I'm so glad things are gradually returning to the new normal. Vibes for continued positive progress!

You may want to talk to your teachers and ask about whether there's anything they can do to help you if you have to miss class due to gas or car trouble (I think you said your car got flooded, so that's a very real risk). I'd hope they'd work with you given the circumstances, but it's always good to ask before you need the help.

If your car got flooded you'll need to add that to your insurance claim list. Not sure whether it would be under auto or homeowner or flood (if you had flood insurance, I know not everyone does), but it can be months before flood damage actually shows on a car.

Renee, an idiot can look at my car and see the flood damage. It was completely submerged and now no longer even works. The interior was destroyed along with everything inside it. I have another car that I am driving to get around. That being said, no insurance covers my car, so I am SOL on that.

Thank you bax for the offer. :) But, I'm a very far hike away from NJ. lol. Also, for the most part I'm good. I have all the basics, the only real thing is gas and heat... but if it comes down to me needing gas by Sunday I will be able to go pick some more up(I have a lot of gas cans to fill so I should be able to get a lot) and in terms of heat... I'll probably go buy a space heater and we might even get the furnace going in the next day or so.

I hope your brother-in-law faired well through the storm and his only loss was electric!
OH I know it's not "next door"--lol, but thought if you were desperate for something, and if I could help--well, then we'd find out if we could make it work. I'm glad most things are relatively ok--the clean up, the replacement of things, --it's tough. I went through a flood as a kid--I still remember how that felt.
My brother in law is doing ok--they have water, but no electric--and gas is tough (they have our gas generator). Not easy stuff --and so many people affected. :(

Yeah, replacing everything is hard. "Your life in a dumpster." But, it helps get your house clean and makes you realize how much you really don't need. It's a very humbling experience to say the least.

I really thank you for the offer to come all the way out here to help. :) that's amazing. I think I'll be ok though, and *if* I need gas I am saving what I hqve to make a huge trip. LOL.

Alright, things are getting back to normal!

I HAVE HEAT!!!!! AND IT'S AMAZING!!! I think I like the heat better than the power... lol

Insurance guy came today, he was really nice and seemed to want to work with us to get as much as covered as possible. There was a lot that they wouldn't, but then they covered a lot that I didn't know they would. So, I guess in the end it will equal out. The property is pretty well raked up, the trees have been cut down, and the remainder of the deck has been taken down. Everything in the house is in the dumpster and the walls are opened up so they can dry out and not have mold grow in them.

I saw a few gas trucks on the highway yesterday when I went out, they had police escorts! And the few gas stations I saw had state troopers patrolling them. lol. But at least we are getting gas back on Long Island! School starts up again tomorrow, that will be interesting... hopefully the lines calm down before I run through my tank.

And a wood stove is getting put in... so next storm heat loss isn't going to be a problem.
