I know it isn't a good idea to sedate him (even with something like Ace you aren't supposed to use it without supervision)...but maybe some kind of anti-anxiety medication to help him be more comfortable? Speak with a vet, they may be able to recommend something.
Yeah, I'm seriously considering doping him with a puppy Xanax or something. Put him in a happy place, but not a sedation. If not for his own comfort (it's entirely possible he'll be perfectly fine), then for mine.

Start trying him with Rescue Remedy and see how that works.
I've heard a lot of good things about Rescue Remedy. I wish I could try working him up to it, but you can't really "work up to" a 15+ hour plane ride.

Which is the problem with medication, too. I don't think I know of any that would last that long.

You might not work up to it, but I think the effects are supposed to build up, so if you started him on it now it might keep him calmer longer when the time comes.

Everything I've researched for articles says do NOT medicate if you can possibly avoid it. The Rescue Remedy doesn't have that problem though. It's worth a shot, especially since you can try him out on it for awhile without having to worry about side effects.

Lyzelle, you may not be able to duplicate the plane setting, but you CAN ensure that Zander can handle being crated for that long before your trip. Being used to the duration should help significantly.

Yep, that's one thing I'm really going to work hard on. If he can just love the kennel, hopefully it'll take everything own a notch.

At least I have a dryer buzzer to work with. If kennel + rescue remedy can get him over the dryer buzzer at least, I know we'll be great with the plane. Lol.

I guess it's harder because when we are driving across the country, I'm in control. Of everything. His handling, his comfort, the car, everything. Flying...I'm not even going to be in control of myself. Terrible experience to look forward to.

Also, I don't know why I ever bother to clean. Two days. TWO DAYS it took them to trash my house.

Of course, I did let them bring sticks in the house.

Someone's car alarm keeps going off and it's really freaking annoying. The alarm goes off. And then it stops. And then a couple minutes later it goes off again. And then stops. And it has been repeating like this for too long!

Also it was super duper cold today. I happily embrace winter and it is one of my favorite seasons. However, it was 70 degrees out yesterday. I got to drive with my windows rolled down, I got to enjoy a bon fire last night. Today I think it topped out at 30 degrees. The heat in my car was on full blast. There were snow flurries. My dogs didn't even want to go outside. I like winter but that is too drastic of a change in less than 24 hours!!!

And one of my rats was hanging out on my shoulder and when I stood up poop fell everywhere. WHY DO YOU POOP ON ME.

A friend of mine just found out she has Lung Cancer :( Such a shock. She's so young and she has two young children and she's such a vibrant woman. My heart hurts for her but she's a fighter and I know she's not going to just roll over and let this take her without a fight. I am praying for her. I don't know what else I can do :( If you pray could you spare a prayer for her?

Praying for your friend Sparks. A close family friend of ours also has lung cancer. It is very advanced, and they are not doing treatment. She's going to die... Soon. So I know how you're feeling. This is the second person I personally know in 2 years who have been taken by cancer.

Why oh why does my aunt-in-law insist on giving me hassle as a christmas gift every year?!

This year she got things sent to me SIX WEEKS EARLY, so I opened them, found a lotion collection (a generic gift and chemical laden when I prefer natural/organic stuff, but ok, and it doesn't smell to high heaven like last year's body wash) and a *hideous* bracelet (misshapen metal hearts that are so large that one covers my entire wrist).

DH's family is militaristic about thanking people as soon as you open the gift, so when I got the lotion set, I emailed her right away (I got home late from dog class and explained that, expressed happiness in the items, etc.). No reply. >.< I got the bracelet today and don't know what to do - I NEVER talk to this woman, I've met her once, I don't have her phone number (DH has it on his phone), and I have to thank her and find something nice to day about a "gift" that is unwanted and reflects how little attention she has paid to who I am (I never wear jewelry really) or the fact that I work as a dog trainer every day and thus, perhaps, a dangly wrist ornament might not be the best gift.

I would be THRILLED if we just got a christmas card from the AIL, but no such luck. :(

Life is grim here. Too much stress, no end in sight . . . So wound I have to stay on top of keeping my shoulders and neck from binding up. I try not to think about how tight my chest feels.

It's unremitting.

Savannahs butt is STILL not right and I have no clue what to do. We go to OUR doctor in the morning and hopefully she has some ideas or tests or ANYTHING. I just had to give her ibuprofin to feel better and get some sleep. Her butt is black and blue. That is NOT normal. I'm just at a loss with what to do with her.
