We dont talk about feeding puppies and cats because theyre not a prey animal. If it had been rabbits Im sure someone whould have suggested feeding them to the dogs.

But there is a difference between feeding a dog and a rat. A rat is a prey animal. A dog is not.

Not that I think one is less than the other, I know rat people get very bonded to their rats.

Also, not saying I agree with feeding the rats to a snake.
Some countries do eat dogs, so it's not entirely unfounded :lol-sign:

Okay, so maybe for a better example, I don't think a horse owner would be thrilled with the suggestion for feeding their horses to a tiger.

I think that once they are a pet it doesn't really matter if in the wild they are a prey animal or not I still think it's sick that people are pushing the 'feed these pets to another animal' after being told that isn't an option the OP even wants to consider.

There are countries that dogs are raised as food animals.
People eat dogs here. Its just not as common. And as long as theyre beig treated humanely, I dont care actually. I wouldnt and couldnt do it, but its a different cultural norm.

Still doesn't mean people just be saying 'they're just rats feed them to another animal'.

40 is WAAAAAY too many. But we don't talk about taking puppies from hoarding situations and donating them to zoos for food for their animals. I don't care if you don't like them. These rats are PETS and I think it's disgusting that people kept pushing that idea when the OP made it obvious that is NOT an option in their opinion.
For the somewhat off topic discussion, I would be all for utilizing to-be-euthanized shelter dogs as food for something. Preferably already killed, though.

I wouldn't. I think the expenses to make sure the animal was clean enough to be used as a safe food source would end up costing more than putting the animal down.

And using animals known as food doesn't really bug me. What's bugging me is the OP has said these are pets, they are cared for, and she doesn't want them to be food. And instead of moving on to other options *there are a lot* people are coming on admitting they aren't rodent people and telling her to get over it and feed them to other animals.

So... How about giving those rats up to a rescue? Rescues have networks, savings, back up plans, and vet accounts. You got in over your head, there is no shame in handing the animals over. If they won't take the "lost causes", which is reasonable if they are cancer ridden and aggressive, then hand over every single adoptable and focus your finances and effort on those who're unadoptable while the others have a fighting chance with someone else. Take some of the weight off your shoulders.
I HAVE. I stated that in my original post.

Right. There's a big difference between suggesting homeless dogs kept in a big kennel at a kill-shelter be used as a food source, and telling someone who is having trouble financially handling their sick animals - fosters or personal pets, to euthanize them and feed them to someone.

Bre - have you contacted other rat rescues past the ones who already took in some of the rats and can't take more?

Or, now that some resources for transport have been posted, maybe try contacting further rescues and see if they have openings and could get some ratties transported there? I'm sure even without other forums, if you found an out-of-state rescue that could take multiple rats, chazzers would step up and do transport.

So all the animals you currently have are unacceptable by rescues? How about humane societies? No need to get frustrated with me, I read the post and didn't see that, I'm merely suggesting you seek a rescues assistance.
I'm not surrendering my rats to animal shelters. They don't know anything more about them than pet stores do. I have contacted quite literally every rescue in my area. One rescue took a litter, and another rescue took quite a few and really helped me, but her house flooded and continues to flood so she cannot take anymore. She is also the one that connected me with the vet willing to give me great prices.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not feeding these PETS to another animal. Dogs, cats, rats, who gives a **** - I won't and I'm sure ANY rodent rescue or enthusiast would never do that, either. No matter WHAT the circumstances. Would you like to imagine your pet getting it's head smacked on something, going limp and then having it's dead body being slowly swallowed? I, personally, don't. I don't quite understand why is this even still a subject of this discussion? Or why this thread has turned into an argument over whether the mods decisions were justified or not. This is stupid. If I could delete this thread, I would do it myself. I'm done being called a hoarder, which I am NOT, I have worked my ASS off for 4 years to give these animals tip top care. Now that I lost my job I'm a hoarder? OK. Rats have 10-25 babies in a litter which is how I ended up with so many when I rescued mamas, I didn't take in 40 rats individually.
I'm done here. If anybody has any further useful suggestions, send them to my PM box please.

Happy arguing.

I fed my horse to a local hunts dogs.

Circle of life. I felt much better about my horse nourishing another animal than rotting in the ground.

But that's not something everyone can do and especially in a situation where the pet was not old and didn't die naturally.

I'm in WA and can help with any transport should the need arise.

I'd really stay in the thread. There are people here who are willing to help and it would be easiest for everyone if all the information is in one place.

Honestly... it makes me sad that SS was banned. Sure, he's made a few douchey comments to me. But he's real, and well informed, and he's A DUDE! I can't imagine how you live in this world and function still, if SS's comments are that offensive to you. Guys are generally bunt and crude. My boyfriend would be banned instantly.

As far as my opinion regarding the situation at hand... I've known OP on this forum and another for years. She has been caught telling ridiculous lies, lying about owning dogs, going through dozens of dogs, and I generally don't believe a word that she says due to that long history of lies. If this story is true, I hope that she can find a proper rescue to take those animals in, get a job and maybe help foster a few? This just isn't doable for one person who is unemployed and can't find any adopters.

Yes, please bring up Pet Talk, when I was 10-12 years old and made a million accounts to get attention because I got none at home. Yes, please, continue refusing to let me live that down. You're ridiculous.
Mastiff10 (HENCE THE 10)- I was TEN YEARS OLD and claimed to have Neapolitan Mastiffs and used the first pictures off Google. Does that not tell ya I was a little kid? And then when they banned me I said I was her sister just so I could continue posting on there because that forum was quite literally the only attention I got. More sad than deceiving, don'tcha think??
Do you want me to list the other 50 and apologize for each one? Seriously? I was a kid that wanted approval and I found it on a forum where other people loved dogs like I did. I have done NOTHING wrong on this forum. I have only claimed to have the pets that I DO HAVE and I have been COMPLETELY HONEST here. WTF is your problem.

I left my cat out in the desert, after he'd died, for the coyotes to eat.

That said I'm not suggesting the OP feed the rats to a snake, I think they belong with a qualified rescue who has a network, a bank account, and a vet acct.
