay snoozing until I actually get out of bed.

Gusto is a work in progress. I get up at 5:20 for work, and have since I've owned him, so he grew up thinking that was wake-up time. He'd make it until 6 or so most weekends if I was off. He's gradually getting better; he'll pretty consistently sleep until 7 am now if I don't get up and he can't hear people moving around downstairs. Some days I try to get up, let him out, and then go back to bed with Meg, but I'm not good at sleeping in myself. Once I'm up, I'm up.

All three of mine are different.
Used to be Robyn and Trin went back to sleep and waited for me to let them out of the bedroom. But lately Robyn is going back to her early rising youth
She won't take no for an answer and keeps scratching at the door until I am wide awake.
Trin will only get up when I open the bedroom door, she'll sit silently forever if she has to.
Wassim is not a morning dog.
I think it's more likely he's not a cold weather dog so maybe when the weather heats up he'll be more active but right now he get's woken up by Robyn and makes a few brief appearances if something interesting sounds like it's going on, but always returns to bed until around 10:30 or 11.

I am really strict about very very few things but staying on the bed, not bothering me or getting up before I get up is one of them.

Didgie and Traveler both have slept in bed with me from their first nights here at 9 weeks old so they've learned really well. For the most part unless someone has an upset stomach or seriously has to pee they will wait until they know I'm awake and then Traveler will jump up and run to the door and Didgie will launch herself at my face and ooze all over me. And Traveler will start barking, jumping on me and running back to the door. I don't mind it because I'm one of those people that is instantly awake so I don't mind crazy in the morning.

But overall they are great, if I sleep till ten they'll sleep with me and not get up. They don't whine, or stare or pace (overall, there are days that are the exception) but I also am not typically a late sleeper. I get up around 8 normally naturally so it works out pretty well.

Kaylee, well Kaylee is the sleeper in of sleeper in. If I try and let her get up on her own time she won't make a peep until 3-4 pm (and she's gone later) :yikes: I don't know how she manages it, bladder of steel. But she's so nocturnal, she sleeps all day and gets going at night which is a pain. But very very rarely does she wake up, unless dragged out of bed before 12 pm.

Blaze gets up when I do. Whatever time it may be 6-8am. He let's me sleep.

Solo I literally have to push or drag off the bed. He hates waking up. And takes his sweet ass time to walk upstairs to go outside.

Marley the cat is who I could kill. 7ak with out fail she starts meowing and clawing our feet. She wants breakfast and is demanding lol. I sleep with a bottle of water beside my he'd and shale it at her. Keeps her at bay for another 15mins lol she despises water

I have to fight to sleep in till 6. Mia starts her wake up routine at about 5. She doesn't seem to understand the difference between week days and week ends. I try to get up around 5:30-6:00 weekdays.

Summer gets up when I do but will also get anxious if I sleep in past 8 or so.

Mia knows to stay on the bed though. She's knows she's not allowed off even if she is awake. When I say 'let's get up' though, she does a few laps around the house screeching.

After initial potty break/breakfast/run around like a lunatic time, they'll happily go back to sleep for a while. But still she will be whining and pacing when I don't get up after an hour or so. And she also hits me when she wants me to get up. I wake up very often to a papillon smack in the face.

Both dogs generally get up when we do... I always wake up at 6:15 on week days so it's not too big an issue anyways.

On weekends.. Cali is fine to sleep until maybe 9 or so, but as soon as she knows I'm slightly awake (even with the intention of going back to bed), she waddles on over to my pillow and attacks me with kisses and refuses to go back to sleep. She loves sleeping tucked under my arm though and half the time I even forget she's there, it's a wonder that she hasn't been squished.

Henry is a good sleeper, for which I'm grateful. I wake up at 5:40am for work, and he doesn't move a muscle. In fact, he usually takes my place in bed and snuggles up to my husband. About 6:30am he'll stagger out into the living room and ask for breakfast. Then he gets up on the couch and sleepily watches me finish getting ready. I take him out then leave about 7. He'll either continue sleeping on the couch or get back in bed with my husband, and just wake up whenever he does (his schedule is different every week).

On the rare weekends we get to sleep in he almost never gets up before we do. If we've been in bed for 12+ hours he might start stirring, but he'll lay back down or get in bed and cuddle if asked to.

Cara sleeps as long as I sleep, unless there is a potty emergency. She hasn't woken me up since she was around four months old.

Romeo gets up when I get up. Zoie too but she would prefer to stay in bed another few hours. Skye...I've been trying to encourage her to bark and jump around when the alarm goes off (I have a hard time waking up) so...we are getting there . If she really wants to go out and pee she will bark at me incessantly.

It's not by luck that my dogs are good about sleeping when I sleep. It's a rule in this house! lol. That's why Happy got the pillow tossed at her. Sorry, dog... I went a week with listening to her whine at 5am, and when it was apparent that ignoring it wasn't going to fix anything, I had to do something lol.

Seriously if that habit wouldn't have been so easy to break, she was going to have to sleep somewhere else then.

So now, if my dogs whine to get up before I do... they usually have a bladder that's about to explode, or wicked bad diarrhea

Frodo gets up whenever we do. If I have to be at work in the morning Frodo stays in bed while I shower and get ready, then I have to go get him to go potty.

That is one of the main things I am not looking forward to after this week. Puppies require midnight potty breaks :/

Both of my dogs are really great about sleeping in if my schedule is erratic. While I worked for TSE they were both horrendous about sleeping in because I was up at pretty much the same time every single day. Buzz is back to "normal" not and only needs to get up to pee.

Hudson is not a big believer in sleeping in. I might kill him. Anyone want a puppy?

This is pretty much Jackson.

So long as I let him out late enough (after midnight), he will actually sleep until past 11am with me (if I do, lol, usually I have to pee before that). But in general, he gets let out around 10pm and wakes up around 8am with me. When I have the early shift, and have to get up at 6:45, I am the one waking him up.

Cricket and Newton are morning dogs. They're polite about it won't wake you up (unless they really need to go out) when as soon as someone gets up, they're ready to get up and play. Journey, on the other hand, definitely is not a big fan of the morning - we share that viewpoint. She sleeps in as long as possible.

Both of our dogs will sleep in as late as I do. They don't get up when the boyfriend does (he gets up earlier).

All of my dogs wake up whenever I do. They'll sleep anywhere from like 6-12 hours. Once they suspect I'm awake, they're really happy and looking forward to breakfast, but they never wake me up. Even the puppy has slept through the night for 8+ hours since day one. Easiest puppy ever. Sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night though, I'll let her out if I want to sleep in later when I go back to bed. That way I don't feel guilty.

Harlow is one that you have to drag out of bed. Rider gets up when we get up. When I go to work, I leave the dogs in the bedroom, so they normally get up around 10, with a quick morning potty break around 9.
