Kind of a random question but has sheltie popularity gone down recently? It seems like when I was a kid there were a lot of shelties around where I lived. We had ours and I know a few of our neighbors had them. I remember running into them fairly often while we had our three. I don't see them around anymore outside of agility. I run into papillons more now than I do shelties. Of course they are very well represented in agility.

Also, I have sheltie withdrawals lately.

Shelties are still more popular than Paps here. Though in the regular population the popularity seems to be declining.

I really do like them though and would love to have one.

I really cannot tell you the last time I saw a sheltie out and about and not at a dog event. I know there was one when I took Trey to the vet once, but jeez that was over 4 years ago.

I think there was a blue merle at the vet a year or two ago when I had Summer and Mia in.

I see papillons out a few times a month. Very weird.

I like shelties too. :)

I did see them more often at the park in Texas. I wonder if it's just area? There were three that often were at the park I took Mia and Summer too when we lived there.

I remember seeing them a lot as a kid as well. I think I've met a total of three in my adult life though, and that was working at a daycare. I don't really see them outside of doggie events though.

They were never super popular around here; I know there was a lady who used to take her two walking in the park near my high school but that was about it. Occasionally I will see one at PetSmart. I know one local woman who trained with us not competitively but just for fun that has one, I see her out walking him sometimes at a park I run in. I don't think the popularity has changed for the general public around here.

They are of course everywhere at agility events. =P

I always wonder how they're supposedly one of the most popular breeds in the AKC and yet I never see them. All the crazy agility folk?

When I was a kid, I remember several of my friends having shelties too.

and come to think of it, there's only.... 2 sheltie owners on Chaz now?

Can I count as a wannabe sheltie owner? Lol.

There may or may not be a litter planned that I would jump at if I was in the right situation.

Hmm, Brattina's Bailey, Tankstar's Blaze... I'm trying to think of more and I'm not coming up with anybody else. dogsarebetter had the two? but I don't think she posts anymore.

and then all of mine. The four running amuck in my life can make up for the lack of anybody else owning them LOL.

ETA: One of my co-workers (soon to be ex-co-worker! *sniff*) owned a sheltie when he was younger, or when his kids were younger, I forget now. I know he loved her (I think it was a girl) though and he loves it when I bring mine to work because it reminds him of the one they owned.
Another of my co-workers says somebody in their neighbourhood has two.
I hear a lot of people telling me they owned one or know somebody who owns one but I don't see them a lot myself, haha. That is pretty weird... not that I mind if their popularity DID decrease. =P

You should. And a papillon. They go well together. :p

I wish I was in the right situation now too. I know a litter coming up but it's going to be about a year too soon for me.

Well, I know Blaze is a big dog, but I think he was "supposed" to be a sheltie LOL. I could be wrong but for some reason I was thinking that. Happy was big too haha, so I never rule dogs out just because they are big. Boy, people think Pay is a big sheltie...

Now you're not playing fair! :p

The merles are really growing on me lately in general. My favorites are still the bi-blacks. But the mahogany sables like Trey and Pepper are a very close second.

Is he technically a tri merle? It almost looks like he has really muddied points.
