My mother belongs to the Red Hat club. I think it depends on the chapter but they usually meet for an activity or luncheon (or both) once or twice a month. Mom had never been bowling before the Red Hats. :) She's already planning for their Christmas gift exchange.

Never heard of them...looks lovely though and hope you have fun =)

The only clubs/societies I've had part in are the Kuvasz Club of America and Hungary (quite the language barrier there...) and the Grand Lodge of Freemasons. The latter is...erm...complicated to say the least - I can, but don't attend all of the 8 yearly meetings - kinda awkward being the ONLY woman in the whole of the place...

Their charter forbids tipping more than 5% on any meal in a restaurant.

THat's really sad EddieQ. You would think of how many were in that kind of workplace at one time would have understanding and tip even more.

My mother has considered joining, she's a tri delt, and was previously in junior league. It seems like a natural progression.

Don't sweat the tiny things, I'm an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta and I can say even if we had a policy on tipping I would tip based on service.

Yeah I'm an Alpha Phi and was thinking the same. Seems a bit silly.

I think my American grandma almost joined but for some reason didn't. A lot of her friends are red hats though and she's mentioned their outings before.

We used to have a huge group of red hats come into the restaurant I used to work at. They would take up a large group of tables for several hours but never skimped on tipping! We used to fight over who served them because of the tip.

My Mother's idea of tipping is a dollar or two. I do not want to argue with her, or make her feel bad, so I slip back and put the proper amount. Sometimes that is just easier. To her, a dollar is a big tip.
