Would you eat Cuy (Guinea Pig)?

I'd try it, but I'd probably try any sort of meat so long as it wasn't dog, cat, or horse. I don't like the taste of rabbit at all, but I do think duck and lamb are the best things, ever.

I would try it, the only thing I try not to eat is pig.

Ethically, I don't see how it's much different than eating rabbit or goat, which are kept both as pets and as food animals. Cavys were domesticated as food animals a long, long time ago.

I'm not sure I'd try it. I'm really picky about meat and don't like anything that's greasy, gamey or dark meat. I don't eat most pork because it's too meat-y tasting. Don't like dark meat chicken or turkey. Am weird about chicken wings because of the skin and how close the meat is to the bone. Fish smells too bad for me to eat. Definitely have some weirdness about food LOL I have tried goat though and it was pretty good. I once had lamb that was awesome, one of the best meals I have ever had. I thought it was beef at first or I probably would have been too weirded out to eat it. So sometimes it might be worth it to give it a go!

A friend of mine has been to Peru twice and ate Cuy and alpaca while there. She highly recommends alpaca steak (and she breeds/shows llamas and has alpacas)

And FWIW Pigs would totally eat humans. And sometimes they do :O

I had guinea pigs growing up and I had one that was my best friend as a child.. no way would I eat one!

Meat type pigs are about 4-5# & about half that at slaughter. I'd try it. Every rodent I've eaten has been delicious.

Your post caught my attention because I think I'd personally say almost the exact opposite! I'd be willing to try it myself as a cultural experience (the same way I was willing to try blood pudding when I was in Spain!), but I'd be tasting it knowing that it was part of someone else's culture, not mine. I voted "I'd try a bite of someone else's."

Feeding that sort of animal to my pets however, would probably feel a bit wrong to me though, just because I do view guinea pigs as companion animals and eating them in this area of the world isn't common. Granted, I am convinced I want a pet Jersey cow at some point, and I don't think that'll diminish my consumption of beef at all, so who knows.

The only meat I'm really opposed to trying is dog- everything else is fair game (no pun intended ).

I LOVE meat- I think it's amazing. lol. Venison, lamb, duck, squid... it's all good.

The only meat I've tried that I haven't liked is alligator. It was mainly a texture issue.

I also want to try alpaca while I'm in Peru. Once the alpacas are old, they're generally used for food- which I think is awesome.

My parents exposed me to a ton of different foods from the time I could eat. It's funny, because I'd eat guinea pig in an instant... but I'm afraid of things like meatloaf.

Sure, I'd try it. I haven't tried a ton of things as I don't come across the opportunity much. I've had alligator and frog legs, both were fine. I like lamb and don't like venison much. I don't eat much red meat though..I won't go out my way to avoid it but I won't ever order a hamburger or a steak.

I'd try anything once...except seafood . Actually the only seafood I like is fried calamari.

I'm finicky when it comes to meat. I rarely eat red meat, mostly chicken, turkey or fish. (Lord help me if i ever have a chicken or turkey as a pet) I don't eat lamb, rabbit or goat. So no, I wouldn't eat guinea pigs, I wouldn't condemn others who did.

Yep I would. I love trying local foods.

If I was immersed in the culture (traveling etc..) or offered it at someones home then yes, I would. I like to try and experience as much as I can when I travel (including different foods) and to be polite, of course I would if it was offered in someones home.

But it certainly isn't something I would order at a restaurant just because.

Yep, pretty much how I feel. I don't judge anyone for trying it at a restaurant though. I will admit that I ate dog once in China. I lived in an extremely poor area and was invited to an old woman's house. She had very little money and had bought dog meat because it was winter and it is supposed to help keep you healthy. I had just been released from the hospital and it was a very touching thing that she had spent money that she really didn't have. I didn't think I could refuse.Generally speaking though, the majority of young people I met thought eating dog was a very backwards thing to do so it is pretty rapidly disappearing. (Just to quell the myth that everyone there eats dogs.)

As a rule I don't eat anything with its head still attached, so if it was served like that it would be a no-go for me. I would try it if presented in a "normal" (headless) manner though.

I might try a bite or two just to say that I have, but having had a guinea pig as a kid, it kind of weirds me out. Same with rabbit--I hear it's delicious, but I raised a bunch of rabbits as a kid.

One of my friends took her family to Peru for a month. They ordered some while they were there. It was served head on, flayed, splayed out, and barbecued.

The kids were traumatized and refused to touch it. She and her husband both at ALL THE CUY and said it's one of the most delicious things they've had. Sort of like rabbit, only more delicately flavored. Based on her review I'd totally order it.

While I don't think I would order dog meat, I would eat it in a situation like that.

I've eaten other animals with the heads still attached. doesn't bother me at all. Actually the best fish I EVER had had the head attached and huge fangs. I have no idea what kind of fish it was either.

I love most food though. As long as it's not raw tomatoes or olives, I'm pretty much good.
