There is no longer poultry in every formula Welsh! Which is cool.
SWEET! I'll have to go look them back up.
I really wonder what happened then? This is a big change for the company, I'm wondering if they actually listened to what their costumers had to say?

I don't know, but our new rep is pretty awesome. I asked if I could try a small bag since they have two flavors now that Frodo can eat (he literally couldn't eat a single one of the old line) and he sent me a 25# bag of each LOL

I took some out of the bags and gave them away, it would literally take Frodo about 6 months to finish one bag that large :p

Yeah I really like Merrick now too. Basically what I remember hearing from the Rep was that they know what consumers want and they want to match the direction dog food is taking. I freaking love their canned food lol so I'm glad the kibble is good too. I have a small bag of the Lamb and rice that Juno really likes but she likes everything. :p

Good to know about Merrick. I totally didn't trust them for a while, and their QC seemed to be lacking, but good to hear they seem like they've improved.

He did that for us, too! We asked if we could get a couple small bags for the employees to try, and he sent us 25lb bags - one for every person! Awesome!

The only people at my store that got free bags were management members :( I felt so left out lol I really wanted one!

The Beef & Barley has no poultry, the Pork & Sweet potato has no poultry. And then are you actually against all poultry or just chicken.... because the Duck & Sweet potato has, well, duck... and turkey. But no chicken.

That's poopy. He was willing to give everyone, methinks your management members either got the wrong impression or were being McSelfish.

I also like Paul cause he is from PA :p

Nof against it, it just makes it harder to rotate, mine don't have a prob with chicken as a protien, that's the only issue I have.

That being said... If someone were to give me a free bag, I wouldn't turn them down lol

Well, even of it has some form of chicken in it, you can rotate as long as it also has another protein source.

I really like Before Grain :)

I've had bags of Instinct rotated constantly for years and I've never experienced a bad smell. As far as I know it's just the prairie foods that contain coconut oil. I would contact the company and demand a replacement bag of instinct!

they sent me one after i said i got a bad bag from them, OH thinks hat the hot drive in the back of the truck to my folks (a 4 hour drive) was what made it go bad but i remember it never smelling 'right' from the beginning.

the HR cordinator did also send me a hand written letter with the voucher so i kind of feel bad (tho perhaps thats their intention LOL) not giving the company another chance. Should i? if the second bag would also be bad it would be no mondy lost on my part, but i think im going to keep it int he bag this time LOL.

so... what do yoiu guys think?

Being that this is the only time this has happened, and none of your dogs experienced ill effects from it, I wouldn't switch brands if you're happy with NV. :) I do feel like Instinct is A LOT better than Prairie. My friend feeds her BC Prairie and I see stark differences between her and my BC who eats Instinct - namely that she poops 2x more and her poops are like enormous compared to his even though he's bigger than her. And Instinct only costs slightly more, but has more calories so it evens out. And my dogs do sooo well on the Rabbit and Duck formulas, which Prairie doesn't have. To help with the slightly higher cost and for a healthy addition to the diet, you can supplement with cheap raw meaty bone meals.

I would switch if it was an issue of salmonella, repetitive issues with quality control, or any of the other serious recalls that caused deaths (anything made in Diamond facilities). But NV is one of the only kibbles whose company I like, and that my dogs do well on, and I've tried them all!

yeah but the voucher is only for prairie :p, but after i finish this bag i think i will switch back to instinct, i have also noticed my dogs pooping more on prairie then instinct, but like i saiod, the free bag is only for the praire... but im going to get another formula tho, i think i'll try the lamb since she is getting beef raw & its another red meat.

i have also noticed that she has lost weight on the prairie, my fault, i was trying to guve them some variety :/

i did use the voucher but i also got a smaller bag of earthborn primitave naturals (didnt open it) in case something goes wrong with this bag of food.

i got the prairie lamb & brown rice one this time, & it smells a lot better, smells 'normal' & the dogs are scarfing it up like no bodies business LOL so far. but i think i will go to earthborn when this bag is done.

the only thing i didnt like about earthborn is that it only haad one meat meal source before a bunch of plant ingredients, should i be worried about plant protien boosters? plant protien isnt a prob nutritianally, i just want to 'get what i'm paying for' so to speak.

The only thing that concerns me about NV is their high ash content. I have to wonder how high the meat quality really even is.

From what I understand, ash is basically what is left of the food after it has been incinerated, so basically... the minerals are left.

The recommended amount of ash in a dog food is from 5% to 8%. All of the NV Instinct formulas have 12%. From everything I've seen and read, it's not high protein that is hard on the kidneys, it's where the protein is coming from and the quality of the protein. Higher ash = lesser quality from my understanding. But hopefully someone else can chime in. I'm just learning of ash content, etc.
