OMG it's so hot for this area, I can't stand it. And I don't have AC.:( Down stairs it's not too bad, but upstairs in my den, it's awful. I can't stay on this computer much longer. I feel like I'm about to be sick. I can't wait for the rain and cooler weather. Weah, weah, weah. I bet then I'll whine about that too when the time comes.
And I know. I shouldn't complain. Some of you guys have it much hotter. But we're just not use to it here.

I could have stayed at my daughter's one more day or two. I was just there over night. She lives 1/2 block from the salt water beach in Seattle. It's always windy there and feels cooler, plus there's the water. It would have been so nice. But my son said he wanted to work on my landscaping project and needed me here. So, I came back, only to have him decide not to. :madgo:.

How is it where you are and how are you holding up? I bet a lot of you, because of your area have AC. I use to in Idaho. It's so nice. To get a heat pump here is very expensive because I don't have a ducting system. The little window kind might work, but I don't want them in my windows. Maybe cut a hole in the wall and stick it in there? Of course, it's hard to rationalize. It's not usually this hot and it won't last long. When it's just a little bit hot, this house stays pretty cool if I close the windows before it gets hot.

So is there any relief in sight in the severe drought areas? I feel for those who are suffering in some of these places, the crops, the animals. I really feel guilty now for complaining. Then there are the forest fires. OMG. So sad. Over the other side of the mountains in central Wa and east are terrible fires. It's really hot over there. And Colorado, plus I think other places, right?

Here's the forecast for Seattle and surrounding areas.

Today's Forecast

Updated Thursday at 6:35 a.m.

The hottest two-day stretch of weather over the past two years is here, and the heat will be with us until Friday night.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning through tomorrow night, as temperatures will rise 15-20 degrees above the mid-August average.

Temperatures this morning didn't drop below 70 degrees in Seattle until 5:00 am, and sunny skies from start to finish will warm us up quickly. A strong ridge of high pressure is sprawling all over the Pacific Northwest, and it -- along with a strong offshore (east) wind -- will give us one of the hottest days of the summer. Highs will reach the upper 80s north of Everett, the low 90s for Seattle, and the mid/upper 90s from Tacoma south. The average high for today is 77 degrees.

Today is the 25th consecutive day without measurable rainfall in Seattle, and the fire danger in Western Washington is very high. A Red Flag Warning is in effect through this evening, as relative humidity today will be low and winds will be gusty, especially on the western slopes of the Cascades and Olympics.

The push of marine air will begin tomorrow, but lower temperatures will be confined to the coast. Temperatures will likely be a degree or two hotter along the I-5 corridor on Friday. Plan on a high of 95 degrees in Seattle tomorrow, making it the hottest day since August 15, 2010. Temperatures may approach the 100 degree mark in Lacey, Chehalis, Kelso, and Castle Rock.

Marine air will invade all of Western Washington Friday night and Saturday morning, ending the heat wave. It won't be chilly, but it will be a dozen degrees cooler. It will be mainly sunny with daytime highs in the low 80s on Saturday. Upper-level low pressure will pass by to our south Saturday evening and night, and that likely will initiate scattered thunderstorms. Most of the storms will be over the mountains, but a few of them may impact the lowlands.

The Pacific Ocean influence will increase on Sunday, and that means temperatures will continue to decrease. Highs on Sunday will drop to the upper 70s (morning clouds, afternoon sunshine).

Next week will likely be a lot cooler than this week. Long-range computer forecast models keep the greater Seattle area in the 70s with morning clouds and afternoon sun.

Stay cool, and make it a great day --

It had been hot here last month and most of this month (and will be fairly hot again this weekend) and the house was just miserable. I didn't mind being outside in the heat as long as there was shade and/or water around, but inside the house was like a sauna. Our house made it to 89... which is pretty hot for a house. Outside was about 29-31C which I think is about 86F (roughly), which isn't quite as hot as you currently. But we've definitely been there in years past!

It's hard to stay cool for sure. Go hang out in the frozen aisle of the grocery store? Haha, sorry, I wish I had some better suggestions. I love summer and would take heat over snow and ice any day, but sometimes a lot of heat can be tough to take when there is no reprieve!

Take a cold foot bath. Sirisously.

No one has ACs in Germany (heck, most stores don't) but these last few summers...

I bought one of those footbath tubs, and put COLD water in there and then sit at my desk if I have Uni stuff to do.

I have a/c but we turned it off as we finally had a cool front. Today however it was up to 95 again but storms were forecast for the afternoon with a cold front so I left it off...yeah, it was hot:) Fans, ice water, cool showers, cold rags around the neck, etc.

Still better than the weeks of over 100 but....

88 right now here...might be even higher tomorrow...

I'm ok with it because I know it'll be nuclear winter before we know it again. But the LGD puppy isn't for sure - she is shedding like a mad woman, completely restless and unsettled, and no part of the house is cool enough for her - apart from all the heat weather-wise, she's got her on heat on too. Oy vey...

Ugh, so ready for fall/winter.

We had a few weeks there with temps 100+ every day. Often times it was 105-110 with the heat index.

It's definitely "cooled" down since then, been in the high 80's-mid 90's for a bit now, but still too humid and hot for me.

Bring on Fall. Thank God for AC. I think I'd die. My biggest pet peeve is being in a house and feeling sticky and sweaty... or waking up drenched in sweat.

We have A/C, and it is a blessing. The thermometer was at 107 today. Three-digit temps are the norm here, but August is when it's really bad. It can get up to 125 degrees in the deep canyons. I swear, I have no idea how anyone EVER settled the southwest before A/C. The early pioneers were completely nuts, LOL.

I admit it, I smiled when I saw your temps in the 90s. That's nothing over here. That's the kind of weather where people take their babies out for a walk in the stroller and enjoy the "cool". But I do understand how terrible it is if you're not used to it. Most people here act as if it's the end of the world if there's more than a 1/4-inch of snow on the ground. ;)

Bring on Fall. Thank God for AC. I think I'd die.
AMEN. :hail:

Toller...snow and ice is so much more comfortable to me. But I don't really miss that...too much difficulty with that.

Gipsy...that's a good idea. Thanks!

You guys have some hot weather too. Greenmagic, I think a storm and cold front would be very nice. lol. So, you've had over 100 for weeks and weeks? Gosh, I hope you do get a nice reprieve. It was like that in Idaho in summer...not usually for too long, but sometimes a week or so....100 or a little over. Yuk!

Stephy, it sounds like she needs a cold bath too. It must be so hard on those big, hairy dogs.

One thing about this house, is downstairs it is not bad at all... It's new construction and very well insulated. In another hour or so I'll open up the windows and let the cooler air in. It was weird last night. Even at 11:00 it was somewhere around 70 degrees F. That's unusual, as it usually cools down significantly at night. We'll probably have a repeat of that tonight, I suspect.

It is indeed important to stay hydrated and cool somehow. Heat stroke is so scary and I'm prone since I had one before.

I hope everyone manages to keep relatively comfortable in this hot weather.

Jackson'smom....Wow. That is hot! I like fall too...except I'm really not wishing for winter. It rains all the time here and it gets mighty boring. Gosh. I'm never satisfied. LOL.

Gempress...Yup...I can't believe how those early pioneers were so tough. It is interesting to think what they'd think if they could experience our ACs and all the modern conveniences. They'd be amazed.

Dober, I think we've switched weather. It's been downright pleasant here all week. The last few years it's been MISERABLE here during August. And July. And most of September.

"Bath" isn't a word that will make one popular with any Kuvasz - regardless of temperature lol. Ice cubes in her water bowl, frozen liver pastry, and walks in the dead of night seem to help xd.

Fall is pretty - it's like a second spring like Albert Camus said. The changes, the colors, the moderate temperatures. Winter here though... I like white, Moscow like winters LOL - I haven't got a car right now and don't know if I will have one by winter so it doesn't bother me about the traffic lol. But snow is so beautiful and makes everything delightfully quiet. Can't wait to tread thick snow in my sheep lined boots with Katalin... Winters here are usually bleh though - just a hell of alot of rain and alot of low minuses temperature wise.

Ugh, today was awful (a two-shower day, lol). I'll be glad when that marine front moves in.

I am soooooo glad we're nowhere near AZ any more. A lady from church said her daughter in Phoenix looked at her thermometer last week and it said 124 :yikes:, but it was officially 117.

I am in south eastern WA, about an hour away from the wildfires. It has been over 100 the last 2 days. I have window ACs and LOVE them. The dogs stay inside till 8pm then go out to play, of course they go out and potty during the day, but very quickly. Its just too warm for them.

Those wild fires are TERRIBLE. Are you seeing any smoke from them? I remember when I lived in north Idaho and there were fires, but quite a distance away...we'd get smoke and see helicopters going back and forth from the lake where they carried buckets of water to the fire. I feel so awful for those people who are losing so much and for all the wild animals. I hope it will rain soon and hard.

Me too! Lol we've been out all week enjoying the 'cool weather'. Aka: Under 100 all week. It was in the upper 80s today for our evening walk. Wonderful.

LOL. That's so funny. I prefer temps from about 65 to 72. 75, I can tolerate, but get up into 80 or over, I really get enervated. There's no energy for anything. LOL. You guys who are use to much hotter would probably freeze at 65. Of course, some of the places you live must get really cold in winter.

My daughter, on the other hand would love to live somewhere that is 85 or 90 all the time. She's one of those people who are always cold.

It hit 100 in Portland twice this month, it the last time it was 100 was... July 2009.

Few people have AC and we're certainly not used to it.
