It has been 38 days since our trip to the U.S to breed Who to an amazing stud dog.

Ultrasound at 38 days, vet says 5 for sure but thinks there are 6 with a possiblity of 7. I saw their little heart beats, they are very active and according the to vet very healthly as well. It was cool to see them moving, but one was just a bebopping in there :)

Yay Who! Gosh that sounds like a big litter for a little JRT -- what's the normal litter size?

Continuing to send smooth-whelping vibes.

Normal litter is 4-5, but certainly not uncommon for 6-8. The most I have heard of for a jrt is 12. Normal average birth weight is 6-8 oz. small would be under 5 ozs and large would be 8+ oz. One of my girls had 3 pups once, all three were 10.8 oz (by the vet's scales), she had to have a c-section because we ended up with 2 pups stuck in the birth canal. Another vet walked by saw how big the pups were and said, 'wow!! she had 3 day olds!' lmao.
So more puppies means smaller pups for easier whelping esp for a maiden.

Yeah Mira's mum's last litter was 5...smallish for a FCR. They were porkers. IIRC they were 22oz, 2x 20oz, one 18oz, and one 16oz. The 22oz was first and had a snug fit getting through the birth canal, but was birthed naturally.

Gargantuan puppy.

Biggest naturally born puppy that I know of was Laura-Leigh's, Ember whelped out a pup (stillborn) at 15.15 oz. THAT is a huge jrt puppy, especially since Ember was only 12 inches tall.

Yeah poor Burr Burr!!!! That was the most horrific whelping I've ever been through....

Most of mine were born in the 6-8 range as well, with the odd bigger or smaller
