Who is your breeder?
My person opinion, Ibizan Hounds are amazing, I will never be without one!
They are funny, happy go lucky dogs, the really love their people or person. Courtney is a very one person dog, she is obsessed with me. They are smart dogs, and even thought alot of breeders and owners don't do obedience with them, I personally think these dogs can do extremely well with obedience, agility and rally.
They can jump very high heights, so a very secure fence is extremely important. I just had an Ibizan Hound friend lose one of her very precious hounds due to the dog getting out of the fence and getting hit by a car
They are very very active as puppies, and can get up onto just about anything and everything that you do not want them too lol! So be prepared to walk into the kitchen and having your hound on the kitchen counter, all 4 feet lol!
They have extreme prey drive, they are very fast, so offleash in secure areas is a must and start training your recall from the very beginning! My girl has a really great recall, and we do allow her offleash, but only in certain areas where i know that if something were to pop up she would be easier to catch and not be at risk to traffic ect. They kill things, be very ready for this. On a weekly bases Courtney kills small game and brings it to me, typically squirrels and rabbits. Due to her high amount of prey drive she is not small dog, animal and esp cat safe, so something to possibly prepare yourself for if you have a high driven hound. I know of alot of ppl that have them with cats and small dogs and don't have a problem, but just something to be aware of.
They are a "softer" breed of dog. They do not due well with harsh training or in a household where people yell alot or that have children that scream alot.
What coat type are you getting? We are on the waiting list for our wire boy, who will hopefully be born this year !
