The clinic I work at offered me a full-time job today. They told me "everyone has nothing but good things to say about you, you've been a Godsend." I should be thrilled, I worked hard for this, I've been wanting this for over a year now. But all I can think is.... omg, I need to get out of there. Now.

I've been working there forever as a kennel assistant, and the past 2 months I have been working as a part-time vet tech. And in those 2 months I have fully realized that I DO NOT want to be a tech. I already hate doing it 2 days a week... the thought of adding on an additional 2 days sends me into a panic. But I told them I would do it, because what else do you say when something like that is sprung upon you without warning? They're excited and they think I'm excited, because I'm sure in their minds this is my ideal scenario - I stuck it out long enough with them, and now they finally have an opening for me. I didn't see this coming, honestly. In fact, I thought they'd be ending my part-time stint real soon here, now that we're hitting the quieter time of year.

I want to go back to school. I've already applied and have been accepted to start in the winter. I WISH I had it in me to stick out this job, for the money. A FT job with benefits making more than minimum wage is foreign to me. But I don't want to and wouldn't be able to if I go to school. Part of me thinks I should just go back to my pet store job and take as many hours as they will give me, but gosh the hours suck and that's a significant dip in money.

I just don't know. I came home and cried because I feel so conflicted and don't know what I'm doing.

First off (((HUGS)))

And second...Savage is having a hell of a time finding good applicants. The manager asked me to let him know if I come across anyone good, so if you really mean the part about coming back at all, let me know and I will tell him to hire you :)

I'll have to talk to the folks at my old store. I know they need more help now that a couple people have gone back to school, and every time I go in they ask me if I'm ready to come back yet lol. But I will let you know if I need to take you up on that offer :p savage would be a nicer commute but I really loved my old coworkers!

Life just shouldn't be this difficult, really!

Is there anyway you could go back to school part time and just slowly pick away at a different degree? Like take two classes that land on a day that you don't have to work?

Well, I vote that you come back to C&Ds, but I'm a little bit biased. :D

This. I work full-time, and go to school part-time. Next semester I'm taking two night classes. I'll have class Monday and Tuesday nights from 6 PM to 10 PM, and then I'll work Wednesday-Sunday. My school highly discourages this, but it's the only way I can work AND have a reasonable amount of free time lol. I'm not sure where you're going to school, but I would talk to them, explain the situation, and see if there's a way you can work everything out. Often they won't advertise flexibility, you just need to go in and talk to them about it.

I could certainly go to school and work, I just don't want this job regardless. Being in school would just make it more difficult, if I work 7am-6pm 4 days a week, I just know there is no way I would put any effort into school.
Which is the one advantage to going back to retail, there is at least more flexibility with hours.

Plus I don't have any "real" responsibilities right now so it's not imperative that I work full time. I pay for most of my things (student loans, car insurance/gas, everything for "my" pets, etc) but I still live at home so everything is manageable on a part time income. I'd probably rather take as many classes as possible so that I can get through school quicker and, hopefully, moveon with life.

To me, it sounds as though you have already made up your mind. :)

Being happy is a lot more important than having money... If you hate your job that much, it isn't worth it. Give your two weeks, tell the boss man you really appreciated the offer but don't feel like it is where you want to be right now, and move on. Everything will work out in the end.

Oh man... sucky situation. I would say if you are THAT miserable don't do it. It's totally not worth being miserable.

I know what you mean though - I'm the same way when it comes to being asked things under pressure. I did just today, this lady keeps asking me to work for her shifts or part of them because she has 3 kids and has a lot more going on than I do... so I guess she just assumes I can, and also I've always just said yes. So she asked me if I could come in tomorrow and open at 8 and stay til 10:45 because she has a doctors appt. I feel like CRAP. she saw me today, I am coughing and congested, and was looking forward to the day off and sleeping in. And I muttered a "yes I can come in" I need to just say NO lol.

Anyways I'm rambling but I understand and just wanted to give you ((hugs))
