I haven't read the entire thread but figured I would throw in what we do in case it hasn't been mentioned.

95% of the time, the kids eat the same thing we do for dinner, although there are times I may not mix theirs up into a casserole or soup etc, but it is the same ingredients if that makes sense. (Like the meat and rice and veggie all seperate and I add a fruit to theirs)

We used to fight the food battle with Devin a lot. Now, I give her dinner, making sure there are at least 2 things I know she likes, and if she says she isn't hungry or doesn't like it, I tell her that is fine, but if you tell me you are hungry later and want a snack, this is what you are getting. We let her get up from the table if she is ready. As she gets older, we may make her sit there while we eat, but it isn't worth fighting, and it only makes her resistance worse. I often leave it sitting on the counter, or put it in the fridge if I am worried about it spoiling. She is really big into dessert, which is usually a fruit popsickle or a cookie, but she "has to do a good job on her dinner" to get it. Ever since we started really enforcing this and not worrying about her going to bed hungry, dinnertime really isnt' an issue. In fact, she is trying more foods now too because she feels she has some control. I find that she often comes back an hour later and eats most of the rest of her food. Sometimes I think she really isn't hungry yet when we eat.

It is worth a try in my opinion. Maybe he is acting this way because he feels he it is the only way he can control what he eats....remember kids at this age really want some control and will exert their independence in any way they can.

Coop on the other hand is still at an age that he will eat pretty much anything you give him! And he always eats twice as much as Devin!

I STILL make Devin us a sippy cup. I only allow water in a regular cup. But she does have a little brother who likes to knock things over and is rather rambunctious which is partly why.... :)

The thing is he gets all the control. He picks out what he eats if hes not hungry I dont force it. If he doesnt like what I cooked hes allowed to show me what he wants instead (pb&j), chicken nuggets, just cucumber, WHATEVER). Hes usually always hungry when we go to eat because he sits at his table when hes hungry (my only sign) and when he sees me getting dinnner ready he will sit the whole time Im cooking and watch me (and try to steal things as Im cooking LOL) Its just during the actual eatting process he cant sit there. Ive tried to force him (highchair) and the treat. They both end up in a monumental fit until I let him eat like he always does.

At least we have a solution for now! Got a call from the evaluator today and they are coming to the house weds!

What you said about him sitting while anticipating the food coming but being unable to sit still during the meal makes me think maybe it's the excitement or stimulation of the food? Or that he's sitting so well while he's waiting for dinner it's hard for him to continue doing so during dinner?

Good luck with the eval!

Thats one thought BUT I forgot I left this out.. When he eats in the living room the tv is usually on while they are eating. We have come to realize he is most likely Hyposensitive and not Hypersensative (even poking a hypersensitive kid can drive them insane) so I wonder if its because of the tv......

Im going to see if the evaluator can give me her opinion. Im really thinking meal time isnt busy enough I geuss you would say. Where as me cooking is very busy (between the baby, the stove and prep I run around like a chicken with my head cut off) and in the living room a movie is on.

so basically theres less excitement at meal time in the kitchen but excitement when im cooking or he eats with the tv.

Breeze--he could be mixed hypo/hyper sensitive depending on what area you are talking about--it's all so individual, which is why having someone eval and then treat/guide your input is going to be helpful! Glad to hear the eval. is happening soon!

yeah thats what i read in the checklist. They sent me a crap ton of stuff awhile ago and one was a checklist on hypo/hyper and he scored almost EVERYTHING hypo. Until you got to his clothes.

Thanks. I cant wait to get this all started finally.

it could be! maybe if you don't want the kids always eating in front of the TV try playing music at meal time, or if the weather's nice have them eat outside? I don't know if that would be enough stimulation but it might help.
