I like the Kong Zoom Groom as well. It works better on my short coated dogs, though! I can get a lot of fur out of Rylie and Chloe with it. Rory... not so much. Apparently he prefers leaving it all over the house instead.

It looks like I'll always have a house full of fur. None of the non shedding breeds really appeal to me, although I wish they did! The only breeds I want are all shedders- Chihuahuas, Tollers, Mudis, Border Collies, Frenchies... so I'll just have to suck it up and sweep daily for the rest of my life.

Does Rory have slick, sort of silky type of hair? I could see it not working if so. All of my dogs have rougher coats, despite being long or short. It works WONDERS on Zander, but I use the cat one with longer fingers to get deep down into his coat.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! Daily or every other day in this house. The wood floors are horrible because it doesn't stay in one spot, it just floats everywhere, so I'm constantly moving furniture to find piles of fluff behind/under couches and ottomans.

I have a shark for steaming the floors, which I do about once a week. It's awesome--Zero chemicals to worry about Lucy getting into, zero prep work or clean up, and it does a pretty good job.

Once every other month or so I'll steam the carpets in the family room (the only room on the main floor with carpets.

I used to have a roomba that was awesome for those in-between vacuuming days, but it died. I now really really really want to get a "Neato" (supposedly even better than Roomba!) http://www.neatorobotics.com/ If I manage to convince hubby of my desperate need for yet another vacuum cleaner, then I'll set that up in the bedrooms upstairs to run while we're at work each day.

We just buy a new house and move periodically. Oh wait- that is what I WISH we would do.
Best idea!!! Um, you might want to check out a book I saw in the library that was about crafts with pet hair...when we had our collie I could've knitted fur blankies:D for the whole town
