Unless there is a medical reason not to, any child of mine will be given their immunizations. Herd immunity, I'm not falling into that.

but really, what somebody else does with their kid isn't an issue of mine.

ETA: ftr, I'm not just parroting that off. I've had one too many relatives lose a child too young due to something that "kids never get nowadays!" so they felt no need to vaccinate.

Hannah got all her immunizations (except flu vaccines. she can't even get those anyway because of her egg allergy). We just felt that was what we were most comfortable with.

I'll be following a delayed/selective schedule probably following Dr Sears guidelines as I really like his take on things. He has a whole book on the subject that ill be studying soon!

I'll be getting my child most of the vaccines recommended for infants/babies.

I think people need to do their research and make the choices on an individual basis, instead of what the doctor recommends across the board. I think most of the vaccines out these days are safe, but shots like guardasil....I'm amazed at how it's still given/pushed. I will NOT be getting my 9 year old the guardasil vaccine, and even if it WAS safe, the political agendas associated with it absolutely disgust me.

Flu shot...eh, I think it's safe, but useless for the most part. Probably wouldn't get it for my child.

This.
I hear way too much of "Why should I vaccinate? kids don't get that anymore!"
wanna know why kids don't get it? because they are vaccinated.
People stop doing it.. it'll become an issue.

I will vaccinate my kid for all potentially life threatening issues. period. (when it comes to vaccinations that have been proven safe. Not new ones.. those require some research and digging IMO)

Same policy I have for my pets frankly. There are risks with all vaccinations.. but the risks in comparison to say, parvo itself, are not that big of a deal.

If I ever have children... I will definitely vaccinate to some degree. I'm sure by the time it might happen, there'll have been a lot of changes so I'll just say that for now. Yes, I would vaccinate my child(ren).

We do vaccinate. We do a delayed schedule, though. He did not get a flu shot, though. And we were on the fence about the chicken pox vaccine, but then he ended up getting some variation of it and has immunity to the virus now. So it was a nonissue. Too many illnesses are starting to reappear for me to feel comfortable with doing none at all.

I do minimal vaccines with my dogs, but even then I do their puppy series...so why wouldn't I do the same for my kiddo:p

Do you vaccinate your children every year though? That is my issue with pets vaccinations, most have been proven to be good for many years, yet vets push them yearly, why? I do titters on my pets.

As for my child, he is fully vaccinated, and never had anything, except appendicitis, lol.

I seriously wonder what kind of doctors people are going to that they suggest vaccinating every year.

We get baby vaccines, different vaccines around 3, some boosters at 6, and then 10-12 you get one at school, and then at 16 you get one more.

My son got his first set of vaccines, at the time I was on the fence. He had a reaction, broke out in a rash and cried/screamed a lot, took him to a doctor who said 'it has nothing to do with vaccines, they are totally safe. Give him tylenol and keep vaccinating'.

That was the last vaccine the kids got. Really, if the medical system is going to be dishonest about the whole thing, and there aren't a lot of options as far as easily getting modified vaccine schedules, then not interested. For some things, like whooping cough, my guys are too old for it to be a 'risk' anyway, for others I don't agree with giving them at all.

Both kids are healthy, minimal ear infections and other issues. Compared to some kids I know that always have ear infections and are on meds - yet doctors won't usually suggest trying a dairy free diet to see if that helps (often dairy causes swelling in the body, not enough to notice per say but enough to block the tubes and create ear infection issues). And hearing things like kids who got the chicken pox vaccine, and then RE vaccinated for chicken pox not once but in some cases three times, or having a 'weak immune system' so going for monthly vaccines like 12 in a year, gotta wonder what the medical system is thinking there.

We get the odd 'your children are due' calls and I just say 'they're allergic so not going there' and they say 'thanks'.

In my own family, every niece/nephew has been vaccinated and every one has asthma, allergies and ear infections - not like a one time thing but when they've been under 4 living on daily medication(s). So having two kids that do not have those issues I think we're doing ok.

What always kills me, same as dogs, is the people who find out my kid isn't vaccinated and panic because it'll make their vaccinated kid sick somehow....

Same here. Mind you, Clive just got a few at age 2 as he was behind. He got off schedule because he got a cold around the time of his boosters each time and I did not want to vaccinate when he was under the weather. But he's good now for quite some time.

I love Hannahs doctor. She was totally supportive of any vaccination decisions we made and she even brought it up at our first check up and asked what we had planned for her vaccinations. We decided to go on schedule but she made it clear that if we wanted to delay that was absolutely fine with her.

But if we are going to compare health between kids who were vax'd abd kids who weren't... SIL didn't do vax with her son and he has autism and Hannah was fully vax'd (sorry too lazy to type it out lol) and she is quite healthy. So I don't really think "my kid is vaccinated and healthy and your kid wasn't and is sickly and vice versa" really means anything anymore. Way too many variables. It's like saying "my kid was or wasn't breast fed and is great and your kid who was or wasn't breastfed is sickly"

Gotta agree on that point. There are far far far far too many genetic, environmental and just unknown variables to try the "Well my kid is vaccinated and _____ or my kid is not and _______"

As for the autism thing..scientists have proved again and again that vaccination doesn't cause autism. Yet..the myth spreads like wild fire thanks to idiot celebs like Donald Trump that perpetuate it.

Sources.

Peer reviewed if anyone cares that much http://www.iom.edu/Reports/2004/Immunization-Safety-Review-Vaccines-and-Autism.aspx

Too many variables with kids and genetics and environmental factors to try to force too many things on something as seemingly small as vaccinations without scientific proof and controls and tests IMO especially with singular examples like your kid or neighbor etc..

Of course the field of health is ever changing, ever evolving and learning and there are risks and side-effects.. but I don't think the solution is to chance it and jump back into the age of not vaccinating at all.

I don't have any kids and as always, as long as the kids are well taken care of and the choice is well researched (and not forced upon parents by either side), I support parents to choose to do whatever really.
But certainly don't blame schools for requiring certain vaccinations.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm on the fence, I guess. I don't believe everything ever needs to be given to kids. I'm not on the whole, VACCINATE EVERYTHING WITH EVERYTHING train.
But I don't necessarily believe all vaccines shouldn't be given, either. Nor do I believe any certain place (schools, work places, etc) should FORCE you to get a vaccination. It should be an individual choice, or up to the parent for those underage.

As far as the autism thing....more people are beginning to believe it is actually ultrasounds these days, considering small scale tests and what it does to cell structure. Will we ever have a definite answer? Who knows.

But, again, I don't feel like all vaccinations are completely safe, either. Depends on the kid, depends on the vaccine, depends on the situation, I guess. It is all situational, so I really believe it should be choice.

I am stunned by how many people aren't aware that the autism and bowel disease connection to the mmr vaccine was a fraudulent study. I'm even more stunned when they are told that it was fraudulent and they continue to make excuses as to why they support it.

I don't have or want children, but I support vaccinating them appropriately. I've never really heard a good argument that made complete sense for not vaccinating your kids ever.
