Ok before I start let me say it's over 110 degrees in my car since I have no AC so it's hot and after a while I can get pissy.

I went to Mcdonalds to get Yoshi's gotcha day dinner. Basically a kids meal.

This was my conversation:

McDs: What can I get you to drink with the kids meal?
Me: Water.
30 seconds later
McDs: What can I get you to drink with the kids meal?
Me: Water
30 seconds later
McDs: What can I get you to drink with the kids meal?
Me: Water.
1 minute later *I watched my clock*
McDs: I can't sell you a water with a kids meal.
Me: ...What?
McDs: With a kids meal it comes with a drink.
Me: Yes I want a water.
McDs: Mam I CANNOT SELL YOU A WATER.
Me: I don't want like a bottle of water just the normal kids meal cup with water in it.
McDs: Mam I think your child would prefer a soda or an ice tea.
Me: Mam this is for a dog. All I want is a cup of water. Or don't even give me a drink I wouldn't mind that either.
McDs: Why don't you get ice tea or a sprite?
Me: For my dog? I mean if you have to push anything in can't you just click sprite or something and give me a water?

She didn't answer right away and I heard her open the window and say to whoever was there "Give me a second I can't take your money until I'm done with this difficult customer"

About then I got annoyed and just said to I'd take a Sprite and then she asked if that was what I really wanted and I said no I wanted a water. She then refused to sell me the Sprite and told me to make up my mind because she couldn't help anyone else in line until I made up my mind.

So I ended up getting out of my car and going inside *Leaving my car at the drive through since I couldn't move it because I was boxed in by the people she refused to help* and got a manager. When I told him all I wanted was water he told me he couldn't sell me a water. So FINALLY he gave me a kids meal cup and I walked to the drink fountain and got water and went back to my car.

The lady asked if I was happy and told me to pull up.

Seriously I usually stay pretty calm but if I could have reached into the window there would have been a fight right then and there in the drive through.

Yoshi better appreciate her special meal because now I'm all gross and sweaty and annoyed -.-

Oh that would infuriate me. I have a lot of tolerance for food service people but I also realize how EASY the job is and to make it that difficult is ridiculous.

LMAO! Ma'am, is that what you REALLY want? Be honest with me.

Some people take their crappy job soooo seriously, it's just sad. I wonder how people like that, who have no common sense and cannot function outside of a script, live in this world. But then again McDonald's isn't known for it's intelligent employees... I really think they prefer dumb people who are basically human robots. It scares me that morons like that are making food for people! But then again McDonalds scares me in general. Eww those Mcnuggets made of pink laffy taffy.

Why can't children drink water? They should be drinking sugar-filled sodas? That's ridiculous.

That's ridiculous. I go to Wendy's several times a month, get a side salad and ask for tap water. They've never given me trouble. I'm always forgiving and polite with the employees. Working at a fast food restaurant is one of those crazy and hard jobs. I couldn't imagine day in and day out trying to get every single order right without confusing the orders and dealing with grumpy customers.

I have worked in a lot of food service places for quite a few weeks. Once you get a system it really isn't difficult. It can be physically demanding and there will be days that teat your patience but it really isn't that hard to do. You MUST be able to multitask though. There is no reason to not take the money from the person at the window and give them their order while taking your order... Other than to be deliberately passive aggressive.

I generally don't complain. I worked at Braums for 2 years and had to deal with people constantly asking to be served by someone else who speaks english well enough to take a 'tough' order. *I'm an adopted Asian but I've lived in America since I was 4 months old and english is my only language*

But this just seemed ridiculous to me. I've never had trouble getting water from any other fast food place.

Oh I would have been angry. There's just no excuse for that kind of ridiculousness. Just hit any button and give me a water.

I would have just left. Around here if there's a McDonald's, there's also a Burger King, Spangles, Arby's, Taco Bell, KFC, and a Wendy's all within a block or so, and they'd be more than willing to take me as a customer.

As an aside, I haven't been to McDonald's since the whole pit bull thing, and I can't say I miss it one bit. I've switched my "regular" fast food place to Long John Silvers and have become a fish and chip addict all over again (which is not even remotely healthier than McDonald's, but I go less often because I have to drive further ;)).

And, happy gotcha day Yoshi!

I had no idea MickeyD's menus were carved in stone... Have you thought about emailing this story to McD's corporate headquarters? I'm sure they'd love to hear how their personnel are treating the customers.

Then, maybe next gotcha day, you could go to Subway. I bought a roast beef sub for my dog and when I mentioned it was for my dog, they left off the bread and threw in some extra beef scraps. Even asked if I needed a cup of water for her.

Um, wow. That is ridiculous! I've never had a problem getting a water (whether it be bottled or a cup) from any fast food place.

I didn't realize it was so hard to just put water in a cup instead of soda

I kind of live in the boonies. The only restaurants we have is a Sonic and a Subway. But being a small town the Subway is always closed before I get home and I don't really trust the Sonic. I had already passed the only other town on my way home that had restaurants.

I couldn't leave since I was boxed in. And it was one of the ones that has a curb leading cars so I couldn't just drive away since they were watching me and making sure I ordered/paid before letting anyone in front of me move. So by the time I was able to drive away they had my money :/

I actually did think about Subway! I thought Mcdonalds was going to be faster... I guess I was wrong XD I did send a complaint email and I contacted a local news group that has this weird fascination with childhood obesity. Seriously I know it's an important topic to get out there but they run a story once or twice a week.

Weird. We've never had issue with getting a water with kids meals at our McDs. Maybe she was especially stupid..

Yeah, the happy meal price itself includes a drink but they have to key it in by itself to charge the correct amount. Water is free which would make the price of the happy meal incomplete. I think the issue is MOST people would freak being charged for a soda/tea when they just got a water but the drink price is already included in the price of the meal.

Unfortunately, most fast food workers are not taught actual CS skills. Geez, you shouldve seen some of the people I worked with at the kennel! Just can NOT think outside of the box.

Oh wow! Just Wow! That's absurd. I think this person was seriously brain dead. That can't be possible. I've ordered water before at these kinds of places. I think I would have left too and written an email to the headquarters. Or maybe just left and said, "Okay...you won't get my $5.00 since you won't give me water."

But you should see what troubles we've had dealing with Home Depot. That's another thread...if I can even take it, going over all the dealings. Unbelievable. There have been clerks and a manager who used the F word, called my son a piece of sh!!!...couldn't work their computers....we've stood at the customer service desk for hours at a time trying to purchase some bricks. Unbelievable! Why you ask, would we go there? Because it's close. And Lowes isn't much better and it's further. OMG! I can't wait until we're finished with this landscaping project.

Sorry to go so off your thread. But it reminded me of more lousy customer service everywhere.

Sorry you had such an issue. Next time you better bring your own water. LOL.

While taking your order, they are punching your order into the cash register. So no, they cannot cash out the customer ahead of you first, unless they cancel your order. Then they'll likely have to ask for your order all over again, and cause problems ;)

I like the "I think your kid would rather a pop". WELL THANKS FOR OFFERING MY KID POP.

When I was a kid, your choice was juice, water or milk.

except... yeah they can. I worked at Burger king for years and then at Tim Hortons for years. We did it all the time. We weren't allowed to just leave a car sitting at your window totally unattended while you take the other order at the speaker. You didn't have to cancel the other orders. They come up on the registers in order at least they did everywhere I worked and I've seen McDonalds employees take cash while taking the order at the speaker many times.

so ... yes you can and it's quite easy. this was just a lack of give a cr@p.

I worked at Tim Horton's (double drive-through, no sit downs) and another individual coffee shop/cafe, and you definitely couldn't when I worked at either of those places. If somebody was sitting at the window for too long, you had to ask them to pull out and then go outside to bring them their order.

My cousins works at a McDonald's they've had to sit there and wait for somebody to solve their problems first before serving for the same reason, too. I've sat there waiting before (not at the window, we were one of the cars stuck in the middle)

So... no, they may not have been able to.

Usually if they ask you you to pull up and park it is because your food isn't ready and they have about 30 seconds on the timer to get you away from the window. Not usually because someone at the speaker was being difficult. Most often you would have already paid before being asked to pull ahead and wait.

Depends on the computer system. Most fast food places these days can have multiple orders up. The ones that don't are very behind. Kinda of like those places that STILL don't take debit cards.

Either way, that's stupid. McD's has never been a favorite of mine. All of their stuff is either too sweet or too salty. And the sandwiches get smaller every year.
