Is anybody else getting incredibly tired of these stories?

99.9 % of the time the stores are fake, the pictures of children are just horrific, the stories fake and probably torturing family and friends that actually loved those children....

The pictures of abuse tortured animals, are almost never factual and just designed to make people feel bad cause in my opinion mass hysteria...

Even the texting and driving ones are getting a little ridiculous, there's one circulated right now about Corvette where they found the guys head in the backseat anyone see anything wrong with that?

It's a shame because it invalidates, sometimes important messages but you just gets to the point where you roll your eyes and scroll right past...

I get the ones through legitimate rescues, networking, and they do a good job of vetting. They want help to go to where it's needed. So far none of my people seem to be getting the weirders.

Yes.

I do not repost or 'share' and I usually scroll past them to be honest.

It's not that I don't care, it's that (as you said) so many of them are fake or way past old.
Most are very far away as well, there are PLENTY of things to help with right here in my own backyard ;)

I love that "far away" isn't an obstacle anymore -- like with Bax's Wilson, and have enjoyed helping with transports. Last one was a beautiful little ACD bitch, her three pups, and a fourth pup.

Yeah, I get quite a few through legit rescues and don't mind getting them.
I think it's great how the internet connects us and even makes learning of things 'in your backyard' much quicker. I don't have an issue with people helping those far from them, but it just seems to me that if we ALL did our part in our own yard there wouldn't be a far away need (at least in most areas)

And honestly, that comment wasn't directed at animal rescues wanting to adopt out. As with Wilson, there might be ONE person out of 100,000 who would be perfect for that dog..........Bax was it in this case and I'm glad they found each other. :D

Yes. Anyone who reposts those gets removed from my news feed immediately.
Mostly this. Though I usually give people a few chances. If it hits my Wall once in a while, fine. I can scroll past and go about my business.

I do have a cousin that I had to block because the ONLY things she ever shares on her FB are these images of half-dead dogs. I know she believes that she's is supporting the cause to end animal abuse, but the spamming just to get a rise out of people gets old so fast.

Now, as it's been pointed out, there is a difference with actual rescues and true stories. Trying to raise funds for a dog's medical care? Trying to find a home for a special needs animal? Fine. Heck, I can handle the graphic photos of actual rescues and true stories as long as I'm not blindsided with them on my Wall. (Even then, if you feel that strongly about sharing, why not just post a link and type a graphic image warning to go with it? Don't force the rest of us to open our FB to a picture of a emaciated, sick housepet by surprise.)

But spamming things that are simply "LOOK AT THIS TERRIBLE PICTURE I FOUND AND FEEL SAD ABOUT IT"... no. There are much more productive things that can be done for a cause.

I love the small world feeling the net gives!

I'd never have Siren without it....

I don't mind when I see a story from a trusted source that's legitimate, I just am getting tired of the blind OMG style like and sharing that's going on..

I have shared a couple legitimate ones, but always check them out first, google is your friend... And if they include horrific pictures of children I won't even if it's legit... That's someone's child... If it upsets me I can only imagine how someone would feel if they knew/ loved that child..

This.

Sharing saves lives and that's what it's about, not about trying to convince anyone you're a bleeding heart.

Sharing also serves to consolidate outrage into an effective force for change. People who abuse or pervert it hurt the real good it can achieve.

That's my issue, it's becoming like the boy who cried Wolf....

Almost like we're desensitized to it and when a legitimate story comes along we're going to ignore it assuming it's another one of these "Spam" stories

You summed it up much better than I did. :D

There is a distinct difference between "sharing" and "bleeding heart".
