I've worked with people with psych issues too and there are people that even one cup of coffee, the caffeine can put them in a very bad place. Any mood altering substance can bring out latent psych problems. And as was pointed out some people progressively fry their brains until the next toke or snort or energy drink sends them over the edge.

Gah, did you ever see anybody on 4Loco? I'd criminalize energy drinks, they pulled that stuff but it creates a tweaky drunk...what fun

This is how I feel as well!

It's like someone asking me for a fruit recommendation- if I say "go eat strawberries" and they have an allergic reaction, it's not a normal occurance. I'm not going to say "well, you MAY end up with a rash or issues breathing," since it's not a typical thing that happens.

A friend of mine in high school ended up in the hospital and almost died from eating Chick-fil-a, since their chicken is cooked in peanut oil.

I'm allergic to grapes and walnuts... and Echinacea, which is in a lot of cold preventation meds. It makes me shake.

Advil messes with my asthma. More than 1 cup of coffee in a row makes me jittery and nervous. Those 5 hour energy drinks make me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin- and they make me look sunburnt until they get out of my system!

Basically, what I'm saying, is that there are MANY "normal" things that cause weird and deadly reactions and behaviors. I know people who can live on 5 hour energy, and I can't even handle 1/2 a bottle of it!

As with ANY mood altering substance (alcohol, caffeine, weed, etc) moderation really is key. Just as you shouldn't smoke 5 joints in a day, you also shouldn't have 5 cups of coffee or 5 drinks a day!

With weed, I think the benefits outweigh the negatives. It's been proven to have many good effects on people.

Ohhh how I miss old school 4 Loko! They totally watered it down after dumb kids started dying after drinking 10... me & my friends used to get so buck playing 4 Loko Pong. ^_^

I agree with you 10000000000000% Jessie!!! Rare, freak exceptions do NOT make a rule. And if you compare the number of crazyass, violent, blacked out, dangerous drunks to the number of psychotic stoners there is no comparison. (sorry for comparing, but it's relevant.) Yes it is horrific to hear about a man mutilating a dog after smoking spice, and I don't agree with it being legal, but it's not like disturbed mother****ers don't mutilate/beat/kill dogs on a daily basis all over this country under NO influence whatsoever. It's not like people don't cannibalize other people, and do it sober, and fantasize about it all of the time. Don't search for a drug to blame when the truth is there are CRAZY people in this world, period. To push yourself to the point of insanity on any drug is insanity in and of itself and you'd be crazy without that drug to blame.

When I was in my stupid phase, I was convinced to take Ritalin. I swear to god I was seeing stuff..not out and out hallucinations but more like seeing stuff out of the corner of my eye. I was driving..I got stuck in traffic and felt like I was dying. I was so miserable and felt like I was overheating and I had a horrible sunburn type rash, ugh. I'd never had a reaction to a medication and I've certainly known people that take Ritalin that don't get like that.

They tried me on Ritalin as an adult, on a dose used on 5 year olds because I have a history of being allergic to pretty much everything (ibuprofen makes me hallucinate ).

It was freaking weird!!! It reversed my red/green color perception, which was like, I can't even describe it. Basically everything red was green and vice versa, only it totally distorted other colors as well because red and green are incorporated into so many other colors.

Apparently it made me super OCD as well. I only took two doses before getting rid of that crap. I can't even imagine how intense a "correct" dose for my weight would have been.

I used to be on Paxil and Straterra. (sp?) I loved the Straterra. It killed my appetite and kept me skinny, lol.

If you're going to compare anything, it needs to be the same criteria. Not blacked out drunks vs psychotic stoners.

Knowing people living with serious psychotic disorders and seeing people black out drunk, they are nowhere near the same thing nor comparable.

They put me on Straterra after that and it worked really well without any side effects. But then I was diagnosed celiac and my ADD vanished after changing my diet, so that was awesome.
