Does anyone else have an obsession with eating something odd? Mine is ice. I love ice. I didn't even realize it classified as PICA until I was told so by my doctor. More so when I'm pregnant but I always eat it.

I was the same when I was pregnant. OMG I loved ice. I do not like to eat ice at all normally but when I was pregnant I constantly had it. I would take a glass, fill it with crushed ice, then fill in the gaps with water to soften the ice a bit. I can't even describe how much I loved it. lol. As soon as the hormones wore off I didn't care for it again. My iron was a little low but not much so that was probably it.

My sister and I eat a ton of ice.
We used to eat tissues. (Clean ones, lol.) That stopped years ago, though.

I have low iron usually and pregnancy doesn't help the matter. I am trying to sort it out but in the mean time I love my ice too much to give it up. It's not like it's harmful. It's just a sign that I am having other issues.

Pickles and/or banana peppers. I eat them like a fiend, and not a single jar of pickles or banana peppers ever brought in this house has survived more than a day. Ever. Also root beer.

Although, fun fact, root beer was what my mom craved when she was pregnant with me. And now I'm addicted to it full-time. Soda, flavored suckers, candies, etc..

I blend it with water and let it melt. I don't chew it. I like it the consistancy of a slushie.

It's not totally "odd" but I love eating cereal every morning for breakfast. Of course not always the same kind, that would be kind of boring.

When I was anaemic after overtraining one year I craved ice so badly. My mother once came home and took my ice trays out of the freezer and I had a full-blown meltdown. I was eighteen and I was just wailing because I wasn't going to have ice after thinking about it all day at school. It was really intense (and the reason my dad finally made me go to the doctor!).

When I was a nail biter I would eat the pieces of nail I chewed off. When I heard about pica I looked into it and was intrigued. I stopped when I started my blog. I also chew on those little plastic things they use to hold paper tags onto clothing. Oh and I'll chew plastic bottle caps or the little extra plastic stuck around the rim when you remove a cap until it's unrecognizable. Not sure of the last few are pica because I don't eat it all but maybe more of a oral fixation.

Pretty much all of that. Except I still bite/chew my nails. and the skin around my nails.

I used to eat paper. As in, I would eat a whole paper cup. I would also break open chicken bones and eat the marrow.

Yeah don't do that anymore.

I eat marrow too, and apple cores...banana peels too.

As a kid we went through a brief period where we weren't always well-supplied...we definitely ate lots of non-food things (and I still hoard food in "secret" stashes around my house). It's a hard habit to break!

It's gross, Denis eats it.

I obsessively chew things, anything plastic and it's in my mouth. :-/

When I was little my family joked they didn't know if it was me or the dogs chewing up Legos.

This. And ice. Though I try not to eat so much ice because it makes me have to pee like 3 or 4 times in a row, but I still do it.

Ice - I don't munch it but I suck it then munch it when it's softer.

Be prepared to be grossed out (I find myself saying that alot on here nowadays):

Skin picked off the bottom of my foot
Scabs
Thick finger nails or large pieces of trimming intact
Spoons/forks
Ends of pens
Plastic bits
Ear rests of reading glasses

I don't eat any of it - I just chew/gnaw at it then spit it out when done.

I've heard of overwhelming urges to consume dirt, glass, metal, sofa cushion, vaseline, condoms, wood chips, sawdust, fecal matter (both animal and human), urine, switchblade parts, nails, bolts, and paper. I just count my blessings that I crave none of the above mentioned...for now.

Scabs though?? I have a thing for them. Picking at them, squeezing at their sides, prying them off then nibbling at their crunchy edges...

I haven't hurt myself before intentionally to get a scab in order to chew it - but when I have had scabs...they don't stay on very long. Bleh - I know it's pretty sick but it's my semi pica/ocd.
