Ok... so Josh and I spent yesterday moving our stuff from my inlaws and our storage unit over to the new place. I've been to the new place before and never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

We show up. Outside it's adorable. It's a log style home out in the middle of nowhere, but still close enough to civilization that you have a ton of restaurants, stores, etc within easy driving distance. So anyways... we pull up and the sprinklers are on. Well... we have to walk through the grass to get to the door that goes into the basement since we're renting the basement level. We sat around and waited for the automatic sprinklers to stop so that we could start moving stuff in. I ended up having to trudge through the mud in my flip flops... great.

The homeowners still have a bunch of their stuff in the basement which is fine since we're planning for this move to be for no more than 3 months while we look for a house we want. I have to figure out a way to block the dogs from some of their stuff though since they have a bunch of breakable collectibles down there... oh boy. Going to try and get some big sheets of plywood to put in front of their bookcase that has a TON of breakable antiques on it and then stack a bunch of our tubs in front of the plywood to keep it up. I need to talk to the landlord about us taking Whiskey back since Ryan has been struggling with his allergies with him over at Lauren and Ryan's place right now. Hopefully the landlord is cool with Whiskey because when I tell you more about this place you will understand why I really really want my cat right now.

Anyways... we open the door to go inside the basement (private entrance from outside)... we had an earthquake about a year ago and it shifted the door a bit. The entire thing needs to be replaced and there's about a 1-2 inch gap at the bottom of the door... so you can only imagine what has made it's way into the basement.

Cobwebs EVERYWHERE!... I'm not even downplaying when I say everywhere. You can't look in a direction without dealing with cobwebs. Some of them were hanging pretty low and we had to use a broom to move them out of the way. Well... what usually comes with cobwebs? My absolute worst nightmare. I'm extremely arachnophobic. And that's when I started seeing them.... E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E!!!! Mostly it's daddy longlegs, but there are not tens... not twenties.... there are nearly hundreds of them everywhere. I moved all my stuff into the middle of the room to keep everything away from walls and about had a mild heartattack. I sat on my bed and started crying while everyone else was moving stuff into the place. My mother inlaw kept commenting about how we have to do something about the spiders and how this place is just not able to be lived in until something is done. I started to notice them crawling across the floors... just... everywhere.

Last night Josh, my father inlaw and my brother inlaw went over there to clean. They tried to vacuum all the cobwebs and kill the spiders. I'm not sure how many they ended up killing, but I know it was a lot. My father inlaw scrubbed the entire bathroom down with vinegar water solution and by the time I got there it looked a little better.

I couldn't hardly sleep last night. I'm serious when I say that I am absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders. I kept feeling like they were crawling on me and I just stayed awake not able to think of much else. Eventually I fell asleep because I was too exhausted.

I woke up this morning to more spiders. A few on my covers on my bed... spiders on my walls... spiders on the bathroom walls when I tried to go to the bathroom. It's like they all came back. I went to go get Cricket and Joey (Bamm is still at my work until Tuesday) to take them outside to potty and screamed when I saw that there was a spider in Cricket's food bowl that was in her crate. That woke Josh up. I kept yelling for him to get the spider GET THE SPIDER!!!! Then I saw that that right next to him on his nightstand was a spider crawling on top of his hat that he had set there. I literally freaked out yelling at him to please just kill them all. He left for work and a spider crawled across my foot... SCREAMMMM.... I grabbed my clothes for work. It was only about 9am. Didn't have to be at work till 2, but I just couldn't stay there all day with these spiders. As I was getting ready to leave a GIANT spider... (looked kind of like a wolf spider and was about the size of my fist) came out from around the side of my bed and was coming straight at me. I grabbed one of Josh's boots since it was near me and threw it at the spider. It jumped and I ran to the other side of the basement. I leashed the dogs and I left.

Now I'm sitting at work waiting for my shift to start. I do NOT want to go back. I went to my mother inlaw's house for a little bit today and she made me a spray bottle filled with water with about 40 drops of peppermint oil in it. It smells pretty darn strong. Hoping that will help repel them... but honestly... that place needs to be gutted out and bombed to get those things away from there.

The only thing in the world that could have made last night worse would have been if a clown showed up at the door.... seriously...

I STILL feel like there are spiders all over me. I'm supposed to go back there and sleep tonight... *shudders* .... going to talk to the landlord tonight about the spider issue. He needs to get an exterminator out there.

As far as I know the gap under the door is going to be fixed. I think Josh mentioned something about the landlord (his friend's dad) was going to have him probably completely replace that entire door or do something about the gap.

There's also no kitchen down there so we need to get a microwave and a fridge and maybe a hot plate to cook on... no way to wash dishes unless we wash them in the bathroom sink or in the bathtub... eew. No place to even store dishes or food or anything. Josh mentioned we're going to get a cheap fridge... but... holy moly this is ridiculous. I know his friend's dad is trying to do us a favor and let us stay there because of the situation that happened with that pyscho woman that we were planning to live with, and I seriously appreciate him helping us out... but omg... can I catch a break please?

ya ive been SERIOUSLY considering that. I know my father inlaw may pitch a fit, but my mother inlaw even suggested the idea.

OMG that sounds terrible! A few ideas...

Scour the basement and find any holes or cracks they could be coming into the house through. COVER THEM ALL. Now at least there wont be new ones invading, so you can focus on getting rid of the remaining ones inside.

If you stay in the basement and don't seek refuge at your in-laws place, get a mosquito net canopy for your bed. This way, you can at least sleep in peace.

The part that wigs me out is that the spiders wouldn't be there if there in those numbers if there wasn't an ample food supply . . .
Usually yeah, but this is the time of year they start heading indoors en masse because it's cold outside and nice and cozy in our houses.

Bug bomb is a good idea. Diatomaceous earth or borax kills them after they get it on their bodies, so maybe dust it into the crawlspaces, around floor boards, etc. You can get glue traps too. Smkie dealt with this only hers were brown recluse. ugh. I think she said she put the legs of the beds in cans of soapy water or something so they couldn't get on the bed? Maybe she'll see this and clarify.

OMG :yikes: I can't even imagine!!! I see one spider and I am ready to evacuate. I have no words of wisdom but I definitely understand how horrifying that must be.

Horrifying. I would not ever be able to live there no matter if every spider on earth was eradicated.

Moral, don't do business/rent from friends anymore

Hell with a bug bomb, this gets my vote...

I concur lol

Josh doesn't get off work until really late tonight. I've been off work for a while and just hanging out at work. Ended up giving dogs baths because I'm trying to kill time, but one of my friends just invited me over for a bit so I'm going to go hang out there. I don't even see the point of me going home even after Josh gets off work. There's no way I'll be able to sleep in that place.

There is no way in hell I would stay at that place. I would pack up and go back to where I come from. No way. And take a lot of pictures to show why they wouldn't get a cent.

I would also do the bug bomb thing, then spray with tobasco (they hate hot sauce too) and dust with DE.

And put the legs of the bed in a jar and then in a second jar with soapy water.

Also... you're going to have to bleach ALL your stuff when you move, whenever it is (I strongly suggest tomorrow, personally), to kill all the eggs and stuff.

Ugh. Going to have nightmares just reading this.

Bug bomb, yeah. Definitely. Also possibly fire. Not scared of spiders, but absolutely hate bugs crawling on/in my bed.
