Two dogs maximum, and even then I'm not actually sure if that's what I really want. I've only ever had one (Trent) and have second thoughts about adding another all the time. Three is virtually out of the question unless the third is a Whippet.

3. 1 older dog still competing, under 7 years old. A up and coming competition dog....around 2-3 years. Then a puppy to get started.

Depends on the dogs I think.
Atm I am happy with my two but hopfully by mid next year I will have them both going well enough that adding a foster dog will be an option. (When I move out, to hell with adding anything else to this household)
I'd eventually like quite a few dogs but I have enough issues between my two to do as much training as my heart desires without adding another at this point.

The more the merrier but considering the vet bills, the food expense and the expenses for the classes, 3 would be ideal for me.

One for me personally.
but two in the home.
In the perfect situation, me and my significant other would each have a dog.

I like having one dog.. but I also like the idea of the dog having some other dog company when I'm not around, so it's the ideal situation.
Yes! This would be an ideal for me. I loooveedd when my moms dog was still alive - she helped 'raise' Jackson when he was a pup, and gave him lots of playtime and such in the house, but wasn't 'my' responsibility. If she had to go the vet, I wasn't expected to pay, I didn't feel guilty about leaving her at home if I took Jackson somewhere, or training classes, etc. But it was still sort of like having two dogs. Win win!

I grew up with at least 2 dogs always in the home. As an adult, I've only ever had one permanent dog, along with fosters.

I like having a pair of dogs for various reasons. Really looking forward to my sport prospect puppy coming on the scene next year. Henry is a total couch potato and I think will do great with a puppy. He's 6 right now and I'd like to bring a puppy in before he gets too much older.

I would like to get down to 3-4. I have 6 now. Have had as many as 15 including fosters. Over 10 is just too many. Up to 10 is doable for me as long the dogs are compatible. I do not travel and have never boarded my dogs. Cost is the main factor for limiting the numbers. Vet bills, food bills, and accessories get pretty pricey with a lot big dogs.

If I had plenty of money, I would probably say 8-10, but most would be sighthounds with a few others thrown it to keep it interesting.

4 is perfect for me. 5 gets to be too hectic and i feel i'm letting someone down. Right now it works because i have 2 old dogs (10 & 12) and 2 young dogs (18 months & 10 months.) The two old dogs are chill and the two pups are in training and keep each other occupied.

If i chose to get more laid back dogs i could probably keep more, but most of my dogs are fairly high energy at their peak. And of course, multiple bull breeds are always a juggling act.

i do really want a highly biddable dog for obedience though. i miss my BC sooo much. For now, my Amstaf pup with her "creative thinking" will have to tide me over. She certainly keeps it interesting!

Being as I've always had three to four, I really don't even know what it's like to have less. I really liked having only two dogs for the couple short time frames it happened, but I also really enjoy having three/four as long as they're properly spaced out in age. It helps though that I don't live alone. Some day when I live alone I might change my mind. It's hard to say. I really don't find three/four very difficult though even when I am the only one taking care of them.

I definitely would not want more than four though. Especially if they were all very demanding and high energy. I would feel like I couldn't devote the proper amount of time to everyone individually.

If my life were less busy? Two. (Schaffer's not mine, so he doesn't count. lol)
But currently, I'm gone for over fourteen hours most days for school/drama/CAS hours. I'll start incorporating Kailey in my volunteer work this coming summer, but I'm honestly struggling to find enough time for her right now. And I tend to prefer one-on-one time as opposed to huge pack outings, so I definitely couldn't handle two or more right now.
Once I'm out of school, I think three or four would be ideal, though, with their ages staggered. One retired bed warmer, one or two currently competing, and a spazz in training.

2 was perfect when it was Argon and Gambit. Right now I would be happiest just to have Gambit, but he freaks out and can not handle being an only dog, so it's Gambit and the fosters.

In the future, when I'm more stable, it would be Gambit, a second dog, and a rotation of fosters.

Since I fully intend for Gambit to live to 25 (and has anyone else noticed that the freaky ones always live forever?), its always going to be him.

I love Frodo, but oh boy if he lives to be 25 I might die before him...

For me, just one. I love one-on-one time and just me & the dog kind of bond.
In the house, no more than 2.

Right now, I am staying at my boss & his wife's house because they are on the way to FL to go on vaca til Sunday. They have 7 dogs. Actually, I am okay with it because they are all VERY chill. All are over 5 years old except the newest rescue and she is around 2 yrs old and has a lot of puppy in her but she has an amazing off switch. Ages are 2 yrs old then 5-9 yrs old. Very calm group and I love it. But definitely not for me. I have bonded with the 8 yr old BC mix and I've known him for the better part of 6 yrs. He is my favorite and he stays up my @ss when I'm here, no matter if I'm working or taking a break and now that I have to spend the night til Sunday, I'm sure he'll try to sleep on the bed with me lol.
