Kastle ran in his first tournament on the team It was HOT (111* with heat index, 140* on the pavement by where we were parked), and he did great. I am SO PROUD! We have worked so hard and it was such a miserable, humid, disgusting day and he did his best. This was our first and last team run with Fly by Night because we are moving. I will miss this team and how far they've helped me!

Anyway, video:

There's a slow-mo section where you can see him sllliidddeeee into the box (and knock Lies crooked) and that is why he has to wear all of this!

What happens when you miscalculate your start time...

AHHHHHH I love Kastle in his skid boots! :) He's too adorable with those fuzzy ears. He's an amazing sport dog, what doesn't he do? I'm really impressed. I don't think I've seen a GSD run so fast! He has the one-jump down! I think he beat most of the BCs.

This makes me miss flyball. Wounds and all! I got the worst rope burn ever at a flyball tourny.

Nice box turn on such a big dog!

I wish I could get away with just skid boots on the back end of Steve, but I have to completely wrap his hind feet or else he rips holes in his pads. Skid boots are SO MUCH EASIER.

So far, everything I've tried with him, he's done LOL He's a jack-of-all-trades. We may not be #1 at anything, but we can do everything! Love him to bits! We have another GSD on our team that is a flat 4.0second dog. Kastle wants to beat him ;)

I had to wear gloves when he was young because he would sometimes tag my hands and not the tug...much better now - thankfully because it was hot!

Thank you thank you thank you! We worked SO HARD on his box turn from a young age to shape the right behavior. He doesn't slide at all in training but as you can see in the video, he is SUPER competitive and does in tournaments. He stares down the other team, barking his fool head off until I release him. It's like he knows that the dogs in front of him are on our team so the other dogs need to be intimidated LOL

Yeah, I like the boots so much better than wrapping! We tried wrapping but it was a pain to take it off each time and if we wrapped it too tight his feet would swell, too loose and he would burn through it. Luckily it is flat on his back hocks and just his front stop pads that he burns so terribly - areas covered by the boots!

God he's fast! I'd love to do this with Knox, but theres no clubs near me :(
It is the MOST fun sport! I LOVE LOVE it! You should start a club! :)

Steve burns holes in the main foot pad in his back feet, so I have no choice but vet wrap. It sucks, and I have to rewrap them each race because he won't leave them on. I think he actually damages his feet coming back to the tug, not at the box. He's not a slider, he's a flinger :p
