Looking like I'm gonna have to break down and purchase one of these, if not for Psyche, then for Simi. She likes the water and she WANTs to go out, but she's scared of going under, I think, so I think that if I just let her float around for a little while she'd have a lot more fun. I'm also thinking that whatever size I get for her will fit Psyche and Crash too (it is SO nice having three dogs all around the same size!) and so I could use it for either of those two if I had to.

Looking for cheap but effective, of course. Links and prices would be appreciated, too. All I know is I will NOT be buying them in person, since they want like 100$ for a life jacket that looks like it MIGHT fit them.

ETA: From a little search on Dog.com it looks like these are the cheapest: http://www.dog.com/item/outward-hound-pet-saver-lifejacket/498163/ Anyone have any experience with these?

I liked the Outward Hound and still have it, but I found it be more bulky on Jackson (the piece on the front was big, lol). Of course he's a smaller dog so it may not be a problem for your guys. The sizes seemed a bit awkward too.

I bought this one for this summer and I love it. It's so much easier to put on IMO. I got it cheaper on amazon.

Honestly, I like both of those though. I think the Ezydog allows for a bit more movement (i.e. running and stuff too) but the Outward Hound is probably a bit stronger. They are the only ones I've had experience with so I can't give much else. Of course, the Ezydog vest I have to is one of their smaller sizes so it may be different.

Looking at the Outward Hound one, the medium would fit all of my dogs (Psyche's girth is 25/26 inches, Crash 27 and Simi 26, for now). And it's 19.99$ with 10% off today, but they're temporarily oversold. Urgh. Everything else is crazy expensive, it seems.

Do you have a PetSmart nearby? IIRC PetSmart carries the Outward Hound ones. Petco has their own brand but I think it's pretty similar as far as construction goes.

Payton's is a Premier Fido Float... I got it at a discount store for like $10.

I don't think I like it after having tried to get him to swim in it - it would be find as a life-saving vest but not helpful for swimming. The back is pretty much completely open and I don't think he felt much support on his back end. I think I'm going to try the Outward Hound one instead.

I saw the Fido float the other day on sale for like $20 and it MIGHT have fit Simi, maybe, but I didn't think it would so didn't buy. I don't really like the hole step into it thing either. I like the straps under the belly. And I think that sizes for that one I would have needed a couple to fit all three dogs. I really like that the Outward Hound one will fit on all three.

Smudge has a green OH one (like the yellow pictured). Cider the old orange OH. The orange is 'harder', but fits Cider well. The green is softer, seems to have a little less floaty ability. A pet store here has ezy ones. Sadly in red only, I plan to try it on him anyhow.. I was contemplating buying a hurtta off amazon though. Dekka has an eco brand one I like, but I have skinny waisted dogs with larger ribcages and it didn't fit as well as what I'm looking for..

I'm curious about this too!

The only ones I can find in stores are the Outward Hound ones. I still need to try one on Quinn but they seem very stiff. The Ruffwear ones look really nice but I would have to buy online. I love the look of the Hurtta ones too - don't know how they fit though!

Quinn is a tough fit because she's very narrow and lanky but has a really long back. With harnesses and coats it seems like everything with the length she needs totally hangs off of her.

I highly recommend you go try the Outward Hound ones on in person. I went today and looked at the medium, which based on measurements of girths, should fit all three of my big dogs, and it's TINY. I have no idea how that would fit them! Looking like they'll need the large, but still, no big deal. But they are a LOT more expensive in stores around here than online. So I'm going to buy online.

My guys are deep chested, narrow waisted.. if you want to try on a hurtta.. apparently global pets on avenue near eglington is stocking them.. no other global apparently does. I haven't gotten there myself, but tried to today.. ended up at the gormley greenhawk instead ;)

Aw I missed you then! I worked yesterday and Monday ):

Good to know about that Global! Very interesting! I sent Cerberus designs an email earlier - hoping to make an appointment next week to try the Hurtta life jackets and cooling coats. I tried the Outward Hound jacket on her today and while it wasn't a bad fit it was still rather short on her and very stiff. I think I'll give the Hurtta stuff a shot.

Ouch, they'd need the sale. The cooling coats are $50 on amazon, $75 at that site.

Maf bought Smudge an ezy brand one today. Found it in RL and it has two chest straps instead of one solid piece, fits him well.

Took Smudge to the river in his new life jacket. Bigger pain to put on, but wow, better floating ability. I wasn't sure about it, but for him it's fantastic..and was less pricey than the hurtta at $43.
