Do you have any fire safety protocol?

Oh dear G-d, I'd be crying and hugging that firefighter to pieces. Unfortunately we live in an ancient house, if this place went up I'd have Sophie under one arm and my daughter under the other and break off the door for the cats to get out. A fire would vaporize a house this old.

Ferrets cage is right beside the back door, with a carrier under or beside the cage in case of emergency. Their harnesses, meds and food are right there as well.

Rosey is free in the house and can only be on the main level, and will run to the door if she hears it open (mind you, that may fail in a fire, but...). There is a leash right by the door, as well as her jacket (cause you try to get her out in the rain without it...)

Dogs are kept upstairs in my bedroom. Quickest/safest way would be to drop them out my window somehow - they'd be fine out there for awhile as they'd drop down into their dog yard.

All the dogs sleep in our room so worst case scenario (in a night fire) I would throw them out the window into the backyard. And that would be worst case, we live in a tri level and we'd be lucky not to break legs doing that. If we had time we have an outline of GRAB DOGS GTFO. All the leashes will soon be next to the back door, which would be the best exit since it's fenced and if we can't get leashes on the dogs they wouldn't be able to run away.

A daytime fire when neither of us are there? Mu and Murphy are cordoned in the living room and Tipper is in a kennel in the kitchen. I sincerely hope firefighters would be able to get them out since they'd be right in the main area of the house. I should really get signs...anyone know where to get them?

The city sends us one of those "in case of emergeny, please save my __ dogs, __ cats ___ other ____________" decals every year. Every year I ruin them by puttin the wrong number of ferrets down LOL I really should learn to remember how many ferrets I have :p

Lol that might be a good number to know. I've never gotten something like that from the city, I've just randomly seen the decals on people's windows.

One thing I recommend with the stickers is instead of putting them directly on the window, put it on a piece of paper and tape that to the window. That way, if you move or just want to move the decal, you don't need to get a new one, and you dont have to fight to get the old one off :p

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say.

I tape the back of the decal to a cut piece of paper, then tape the paper to the window. For easy removal.

Pig's crate is situated between the front door and a 6' tall stretch of windows. So if no one was home, she would hopefully be easy to grab. Bear is kept free, but he usually chooses to sleep in the same area as Pig.

If I'm in the house, both dogs are in the same room as me, if not at arm's length. They don't wear collars, but I have literally dozens of slip leads stashed around the house. My brother's cats would more than likely die in a fire though. Their first instinct when confronted with change is to hide. If the doors were left open they might make it out, but I kind of doubt it.

Bear has seen some fire gear before. Not a full suit/mask/tank combo, but he's seen/smelled my brother's bunker pants and jacket. Pig has never been around any of the gear. I've been wanting to bring her to my brother's firehouse, but their resident dog would not appreciate that at all.

I have no doubt that if a uniformed firefighter tried to pick Frodo up he would absolutely bite them out of fear :(

At least they wear heavy duty gloves? Heh.

We live in a huge apartment building now though, so I doubt firefighters would be going through and busting down every door for pets :(

Yah, evidently I'm imagining it different XD

The front side of the decal is the side that sticks to the window, so it's on the inside of the house stuck to the window. If you put a peice of paper to stick it to, the options would be:
A) paper is blocking the decal so people can't see it,
B) decal is backwards, or
C) both paper and decal are stuck to window

We may just be thinking of different decals, though LOL

For anyone worried on how your dog will react have you tried taking them to a fire safety thing for kids? I know in the town near me once a test or so they dio one for kids and it had fun game stuff but also demonstrations and they tell kids about all the touching the doorknob stuff.

Anyway most of the time there is a firefighter in full gear so the kids can see what it looks like incase a firefighter has to save them.

I took yoshi to one and she was way cooler with the firefighter than I thought she would be.

Yah, the thing with that is, firefighters outside of your house under normal circumstances is not the same as in your house in an emergency, when there's fear, confusion, and they're in your house :(

Good to know, 'cause Bandit freaked out, when she saw a motorcyclist remove his helmet. I think for a second, she thought he took his head off.
