Wine suggestions.

So, I didn't want to hijack Southpaw's thread more than I already did, so I figured I would bring this over here.

I have ALWAYS wanted to like wine. I love the idea of sitting down with a book and drinking some wine. Problem is that I want it to taste like grape juice :rofl1: and it definitely does not.

I'm pretty sure that the wine I have had has been dry, since mostly I've had it at Ryan's grandparents house, and I think they only drink dry wines. I think it tastes like rubbing alcohol

So if anyone can give me a suggestion for a nice, sweet wine...

For sweet try a Moscato. It's a very sweet desert wine, I can barely stand how sweet it is.

No way, wine is delicious. <3 I prefer Pinot Grigio, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc but they all tend to be a bit dryer and wine-ier.

Go make a batch of your own. Pick something fruity. They'll let you add as much fruit flavour to it as you'd like, and pre bottling you should be able to add and test sugar. I make my own as it's more economical or the amount I'd like to drink.

You could always try desert wines. I really like ice wines. The last one I had tasted like honey

Check out Italian and Spanish wines. They're typically softer. Riunite's Lambrusco is a good drinkable red for most people who don't typically like reds. Riunite's line really isn't a bad place to start. Sangria is another style of red that's soft and easy.

A white grenache is a good choice and most of the California wineries' offerings of it are good. Gallo is actually a good one to try in the white grenache. Berringer's white Zinfandel is one that's got some sweetness to it, but is still good with just about any food.

Two things I discovered recently that aren't exactly wine but really delicious...Cuban Cream, in the neighborhood of Baileys but even smoother. The other is a mix of chocolate and red wine, that or the cream over ice is dessert in a glass.

So sweet it's almost a punchline for folks who grew up in Jewish homes, Manischewitz wines are iconic. I like the elderberry...

Dark chocolate and the right red wine are incredible! I love a glass of old vine Zinfandel with dark chocolate and chevre.

Oh, and PDub, most of the German wines fall into the same kind of drinkability as the Italian and German. If you can find Keiller-Geister it is just beautiful.

The wine I drink tastes like grape juice and I <3 it. I cant stand dry wine, instant headache.

My favorite is a local wine (but its a fairly big winery so not sure how far it may sell). St. James Red Velvet. Also really like muscado.

I'm more of a dry wine fan as well, but I'd recommend a Zinfandel, or Gewürtztraminer (white wine) for the sweeter fruitier variety.

DH drinks a concord wine from Pennsylvania called Sir Walter's Red from Franklin Hill Vinyards. They do ship, and have quite a few sweet wines.

Moscato, like I recommended in the other thread. If you can find a sparkling moscato, bonus! Brachetto is the "red version" of moscato. For brands, Beviamo, Barefoot Wines, and Beringer (I don't know why they all start with B...) are good without being super expensive too.

As much as I hate to admit it because I can't stand Ed Hardy, the Ed Hardy Sangria is REALLY good if you can find it. And incredibly cheap for how good it is.

If you want to be adventurous, I would look for fruit wines and make sure it says sweet or dessert. I've had dry blueberry wine and it wasn't good, but a sweet blueberry is awesome. I've also had peach, blackberry, and the raspberry I talked about in the other thread. I don't like elderberry personally, but some people love it.

ETA: If you really want something grape juice-y, you might try the Barefoot Wines Cabernet. I've never had it myself but I have heard it supposedly tastes like Welches haha. But I believe it's a dry...

I am not a huge wine drinker, but I always get several bottles from Oliver Winery when I'm visiting my parents. Current favs, I also hate dry wines lol, are:

I like cheap wine, my favorite is Arbor Mist, black berry.

My rules are....

White is minging.
Rose is for socialising.
Red is every day wine!
The bigger the dimple in the bottom the better (not sure why, but we like this rule because its fun).
Expensive wine doesn't = nice taste.
I go for anything that's half price or reduced - bargains always = better taste lol!

And now I want a glass of wine!!!! And I only have vodka.... Oh well, when in Rome...

Mead! It's honey wine. Can't get much sweeter than that.

I'm also a fan of Rieslings.
